Oh easily. Maybe longer. Look at Favre. You really think this is his last year?Bob Sacamano;1546740 said:Brady and Peyton will be around for 6-8 more years IMO

Sounds like you are calling him a bus driver.Teague31;1546751 said:IMO Big Ben is a big fraud... so he won a sb.. big deal, so did trent dilfer.. he has yet to prove he can put a team on his back.

IMO, SF is improving because of Gore, not because of Smith. Gore is the playmaker and spark plug of that team, not Smith. His pedestrian numbers indicate he is a bus driver nothing more. That isn't to say he won't improve, he'll most likely will as will Romo, but at this stage, he is no Romo.

Comparing him to another #1 overall pick, Troy Aikman, he stacks up well. Troy's first two years yielded 155-293 for 1749 yards, 9 tds and 11 picks with a 55.7 rating. Year 2 was 226-399 for 2579, 11 td, 18 int for a 66.6 rating. Smith put up 84-165 for 875 with 1td and 11 picks, 40.8 in his first year, then 257-442 for 2890 with 16td and 16 picks, 74.8 rating.

He does, and I'm extremely high on him, but I wouldn't take him over Romo.abersonc;1546915 said:like anything in this thread proves anything.
problem is that some of the folks here follow the Texans so everyone is conditioned to totally freak when a #1 overall pick doesn't tear it up immediately.
I see Smith play weekly b/c I'm in the Raiders/9ers market -- Smith has some mad talent.

He is the leader of the Offense,,the team believes in him.. and he has shown he is clutch.. I will that over "potential" everyday! No matter how you stack them up.. Young. Matt L, and Cutler.. all have great potential to be great.. but they also have the potential to be very bad. I will stick with Romo.

This is precisely same excuse employed by deadskin fans use to elevate JC and believes is better than Romo.abersonc;1546878 said:He hasn't had the opportunity to SIT for 2 years and learn like Romo has. I don't care if Smith sat for 5 years to study or not the fact is, he is starting a QB and what he has done thus far is a fair game without excuse, just like I would not make any excuses for Romo's numbers or what he failed to do on the field. Aikman's first two years was horrible, Smith's first year was atrocious, his last year stats are not impressive no matter how you want to spin it.Comparing him to another #1 overall pick, Troy Aikman, he stacks up well.
