It's absolutely OK to be skeptical. I know that runs counter to your programming, but not all skepticism is hating.

With Tolbert, Fehoko, Brown, Vasher and Turbin (and you left out Dennis Houston, who has been receiving some praise in camp), we're looking at a third-round pick, fifth-rounder, sixth-rounder, two UDFAs and smaller-league journeyman. The odds are against them becoming successful No. 2 and 3 receivers. Doesn't mean they won't, but some of us would prefer that the team prepare better for the strong possibility that they won't.

As I pointed out in another thread, the last UDFA receiver who proved to be more than a fourth-stringer (Miles Austin) was signed by us in 2005, that's 17 years ago, and it took him a while to become more than just a special-teamer. Of the 10 receivers we've drafted since 2009, only four have turned out to be No. 2 or No. 3 receivers, and two of those were drafted in the third round and didn't necessarily contribute at a high level their first year.

We're asking a lot of this group, and expecting them to deliver is very optimistic.

I feel much better about the line because four of the starters return from last year and we used a first-round pick on the other starting spot. The expectations should be higher even if there are some questions there.

Everything in football can be broken down into probability. Drafting, hiring coaches, analytics… it’s all about playing the best hand you can and trying to skew the chances to your favor. Nothing favorable is assured, and on the flip side, sometimes even perceived bad decisions are home runs.

What is the probability the worst guy on the roster becomes the best guy? In 2016 you decided to roll the dice with Dak instead of bringing in another quarterback. And it worked better than anyone could have foreseen. Then in 2018, you cut Dez and decided to roll with a very mediocre receiver group. It turned out that mediocre would have been a complement to that group, and it crippled the team. So badly, in fact, that Jerry was forced to splurge for yet another 1st round pick-for-WR trade. In hindsight, he probably overpaid a bit for Amari, and then was forced to overpay once again in contract talks so as to not lose out on that first round investment. Dumping that contract burden was one of the highlights of this offseason.

So what is the probability there is a Dak Prescott in that receiver room? Could happen. Or, what is the probability we’ll see 2018 over again (even if for a short period until players return)? To sign an inexpensive veteran or trade for some insurance in the position can only improve your odds of success. What is the downside? Noah Brown gets fewer opportunities to show he’s still Noah Brown? What is the risk if Tolbert isn’t an instant star his rookie season as few receivers are? Some big games early on.

Sign a vet and sit the inexperienced scrubs. If they continue to practice well then increase their snaps as you go, however you need a fall back position.

Good GM's understand this and their job is to shore up the leak. You don't need a Jerry Rice, but we don't need a Turpin playing 50 snaps against the Bucs either.

Ah, I remember the 2018 preseason, when half of the folks here were like, "who's to say a WR corps of Gallup, Beasley, Tavon Austin and Hurns won't be awesome?" Well, pretty much everyone outside of here was saying that, and they were right.

Truth is even the coaches don’t know, if they do they aren’t saying so. Truth is you don’t know anything more or less than anyone else. Truth is we won’t know until game 3-4 what everyone is capable of. Brown has the best chance from what I've seen in two padded TC practices. He entered the league 6 years ago as a seventh round pick. The thing is, he was only 19. He's developed as a blocking WR but has also shown some ability as a real WR in spot time. Looks like he's leaned down a bit and has been making some plays in TC.

In the last 15 years, the Cowboys have had two UDFA WRs make an impact: Miles Austin and Cole Beasley. But who besides those two? Every year, there's some hype on an undrafted WR and almost every year they don't even make the PS.

Cedric Houston - I really don't know much about this guy other than he's an UDRFA. He's been running with ones since Washington's injury though... ???

I like T.J. Vasher's ability from what I've seen but in all honesty, he looks like a basketball player playing football. He knows how to run routes and catch, but.... Imo, Way too thin for comfort. He needs to add 15lbs in muscle.

As for Fehoko, I think he needs another year. He's kind of the Miles Austin type. It took Austin 3 years before he saw the field on a consistent basis.

The Cowboys have some promising candidates at WR to challenge for spots as legitimately good players. Here's hoping the good reports continue to be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.

I'd much prefer to see some of our young talents qualify as energetic and healthy starters than forced to consider spending excessively for old, injury-prone veterans who linger on the verge of retirement. We've spent too much time doing that in the past.

We need players that we can keep and develop for the future as our starters. That's how smart teams manage developing their players' skills to become championship-level teams. They allow their coaches to do what it takes to bring their most promising players along.

I can see if someone comes at you directly, but when they simply disagree with your take, why not calmly explain why you think you're right, rather than call them names or complain that they're "whining", "trolling", etc.?

I understand it gets on your nerves - sometimes it gets on mine too. But I find that either explaining my point of view rationally, or ignoring them makes it pass more quickly.

There's obviously a lot that goes unnoticed ( or ignored). This has been a significant issue here. It doesn't just escalate to this level.

This is how Jerry Jones and crew can keep a perennially losing franchise so profitable.

We have to suspend reality and act like low draft picks are going to replace a number 1 wr we traded away for a 5th rounder.

Other teams who have actually been in superbowls and winning them have been active in free agency and bringing in talented guys to get better. Meanwhile we are trading away some of our best talent or letting them walk and trying to replace them with guys who fell off of other teams or low round draft picks. This penny pinching formula is likely to see us with a first or second round playoff exit again
