Will Cooper Rush be cut?

He wasn’t given clearance until they gave him the non-exclusive franchise tag. He requested a trade prior to that. No one was interested trading for him once he was tagged because they would have not only had to make him the highest paid QB but also cough up 2 first round picks. I commented that no one was interested in Cooper Rush when he was released. How was Lamar Jackson’s situation similar to Cooper Rush? You made a comparison.
It's the same deal; no one wants to help a player merely drive up the price for their own team.
To do that would be cutting everyone's throat but the player.
These teams are smarter than that.

That’s how ill informed some fans are. Purdy was coming off elbow surgery but some fans are trying to convince themselves that Lance was traded because of injuries and that his play had nothing to do with it. The best offer SF got for Lance was a 4th round pick.
Lance broke his leg.

Multiple surgeries to fix it.

He broke his throwing hand the season before.

He was over both injures and was traded because the 49ers saw no hope in him. He was 3rd on their depth chart.

That was in September 2022. He was over the injury and completed against Purdy and Darnold in camp last year. He ended up the third QB and was traded. He wasn’t very good prior to the injuries.

He took the QB1 job from JimmyG in camp.

That JimmyG.

Good enough,

He never completed against Jimmy G. The 49ers made the decision prior the 2022 season that Lance would be the starter. SF tried trading Jimmy G during the offseason but decided to hang on to him.
They were both in camp that Summer.

How is that not competing?

JimmyG > Dak

Be glad we got the kid.

It only cost us a 4th.

Doubt it. One, he's under contract, his salary is a bit over $2m and his dead cap is about $600,000, so you'd not be saving much. Two, he's got experience with Dallas' offense, has won games for them. Lance has done zero with the Cowboys.

If anything, I'd say if Lance plays abysmally then he'd be the one cut....

Why would you cut your best QB?
lol good one !
I think this has to wait and see how lance does in PS first.
Rush is a proven bkup who did great, so lance has to show a lot in PS games to move ahead of him.

I doubt jerry would cut rush untill his contract is up at end of this season.

For the same idiotic reasoning that they benched him when Dak came back from injury;
These Cowboys don't know much about real leadership.
I remember they made rush play phil in phil when they were rocking, then the next game dak was miraculously ready to play lol.
That was the only game rush lost, and I think phil went to SB that season?

And if McCarthy hadn't missed on contesting what should have been a first down, they might have won the game.
But I think the officials were too much.

Serious question: With Trey Lance and Dak Prescott, will the Cowboys cut/release Cooper Rush as the roster tightens?
They may do it as a favor to him to allow him to find another team who needs a stable backup rather than keeping him as a third string emergency option.
They aren't about to just hand the QB2 job to Trey Lance. He has to earn it. So expect completion in training camp and the preseason games. Cooper Rush has something to say about who our QB2 is this coming season through his performance on the field.

Cooper Rush has proven his value. Trance has proven nothing.

I agree. We need him to get the #1 draft pick.
He may never start with his brief stay here, but if Lance doesn't have a NTC, if he shows well in pre season.... maybe we get a return on investment for the first time ever.
Can't say that he has not been working hard, Lance does not want to leave.
