Why in the heck would we spend a 4th on a player that won't even make the team?

Not fair? It was your criteria, not mine.

What proof do you have that Folk (or any other rookie kicker) would be more rattled than a veteran? Just a gut feeling? Great evidence.

Pressure and performing under pressure breeds confidence.

I will take Gramatica unless Folk makes a couple of game winners in preseason.

That said, if he performs I keep 2 and then let Gramatica walk once Folk proves it in the reg season.

Show me, with a link, any rating service that gave the Cowboys a D or an F.

Just one.

Here's one...

Hall of Fame scribe Rick "Goose" Gosselin, who has forgotten more about the draft than I'll ever know, wasn't nearly as impressed as I was with the Cowboys' work this weekend.

Goose gave them a D.

Here's Goose's take:

The Cowboys picked up an extra first-rounder in 2008, but that didn't help them in this draft. Marten and Free are blue-collar blockers and those were two of the better picks. Stanback is coming off a foot injury.

I knew this one was coming.

One is "many" to you?

i hate to say it but he went by your criteria to list one and only one cause that's all that you asked for.

i feel dirty saying this and i'm sure 5 more years got added to my hell sentence when i die for this - but he did what he was asked in this instance.

but like you say - he does say "many" did this - rating the cowboys draft a D or F.

if "many" did it - how many is that really and what was their "average" score?

Yeah he did and I remembered Gosselin's rating after I challenged him.

He still said "many."

That is a total fabrication.

I still don't see the evidence. Just more gut feelings.

It all seems a bit fishy to me. I think they are setting him up for PUP or injured reserve.

With shin splints he could easily practice punts receiving (he has not been from what we have heard) and I would think, based on the reports of him running he could do 7-7 and do pass receiving drills.

If he makes it on the 53 I think that we won't have 3 QB's on the 53 to make a space for him.

You don't think there is evidence for performing under pressure breeding confidence?

Ok;)

Stanback will not make the team unless he can show something. It's that simple.

4th rounder or not, unless he can get on the field, the coaching staff WILL cut him since they can't evaluate him.

Right.....

Most teams, draft injured players who they know full well may not be able to go that season and expect a huge contributions.

I said, and I repeat, I want to see evidence that a rookie feels so much more pressure than a veteran.

So far...nothing.

For all we know the rookie could be yet another "triumph of an uncluttered mind."

He'll make the team.

Premature evaluation strikes again.
I think he was a worse pick than Green in the 4th last year.

I could see him not making the team, and in fact have predicted it since we reached on the pick. It was one of the dumbier picks the Cowboys have made in recent years.

That is why it was a stupid pick, number he was injured, number two he is a project, number 3 a reach. Bad, bad pick...

Stanback was an extremely questionable selection to begin with. Early 4th is way too soon to be targeting projects.

What about Matt Jones as a 1st rounder?

That has nothing to do with whether or not Stanback was a good pick. Who really cares, he wasn't picked by the Cowboys.

As an aside, that was a bad pick too...

But he was a consensus first round pick, even with the position change. That's no "project."

He was deemed a reach because many services rated him a QB. Half the "pundits" still had him at QB in their evaluations even though many teams had him out for a look as a WR.

Day 2 is where you draft projects. Some of you act like 4th round picks are sure fire starters.

Lemme ask, is James Marten, a guy who likely will end up inactive for many if not all the games this year, a bad pick too? He's a project as well. He clearly isn't ready to be a starting RT. How about Doug Free? No way he sees a sniff at LT this year.

I guess it comes down to whether or not you trust Ireland's judgement as a scout, because we don't have a whole lot to go by.

Exactly.

Hell, Marten and Free might not even be ready next year.

They aren't changing positions, they weren't drafted injured, and they were slotted to be picked where they were.

You know just because the Cowboys drafted him, doesn't mean you have to like or agree with the pick. Anyone that thinks that was the correct pick at that spot is delusional.
