Which direction is this franchise headed?

But if he lets them pick them he’ll still meddle in locker room, over pay in contracts , etc.

The talent is one issue. The culture is quite another.
Of course. That's why I said prolly vain.

However, looking at the players we picked for D, it doesn't look as if Jerry meddled. As I stated earlier, slight possibility that he's stepped back. Maybe(Like yeah right) he finally admitted to himself that he'll only have a chance of competing for super bowls that way.

Its not a "Jerry thing". Its a NFL thing. Every team at this point in the season believes they are a contender...now when you go into the season and get down 0-4 then that's when teams start to switch how they go about their season.

I also think you are overrating the trade market for a wide receiver in his contract year.

If Deandre Hopkins got traded for a 2nd and 4th...the best receiver in the game.....
If Julio got traded for a 2nd rounder.....

What do you think Gallup is worth? At that point you have to consider if even a comp pick is higher compensation then you'd get in a trade.

Sorry, I dont subscribe to your "everyone is a contender" theories. I would run my team realistically and gauge my talent and my needs openly.

I'm a homer man....its a homer prediction I won't even lie to you......

To get here I think they need to be a top 20 defense but be able to generate sacks and turnovers....if they can do that it can be achieved.....will they do that? That I don't know...they got the turnovers last year just couldn't get off the field when they needed to.

I can see that. Unfortunately Jerry is too. Too many times does he run the team as if we are one player away and doesnt think about the future of the team. I can only attest to what I would do.

Well, there are a coupla signs.

1. We drafted big tough players. That's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off from what Jerry usually does.

2. In Golston and Diggy, it appears we have finally acquired some big nasties up front. Been missing that since Rats. Of course, this time we won't play them out of position at NT and ruin their careers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is Diggy? You think Golston is a big nasty? I see him as an undersized DE/DT flex at 269 pounds.

Well I'll say this.....I think what he's done personnel wise has been smart these past two years. I think the coaching hires like Mike Nolan was just stupid. But who knows...maybe hiring Nolan is how we end up with Dan Quinn.

I think a mistake Jerry would've made was to sign a free agent to big money like they were a player away on defense....instead, they signed a few low cost guys like Urban....drafted a few guys....they've effectively rebuilt this defense personnel wise...now its time for the moves and picks to show what they can do.

Love his focus on the defense. MM is obviously the big factor there. Firing Nolan after one season is also a new twist. Nice to see.

As far as rebuilding the defense they have a ways to go. Great start.

I mean its somewhat true. ITs not my thinking per se but the NFL does subscribe to the everyone is a contender theory. These teams that suck go out and sign 30 year old players.

I think the Cowboys run their team exactly like you said you would. They gauge their talent and needs openly. They addressed every need they had....now the question is did they address it with the right players? The jury is out. We know last year they didn't. But most of us liked the moves they made they just didn't work out.

I think he's nasty...but yeah I don't know if I'd call him big though.

It will be very interesting how much of an impact Golston, Osa, Bohanna, and Wright have on the defense this year. It would be rare to see 3rd round picks or later have an impact on a defense the first year let alone all of them.

I dont like the way Jerry runs this team. Some things I liked about the draft and some things I didnt like at all.

I think the team goes where the coach leads. Some of those previous years it looked like nobody in the organization gave a damn. Hope Mike is the exception.

I think he's basically a good man. Hopefully, he's a good coach, as well.

It's surely an acid test trying to survive with the Cowboys front office! o_O

And yet another question posed to which I can respond "I really don't know". I do not have that feeling I had in 91 when I could see them building toward something.

Are we heading in the right direction in terms of increasing our odds to become Super Bowl champions or is this team headed more towards (or in the middle of) a rebuild?
It’s a good question. By all account the off season was solid. Dak is healthy. This should be a playoff team this year. So arrow is pointing up, a little.

It will. And odds are.....those guys probably don't even get enough playing time to make a impact.....maybe Wright has the most potential to get playing time?

I'd have to guess that's about as honest a response as is humanly possible.
Reaching the stars with this FO requires a year of epic good fortune!

That is my thinking as well. JJ built that team within a span of two to three years. You could see the foundation being constructed. Which is what you have to do to have a four or five year window to make a run. This FO seems to take a step forward and two back, etc... too dammmm slow.
Jimmy did have the luxury of getting all those extra picks from the Walker trade so he could miss on some and still get better. But post 2000 teams have been able to build some SB teams so why not Dallas? They seem to be going sideways which is the worst thing you want to do. .500 team. with a .500 FO. Medicoreville.
