Who uses a mac?

I've had a mac for 2 years and love it.

I went mac because I had terrible experiences with PCs. Specifically Dell.

What I paid for my Dell laptop was actually less than what I paid for my iMac with an additional warranty that covers 3 or so years.

I haven't missed my PC at all. If you have the means, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

The only selling point for Macs is Mac OS X, and it's not enough to cover for the proprietary hardware cost.

The same hardware problems you have with PCs will happen with Macs, it'll just be more expensive to replace.

I guess if you wanted to, you could buy two laptops for the price of one Mac. One of equal power/speed, plus a netbook to fill in the price difference.

OSX is not the only reason I bought a Mac. I had never really messed with OSX when I bought mine.

I bought mine because PCs had failed me for several years.

I watched a friend of mine go from having all the same problems I was having to having no problems at all. His computer just worked. Simple as that.

Personally, I don't see why one has to be "better" than the other. I have both the mac and a netbook and each has its own spot.

The people that have PCs "fail them" tend to not know anything about computers. If you don't know anything about computers, Macs can been a good route.

In, 20 or so years of owning PCs, I've never had one "fail."

I know plenty about computers and my Dell Laptop sure as hell failed me.

That's an argument against laptops - your current laptop will suffer the same fate as well.

They simply aren't designed to last, their sole purpose is to give portability, then fail a decade faster compared to desktops. Even if you never moved a laptop, you can't shove that many heat producing components in a small area and expect them to last.

I disagree in it being an argument against laptops. I think it is more an argument against Dell. There are plenty of Laptops that last far longer than my Dell did.

Looking back on it now, I probably shouldn't have let the experiences of 1 brand determine how I see all PCs. That's plain dumb no matter how you slice it.

However, I can't say that I am regretful for basing my old opinions on PCs on my experience with Dell. And it wasn't just Dell that I based it off of, I've had other negative experiences with PCs but the Dell issue put me over the edge. I have had zero problems with my mac.

Like I said, I don't see the big need for one to be superior to the other. I have both and use both regularly.

I use both, and I like the Mac better. The great thing about a Mac is that it lets you run both Windows and OSX, so you don't have to choose, on the downside you will be paying the Apple tax for generally better hardware design.

Vista wasn't as awful as people made it out to be, but Windows 7 is much improved. OSX is OSX. Don't let anyone convince you that OSX never breaks or never crashes, it's bull and don't let people convince you Windows is full of bugs and unusable, that is also bull.

That's the rub. There's no difference in hardware. As a matter of fact, you can find much more advanced cutting edge hardware on the PC. It takes a while for Apple to put the most cutting edge stuff in their machines.

Seriously, if you pay any attention to what your computer will have put into it or build it yourself, you will have absolutely no issues with a PC and you'll have a faster and cheaper system that can run more software. Plus, you can make it a Hackintosh if you really must run OSX.

Well I mean hardware design, as in the look, not the internals. The same crap goes into every computer.

But even on that, you have more and better choices if you shop around for computer cases/mice/keyboards. You can get as fancy, sleek, functional, etc as you want. Even if you don't want to build it yourself, which I would always recommend, you can find places which allow you a great deal of customization on every single component.

For instance, http://www.cyberpowerpc.com is one. It's also cheap as hell.

I purchased a Macbook Pro a year ago after being a PC user my entire computer life. The Mac is by far the best computer I've used. It's extremely user friendly and was simple to set up. If you go to the Apple site they show you the differences between a Mac and a PC so you can easily make the transition to a Mac. They show you how to perform all the tasks you did on a PC the Mac way. The Mac is a very simple computer to use and Apples customer service techs speak good clear English unlike the Indian techs I use to struggle trying to understand with PC tech support. Macs rarely if ever get viruses. I use to get viruses all the time on my PC even with virus protection. Like they say once you get a Mac you won't go back.

Read what I state, not what makes it easier for you to get bent out shape.
Real work? All work is real work, what I'm referring to, which isn't hard to understand, is people who are not using it as an aid, as in a means to communicate, as in getting 200+ emails. That is not much far afield of your claim about 'surfing the web'. Phones aid in communication, does anyone claim to be a phone expert? That the product of their work is a product of a phone?

You're not talking facts, you're throwing out statements for something to say. Example: Zero Accountants? Do you know why there does and has existed accounting software for the Mac? Because accountants use it.

Do you know why quantitative analyst software exists for Mac? Because people use it.

When software doesn't sell, it dies. Zero users would have killed them long ago.

The whole consensus equals worth or value is a disingenuous aspect to make a point from anyway. That's my fault for even entertaining it; everyone knows the majority uses Windows. This does nothing to the fact that you are wrong in your assertion of what a Mac will do. Your first claim was all it does is iTunes, surf and play with photos. I gave a full accounting of why that is wrong. You are wrong about virus too and overall level of usage.

By your way of reasoning, the fact that there are more Honda Civics on the road than BMW's can only lead one to the knowledge that the Civic is a superior car. Not.

I'm not talking bookkeeping, I said a real full fledged accountant. (you know, CPA or corporate / tax / law accountant) Come to New York and find a quantitative analyst that works for a bank that isn't just investing his own money that uses a Mac for his number crunching.

Being an Apple zealot doesn't make what you spew true, it makes you look like a sheep in Steve Job's pasture.

Everything fails now and again. Including Macs, cars, PCs, $1M super computers, human heart, and of course Apple zealot logic. :muttley:

My wife's Dell laptop is five years old. The primary demo laptop I have (also a Dell) at work is six years old. If you had a laptop that failed soon after you purchased it, you just got a lemon. It's not normal for laptops (any brand) to fail soon after purchasing them, but it does happen.

Don't buy a $400 laptop if you want better hardware. Thats where people confuse the two. Apple does have better hardware than a $400 laptop, but if you buy a $2k laptop, the hardware won't be any more high quality.

What you're saying is something you learned from Apple zealot F.U.D. (Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt) F.U.D. is a tool to used to make some company's product look better than it's competition when it isn't true at all.

You know who makes the best tablet laptop? It sure as hell isn't Apple. It's Fujitsu. I'm willing to bet there is an Apple guy out there that would be willing to tell you that the Apple tablet is the best and has the best quality hardware in it.

I have laptops that I purchased from Dell that are 5 or 6 years old that are still working without any problems other than user error but I buy the corporate level machines with a full three year warranty. If anything goes wrong in those 3 years Dell sends someone out to fix it.

Exactly. If you buy a piece of crap, you're likely to get a piece of crap.

Don't buy a Suzuki SX4 and complain that it isn't as good as a 5 series BMW.
