Laugh all you want. In his first year, Matt Ryan's Falcons won 3 games in December and got to the playoffs. Remind me again what happened to our December playoff run? Oh right, Romo was busy giving it away again like he did the year before.

You are right; he's worth a whole Romo!

do ho ho ho!

Besides, Ryan isn't worth 1/2 of a Romo.

If you get a chance...watch Ryan play as much as you can. I guarantee you will retract that statement in short order (IMO/FWIW).... ;)

Let's go ahead and declare Tony Romo the best active quarterback without an NFL playoff win. (Honorable mentions: Jay Cutler and Matt Ryan.)

Of course, that's kind of like being the prettiest girl without a prom date. But the list of quarterbacks I'd rather have under center for the 2009 season is pretty short.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger -- winners of six of the last eight Super Bowls -- form the elite group. Romo is somewhere on the second tier. I'd take Phillip Rivers, Kurt Warner and Donovan McNabb over him. And that's it, although a lot of New Yorkers would argue for Eli Manning. (UPDATE: Forgot about Drew Brees. I'm on the fence about him.)

Romo has a long way to go to live up to the lofty Cowboys quarterbacking standards set by Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. But there are about 25 teams that would be thrilled to have him.

I can only think of one.......his name is NOONE!

I love me some Moxie and he will win the SUPER BOWL in 2009/10.......if you do not believe it.....call me at B R 549 and we can discuss it!

Go Cowboys!

Giants, Ravens, Pitt, Eagles > Rams,Saints, Vikings, Bucs

do you see any defensive differences here?

I see one team made it into the playoffs, and one team didn't.

I have also seen 3 straight decembers of poor QB play.

I must have missed when the other 21 players vacated the field during those games

Brad Johnson > Tony Romo

Matt Ryan in the Rams win (last game of season): 10/21 (47%), 160 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. A whopping 49.8 QB rating.

So how did they win?

M. Turner: 208 yards rushing, 1 TD.
J. Norwood: 56 yards rushing, 2 TD.

Yay for Matt Ryan winning in December!!!!111

I don't believe Romo is twice as good as Ryan, I was just playing along.

I do think people need to wait before anointing Ryan as the next John Unitas though. He had a very nice rookie season but he was hardly the second coming.

His best games were against teams like the Lions and Chiefs and he struggled against the better defenses. He had a very good running game to rely on with Turner gaining 1699 yards ad 17 TDs rushing. Turner was more responsible for the Falcons' success than Ryan IMO and also greatly contributed to the rookie's success.

The Falcons surprised a lot of teams last year because no one expected anything from them. We'll see if they can repeat that this year and if Ryan can improve from his rookie season before I can compare him to Romo.

I would also caution people to avoid giving Ryan all the credit for the Falcons success in December & January. He threw 5 TDs and 7 INTs in that stretch with 3 pretty lame games by him out of the 5. His best game in Dec was the 12/7 one against NO which ATL lost.

Give Romo a 1700 yard RB and you would see a lot more wins in Dec/Jan. As a TEAM we barely broke 1700 yards rushing last year while Atlanta had over 2400 yards on the ground.

Just sayin zall.

I'm tempted by Matt Ryan but honestly I don't want a 34 year olf Peyton Manning or a 31 year old Brady, I'll take the 29 year old always a Cowboy Romo.

But if you twisted my arm I think Matt Ryan is going to be terrific, Aikman-like even.

In the win over the Vikings (second to last game of the season), guess who had more yards and a better QB rating -- Matt Ryan or Tavaris Jackson?

Tavaris Jackson, FTW!

Guess who fumbled while scrambling at the goal line, but was lucky enough to have his own teammate pick it up and run for a game winning touchdown?

Matt Ryan, FTW!

So, in other words, two of their three late season wins were in spite of Ryan, not because of him. Anybody who picks Ryan is clueless at this point.

I give Ryan kudos for his rookie season, but initially, I was very unimpressed with him as a prospect, so his rookie year came as quite a shock to me

he has a ways to go before I even consider him in the same discussion with Romo

Agreed. He played very well for a rookie. Will he ever be as good as Romo? There's potential there, but I wouldn't say it's likely.

I'm giving him a year till people come down to Earth on this guy

I think he shocked everyone last year which explains all the love

it doesn't hurt to have a back like Michael Turner, and a #1 receiver like Roddy White, plus they have Alex Gibbs' zone-blocking scheme to boot

Funny how Tony has assumed the role of "Barry Sanders" in this debate. Some still prefer the dazzle, sizzle and stats over less flashy but proven winners.

I prefer Romo's dazzle with a schnizzle of ball-responsibility

Romo is a winner, (27-12 as a starter) just in case you missed it.
