Who does Miles Austin remind you of?

I still have a strong memory of Sterling Sharpe scoring 4 TDs in a single game against a GREAT Cowboys team in the early to mid 90s... might have been Thanksgiving.

Sharpe would have been a sure fire HOFer had he not had that career ending neck injury.

Sterling Sharpe, same sort of frame. hard to bring down, same sort of speed, both with strong hands.

Andre Reed. Tough, precise routes, & good after the catch!!!

Reed was a better route runner who also had better hands. Austin is faster and stronger.

I honestly don't see an easy comparison to any receiver I recollect at the moment where he is concerned.

Tiger Woods?

It's funny because when Miles is on the field he does not look like 6'3" to me. He runs much lower than most guys that size would run.

I guess TG would be a good one but he really does not remind me of anybody. His running style is unique and so is his body position catching the ball.

I always thought that Hurd was a more polished guy and Miles looks like a guy who has worked his butt off to make him what he is. I think he is a natural athlete but not a natural WR. He worked his butt off to become a very good WR IMO, it was not natural.

That's why I he reminds me of Jerry Rice.

I think he's the exact opposite of a waterbug like Welker.

Those types of receivers are small and extremely quick, and use that quickness to cut across the middle from the slot. Austin isn't quick and doesn't cut very well. He's not suited for the slot.

I really like the TO comparisons. I never considered it (because I hate TO), but I think a good case can be made for similarities there.

Thank goodness he's a lot younger, and we'll have him for a lot longer.

Miles Austin is Mike Irvin reincarnated in Alvin Harper's body. :D

Great video. I'd call it "Bip". :laugh2:

Count me in for him reminding me of T.O. Big, strong, and explosive after the catch. Very similar IMO. I'd sure like to see his career be the same (without all the crap of course).

He is big and runs well after the catch and also has deep speed like TO but stylistically I think they are different.

Miles is quick off the line and runs with shorter, quicker strides than TO. He also catches the ball much more cleanly than TO who often looked like he was fighting the ball.

I think there are similarities but stylistically I don't see it.

I agree they are both big, fast WR with RAC ability. They just look different even though they may be doing very similar things.

I can see the Andre Reed comparison someone made but Reed didn't take people deep nearly as often as Miles does. Stylistically I can sort of see it, though.

TO is another very distinct looking player. You can put him in any uniform and put any number on him, have him run a route and you could tell it was TO. Something about his arms, they're too long for his body, or something.

But TO is probably the closest comparison I can come up with.

So I'm the only one who sees a bit of Jerry Rice in Miles Austin?

I think in terms of style TO is often more herky-jerky on his short stuff whereas Miles is much more fluid as you mentioned in an earlier post and I quite agree with that aspect of him. I really liked the way he cut up field on a pretty interesting arc in the Saint game - it was that big 3rd down 4th quarter catch that put us into Saints territory.

You could also see it on that long TD against the Falcons, the way he cut up the sideline.

There was also a rather fluid way he went about that long catch against the Eagles that gave us the lead

I like the Sterling Sharpe comparison.

He's stronger than Jerry Rice and probably doesn't have quite as good hands as Rice did.

He's not as big as T.O. but he catches it better than T.O. and has similiar RAC skill.

He's just not the physical specimen that Miles is.

No, I see it too. It is something about the way he catches the ball with his hands - reminiscent of Rice to me for some reason.

Body builds are totally different but there is something similar about their style - the way they catch the ball, maybe.

I agree, I was a huge Sterling Sharpe fan! At one time he was probably the best WR in the game.

TO. lol. seriously he was like a mentor to all those guys while he was here. He reminds me of to with a little less speed and more strength. No suprise why he reminds you of rice who did to learn from. torch is passed?
