Who does Miles Austin remind you of?

Andre Reed. Tough, precise routes, & good after the catch!!!

I like the Rice comparison myself. Miles is hard to judge in terms of Rice because he has been playing football for a short period of time and totally dedicated himself o football for a very short period of time.

The reason why I like the Rice comparison is the way he snatches the ball securely with his hands and then tries to explode upfield. He is adept at catching the ball and turning upfield rapidly just as he is skilled at running a fly route and jumping up for the ball.

He is a bit of an oddity but the players that come to mind are Rice and Tim Brown.

Anquan Boldin with more speed is an accurate discription. Ray Sherman said he's a blend of Jerry Rice and John Taylor. I was like wow!

He reminds me of Jerry Rice. I can't explain why. Maybe someone could help me with this.

But my question is: Who, if anyone, does Miles Austin remind you of?

I'm not sure who Austin reminds me of but if you asked everyone before this season that question most probably would have said Randal Williams. :p:

I'm with Ray Sherman. There aren't too many people like Miles. He has a strange combo of size, strength, and speed.

I agree. I'm not sure how to describe him.

Yeah but the way the cut, run routes, and just have that unique type of way of catching the football remind me of each other.

Glenn wasn't your everyday receiver. He had a uniqueness about him and I see some of that in Austins game.

Austin has a different style than you everyday bigtime receiver.

Fair enough. I was a big TG fan, too. His best years were always under Parcells tho.

Another attribute that makes Miles look unique is his fluidity. He looks like he's gliding on air when runs his routes and turns upfield.

He's an excellent route runner for a big WR. He's quick out of cuts and breaks.

Strange...Terry Glenn is so.....short.

It's funny because when Miles is on the field he does not look like 6'3" to me. He runs much lower than most guys that size would run.

I guess TG would be a good one but he really does not remind me of anybody. His running style is unique and so is his body position catching the ball.

I always thought that Hurd was a more polished guy and Miles looks like a guy who has worked his butt off to make him what he is. I think he is a natural athlete but not a natural WR. He worked his butt off to become a very good WR IMO, it was not natural.

Hard to think of successful WRs with a lower body build like Austin. They're usually shorter to play with that type of leverage, not 6'2"+.

Sorry, but Miles reminds me of no one but Miles Austin. For me, it's usually pretty easy to come up with a player that reminds me of one of our young, up and coming players. I just can't find anyone that does Miles, like Miles.

Miles is a big and fast WR that can change direction very quickly. He has sure hands and a knack for breaking tackles. Not to mention, but I now have two Austin jerseys (away blue & throwback). :D

Austin should have a very good career, maybe great. And young, up and coming WR's will be compared to him.

People will laugh at me, but I saw some Wes Welker in him the way we used him against Washington.

I think he's the exact opposite of a waterbug like Welker.

Those types of receivers are small and extremely quick, and use that quickness to cut across the middle from the slot. Austin isn't quick and doesn't cut very well. He's not suited for the slot.

I said people would laugh, but it was on those crossing routes. He seemed very quick w/ burst and great cutting ability that you need on that route. We haven't even used that route in a long time and I have been calling for it to beat the blitz coming. We start doing that more and we won't be blitzed all the time anymore.

You are so wrong. Austin cuts as well as any receiver in this league. If not, he wouldn't be where he is now. How many times did Austin have to cut up the field after making a stop-and-go catch, or simply breaking a tackle? Austin isn't where he is if not for being a complete WR.

Austin gets separation because he gets up to full speed very quickly. The actual cutting is pretty bad. He can't stop and change direction that well. It doesn't matter, though, because like I said, as soon as he makes his break he's moving VERY fast.

I've been paying close attention to this guy for years. I made the statement that he is our best receiver in training camp. I think I know the guy's ability pretty well. And I'm certainly his biggest supporter on the team. But his cutting isn't great by any stretch of the imagination.
