CFZ What Would You Have Done at WR?

I’ve seen some outlandish reasoning for why the team should have kept the 3 WR’s together. Not sure if we understand how people build rosters but there’s no such thing as paying big deals to 3 WR’s. That just an insane way to allocate your cap funds.

Yes the vaccine and heart/passion issues were thrown around for Coop, but those were more as pros and cons for which WR to keep. The decision to only pay 2 guys moving forward was obvious, they just had to decide who.

The hope is Gallup is a good WR2 at half the cost of Cooper and Lamb steps into the WR1 role and gets the big bucks.

I’m not saying that will happen but the plan wasn’t crazy. Cooper playing well has nothing to do with it, we didn’t trade him due to not being able to play well.

You can’t keep all three once they get off rookie deals and you can’t pay two number 1’s (poor roster management) so you have only two options. A) Cooper and Gallup or B) Lamb and Gallup. Team chose B and it’s not an illogical one. Lamb is younger and was drafted by them. Coop is good but you know his highs. Lamb has the upside to maybe be more so they bet on that.

I know some (most) of us are prisoners of the moment so Coop’s stock is sky high right now while Lamb’s may not be. But by stepping back and looking at the two options outlined in the previous paragraph, what would y’all have done?

I think it was completely logical to bet on Ceedee your first round pick as we know what we have in Cooper.

No idea what I would have done. I wasn’t there analyzing draft picks. I wasn’t there analyzing free agents. I wasn’t there because I’m just a fan like the rest of us. I wasn’t there at each and every OTA, Mini camp, training camp practice because I’m just a fan like the rest of us. I wasn’t there during every WR meeting. I wasn’t there during every time Dak had the Wr’s over at his house for throwing sessions. I wasn’t there in the locker room to see how the WR’s get along with everyone else. I wasn’t there because I’m just a no nothing fan like the rest of us. If you pretend to know what you would do, then you’re just pretending.

Aye you might catch me defending them more than many but I didn’t do it in that post and I won’t do it in regards to how they handled this offseason..maybe if it works but this is not how a winner is made.

I think the fact that Amari is going off so far this season is the issue.

It shouldn’t be though. They didn’t get rid of him because he’s a bad player. We know what Coop is. I just don’t think that’s a move you gauge after 2 games. People tried to do it after one. We won’t know if that was the right move until at least the season is over.

This reeks of Stephen and bailing out on the contract. A contract was agreed but then wanted to add language to it? They didn’t want to sign him IMO.

I'd firstly only let Coop go if I was being offered a first or two seconds. Then, I'd offer a deal for AJ Brown as I'd have extra picks to play with.

Nobody was trading a first for Cooper. You got a 5th because that’s what he was worth. He’s not Tyreke Hill or Davante Adams….

Yep, this was a season to see the recent draftee's , balance the CAP and keep some money available for Randy.

Just focusing on the WR'er's I'm sure Jerry (as well as the lesser reason's) also saw how much we were paying Coop and didnt really appreciate that his presence was not only there to receive, but was to garner double coverage to free up others.

Cedrick Wilson has played both games, yet only caught 2 passes for a total of 20 yards with the Dolphins.

Noah Brown has played both games, and has caught 10 passes for a total of 159 yards for a 15.9 yards/reception average with 1 TD for the Cowboys.

Looks like keeping Noah Brown while letting Cedrick Wilson go via free agency was the correct decision.

According to reports, Daddy Jones was furious with RG's pending signing in Denver and took personal control of negotiations (once Stephen failed), using the one talent his has, charm. Now if the contract Stephen subsequently put on the table containing this odious clause wouldnt RG just bypass the son and go to the organ grinder saying ....ive accepted less money to stay in Dallas, how about removing the clause.

This one's all on the Denver based agent....imho. Daddy's anger is a reaction that his release Coop and pay for Randy strategy collapsed in tatters.

That said, in week 1 with Dak Brown had 5 catches for 68 yards on 9 targets with a 13.6 yards per catch while playing 61 offensive snaps.
In week 2 with Rush Brown had 5 catches for 91 yards and 1 td on 5 targets with a 18.2 yards per catch while playing 52 offensive snaps.

CeeDee has been getting double and triple teamed. Watch the films. They don't lie. What has Wilson done in single coverage? Nothing. At least Noah Brown has taken advantage of his single coverage. Cowboys are proving they were right to let Wilson go while keeping Brown.

1. False dilemma. We did not “have” to trade or cut Amari due to his cap figure. We are sitting on over 20 mil right now.

2. If we did decide to trade him, we should have kept it quiet but by blabbing about it early we telegraphed the move and gave Cleveland all the leverage in the negotiation.

3. JJ is not being transparent IMO. The fact Coop missed two games for the reason he did pissed JJ off. His comments at the time said as much, and his comments to open TC this year listing “availability” as the key reason Coop and Collins are no longer here reinforces it.

Coop pissed JJ off and earned a ticket to Cleveland pure and simple. When JJ pays you big $$$ he expects you to put the team first. Coop didn’t and got canned, and now JJ is trying to control the narrative so he doesn’t look like a petty, vindictive, spiteful owner
