The list is long of backups winning some games. Tebow anyone?

Remember when Flynn was the next best thing? Got a big contract, and NOPE, he wasn't.
They were starters when they started.

Do dak wasnt the starter in 2016, eh?

I think this is the year Cooper Rush will cash in and get a fat contract during the offseason. He’s done enough and there will be a team who will offer him 15-20 million a year to see if he can put them over the hump. He’s beyond earned it and I think congratulations are in order.

So, which team signs him ladies and gents?
You’re dreaming…..unless you think 4-5 million as a backup is a fat contract. No one is going to even give him an opportunity to compete. Some team without a young QB they are developing or in a tight cap situation or has struggled with bad backup play will offer him a modest backup contract.

He'll probably be in a range half that. Gardner Minshew was technically signed as the highest paid backup this offseason at 12.5 million and ended up starting, but hasn't performed well.

You really see Rush resetting the backup QB market? He may price himself out of Dallas, but can't see a team handing him 20 million to be their backup QB or stop gap starter.

With all that said, the Giants or Raiders seem like possible landing spots.
Cooper Rush will be on precisely ZERO team’s Starting QB Radar. Jerry might bump him to $5-6M-per on another 2-year… If he wants more - thanks-see ya.

First time we’ve missed the playoff since 2020. It’s Cooper Rush is so good. We should’ve made it. He’s not. Just wait till Sunday he’ll be back to his getting destroyed ways.
Yes, if he was Dak good, we should have, OR had a better showing.

I blame the sports shows for this, media, etc etc, they get out buzz words, they devalue meanings of words and just wreck havoc on definitions to make things easier for more viewers. THis only works so long, than things collapse and everyone looks around, how did it go wrong? what went wrong? well people, you devalue meanings and structures.

CR is a back up and possibly before all this garbage, he wouldnt be a back up on some teams. Thats not a knock on him, but colleges changing how they play ball and the NFL avoiding anything that doesnt have them grabbing at a dollar.

The other poster who said he has the mental and not the arm, is exactly right, or not very off from the truth. Some guys are just lucky. some guys surivive off talent until time runs out. We all know some of those qbs. It just happens.

This why i say the NFL has to start looking at depth, at the speed, weight, rate we are playing these guys they are NOT going to last a full season.

Is this sarcasm? He’s clearly better than Dak but weeny arm ain’t cashing in any big contracts.

They should definitely let you increase the roster size after maybe midseason. You’re right there’s just not enough superstars to go around at some point like we did you just have to to play the players you have and hope that their football players and the scheme fits the style of play.

The quality of QB2 and QB3 around the league is pretty poor. Rush is way better than some of the backups in the league and won't have any problem signing with some team.
Let's go further. The quality of QB1's in the league is poor. There aren't 32 legit starters in the league. So, you could make the argument that currently Rush is one of the top 25? QB's on the planet. You have multiple teams that will be going into the off-season with no viable QB on their roster. His value will never be higher.

Carson Wentz has the most extensive resume of any back up QB in the league. 100 starts, a winning record as a starter, he’s proven he can adapt to new systems, has won starts for four different teams. He does not have a “noodle arm”. Of course, he’s the QB2 in Kansas City. He is not paid as much as your suggesting Rush will sign for. He’s less than a year older than Rush and he’s a free agent come March 2025, too. Rush will be paid the minimum allowed under the terms of the CBA with the Cowboys or be out of the league. Wentz will sign for the minimum, too, likely with the Chiefs. Teams are not going to pay big for a back up quarterback they know will never develop into a starter.
Trey Lance is making $5M as QB3 behind Rush. The post was about Jerry throwing Rush a bone, if you don't believe Jerry would do that, cool.

i think it would be more fun and give more people a chance to "play for their dreams" and "make a good pay check"

its win win.

Football players win football games not Primadonna’s. I always said keep your high priced names. Give me the little guy that wants to make a name for himself.

Dont know what you mean. Sorry.
Matt Cassell is almost a clone of Rush. Both have great heads for the game w/ really bad arms. KC traded away a 2nd for Cassell and paid him because he won games for NE(10-6) and then quickly found out that he was not a starter.

If MINNY pays Rush, they will quickly find out that he's not a starter. Since Rush is 30, it's most likely only the fans talking about it, I highly doubt any of the MINNY FO people are even discussing it. Plus, Minny just drafted JJ McCarthy. Rush to Minny doesn't make sense, aside from possibly as a backup. And MINNY has Nick Mullens, and didn't they sign Daniel Jones?
