Why are people blaming Kellen Moore for the deep throw on 3rd?

should have been a run play. Jaguars got to keep a timeout and used it to force the game to OT.

Eagles did the same exact thing against the Bears on 3rd and 7. You just didn't hear about it because they completed the pass. I'm sure everybody thinks it was a great call.

If you can't trust your $40,000,000.00 QB, who can you trust?

You laugh but they need to drain the clock. An incomplete pass stops it. It's basic Football101. Make the Jags use their timeouts. It was just silly.

You run the ball, if it was 3rd and under 5, maybe a pass to end the game, but at 3rd and 10, you run, make them burn their timeout and punt them deep..it’s not even hindsight, everyone watching knew they should have ran the ball..it was beyond stupid and yet again another reason why this team will never win with this coach

Disagree, with under 3rd and 5 you actually have a chance of getting the 1st with a run. I'm not running the ball with maybe a 2% chance of getting a first down. You play to win and I feel like running on 3rd and 10 is a give up. They could have still gotten in FG range.

They threw a low percentage bomb completion to convert? Or was it a high percentage pass play?

It's the nature of this forum. This year's scapegoat has been pre determined a while back.
Film of quarterback decision making in real time is not to be considered.

It's Kellen's fault.
All the complainers have a pre-defined scapegoat …

Running the ball would have forced the Jaguars to burn their 3rd timeout. Which means on that last pass in regulation they would have had no way to stop the clock and kick the 48 yard field goal that sent the game to overtime.

Hindsight is always 20-20 but calling a deep pass there is beyond dumb. Even a short pass with a higher chance of being completed would have made more sense. There is a time and a place to be aggressive and today the coaches had their heads up their collective behinds.

You can't say with certainty the Jags wouldn't have gotten a FG anyway. I CAN say with certainty we win the game with a first down. You don't just give the ball back to them without trying to get the first. That's for losers.

You must be new here. CowboysZone calls that “playing not to lose.”

Yup, great post.
I been harping on it for a while.

QB decision making.
Stop/pause the tape.
Look at all options of open and covered
pass catchers.

Then decide if the pass that was thrown was the right decision.

Not the route run by the receiver.
Not the design of the route by the OC.
Not the pre determined play call especially if that receiver was covered.

Was the decision to throw that particular pass the right decision?
Proper QB decision making is a vital part of a QB's ability to lead his team to success.
There have been many QB decision making failures made this year.
Or you can just go along with the rest of the this year's scapegoat crowd.
And say It's Kellen's fault.
KM won’t be the last OC Dak gets run off.

Dak has neither the skill nor ability to throw deep. Any deep pass by Deek is gonna be another INT.
How did we get stuck with this $40 mil Dreck?

On the contrary Dak is one of the best deep ball QB's in the NFL.

How was the D today big dog?

You are right but a deep ball to Brown was not smart. Something shorter to Lamb, Schultz, Gallup, Pollard, or anybody but option four or five would have made more sense.

McCarthy preaches analytics yet with the game on the line he goes for the lowest percentage play possible in that situation. Even taking a sack would have taken more time off the clock and made the Jaguars burn their third timeout.

The Jaguars were still on their side of the field on 3rd down with 12 seconds to play but having that timeout let them throw over the middle. It cost Dallas the game.

I don't fault throwing on third down. We convert the first down, the game is over. But the deep pass?
I do agree with @NoLuv4Jerry that we should have given Dak some options that involved either taking the easy throw or taking the sack to let the clock keep running and making the Jags burn their timeouts.
Smart coaches plan for such scenarios.
Yeah, a deep pass to a number 3 receiver was not the best idea…..
