What they really need to do is get the backs more involved in the passing game, especially early on.

I feel like Dak has some of his best games when you ease him into the game with routine throws, which I didn’t feel we did nearly enough.

Quality over quantity. Less carries, buy more yards....you get that through proper play calling.
I would argue that you get "that" through better blocking, and also better passing. The more the defense fears your passing game, the easier it is to run the ball. A fresh young fast RB wouldn't hurt either.

That's no argument, it's just a different way of saying what I said. Good play callers use their player's strength and everyone knows that you set up the run with the pass and vice versa.

Magic wand. No doubt Mike has one of those. Anyways, your replies and the others here tell me:
Running the ball more is no real answer and most everyone knows it.

I didn't say that. Running the ball effectively is the key. Moore had no rhyme or reason for his run game.

Another day, more McCarthy 'insights' as he throws darts this way and that.

Previously he was saying, "Run the Damn Ball." On Thursday Mike had these comments,

"So much of this game is made about how many times you run it or pass it, but it’s really: how do you get the ball distributed to your perimeter players?”
“You just look at where those touches go,” the coach went on. “Do some of those touches go to receivers? Tight ends? The new backs will definitely absorb some of those opportunities. Maybe Tony’s will go up.”
“Ball distribution has always been my focal point,” McCarthy explained, “because when you have 70 plays in a game, if you’re not getting the ball distributed 75 percent of those plays, then you’re playing uphill to the defense.”

The Cowboys will be obliged to improve the performances of the offensive line before the running attack becomes the force that they once were.

Within the accomplishment of that major task, chances of morphing this offense into what it was in 2016 will hinge on several effective decisions.

I feel strongly that the addition of a competent left guard in the upcoming draft could have a meaningful effect on the performance that's required.

Big Mike has declared, "I want to run the damn ball!" Many here cheer that message on. Pound the rock, baby!

Hmmm.....What would more running look like?

We were pass happy under Kellen Moore, right? Well...quite the opposite, in fact. In 2022 Dallas had the sixth most carries in the NFL. 531 rushing plays.

Interesting to look at the five teams who ran the ball more than Dallas:
-Falcons, Bears, Eagles, Commanders and Browns. Of those only the Eagles had a winning record.
-The Eagles had more carries than Dallas, but 30% of all Eagles carries were by QB Jalen Hurts. A lot of that on scrambles.

When you adjust for QB scramble runs...Kellen Moore called more run plays than even the Eagles.

It could be argued that the Falcons, Bears, Commanders and Browns only ran so much because they lacked a skilled passer. It sure didn't work out for them

So I ask you: Do you really think Big Mike is going to increase the reliance on the run game? And for the run-heavy fans here...walk me through it. WHY!?
Because I'm sure he's looked over daks career and saw his best yr was his rookie yr. When they ran it to set up the pass. Imo you go back to that style and with this defense they got a chance at 6.

And idk if you noticed when Moore actually ran the ball consistently in games Dallas was in control. Them stats ur talking about don't give much context. Dallas could have a drive with 9 carries in a 16 play drive. Then go the next 2 drives with 3 carries in both drives combined. That's 12 carries probably 35-40% of the games carries. So while yes they ran the ball, but it was always bunched up into condensed parts of the game.

Why are you cherry picking his words?

Just look at Zeke’s opportunities,” McCarthy offered. “Where do those touches go? So much of this game is made about how many times you run it or pass it, but it’s really: how do you get the ball distributed to your perimeter players?

“So you just look at where those touches go,” the coach went on. “Do some of those touches go to receivers? Tight ends? The new backs will definitely absorb some of those opportunities. Maybe Tony’s will go up.”

All he's talking about is how will the team divide up the touches Elliot had now that he's not there.

I keep hearing this from some.

-Is Red Zone situational football? We were #1 rated.
-Is third down situational? We were 5th in the league in conversions

Moore's offenses were top at top or near top in yardage and scoring every except when Dak lost for season. Sorry if I giggle out loud at this "Moore didn't know situational football"
Moore is just the latest scapegoat for Dak. You can write it down it will be Big Mike this year, or someone else.

Many of Hurts runs were designed runs. They arguably had the best OL in the NFL. If that was the case he should not have been scrambling to begin with.
If he was, that means he is not as good of a QB to see the field as many think, as in happy feet. His WR's and TE bailed him out then? And it was not like they played 17 games against very tough defenses.
So that Dallas ran more than Philly does not fly.

Also take into account the quality of the running plays. When you have an inept OC that runs the ball into a stacked box over and over even when it does not work, is not good.
So what MM really meant was by running the ball more, was running the ball more efficiently.

I think the implied goal is ‘more effective running’.

Coach will get the players he wants, he has his career invested fully now with this offenses production.
His influence will be heavy in the war room this draft.
I think you're right....I just hope MM can spot talent better than Marinelli.

The only additional running taking place in Dallas this season will be Fat Mike running to the all you can eat buffet.
