I guess this isn't going down tonight. I was really hoping it would. I'm still kinda in shock from this past 24 hours. I was online during the developments with Moore and then I saw that we finally signed him. I was so excited. Then I woke up this morning and check online and see he decided to stay retired. It was like a dream turned nightmare all in the span of a few hours. I was hoping we would sign Waters tonight in the same fashion we did last night.

Its crazy how everyone keeps on repeating the "he's a 36 year old guard" in their complaints but fail to mention what kind of player he has been..we need help on the offensive line, and we're attempting to address it. Why is everyone so upset??

Waters is much better than the Livings & Bernadeau (the injury squad)...

Last year Waters played, he was paving the way for the Pats most recent SB during a Pro-bowl season...

He's started 165 games and played in like ~180 - only giving up like 28 sacks...

Big, powerful, durable, dependable.... What else do you really want for the $$?

Get 'er done, Jerrah!

He's been retired and year and a half could we even get him in football shape in time for the season?

Waters had the better career. Waters is likely a Hall of Famer, 6 time Pro Bowl, 2 time All Pro, one of the best 4-5 guards of this generation. Moore had a good career. 1 time Pro Bowler, well respected and above average every season. The only reason I preferred Moore is because he's 3 years younger and was playing last season. It would be nice if Waters is in shape and can play like he did 2 years ago.

They have?

Matt Johnson's injury is just day-to-day. He probably won't miss extended time, and he's still competing for the starting job.

Arkin started the game against Miami, and has drawn mostly positive reviews.

take the blinders off dude, why would they be knocking on Waters' door? for fun?

If a 36 yr old can get up for 1 season, the Cowboys need to count their blessings and make guard their priority in the draft next year along with safety. They've found out in 2 weeks at camp their best hopes for Arkin/Matt Johnson were what we all thought they were... HOPES

Past 5 years and counting

I remember the first two to three years everybody on the boards wanted Andre Gurode out on the street. Then Parcells placed him at center and he went to the Pro Bowl numerous times. The point here is that many times it takes offensive linemen several years before they blossom. Another case in point is HOFer Rayfield Wright.

Waters is not signing anytime soon. He didn't sign in 2011 until camp was over and he will do the same thing this year if he decides to play and someone wants him. He is not signing with a month of camp and hard work to go.

You're probably right. The problem is he didn't play all of last year. It was less of a problem in 2011 since he played the year before. I hope he doesn't expect to show up old and out of shape and still getting a starting spot. I'd prefer he had to earn it even if we signed him.

I really think the primary goal of signing anyone right now is provide depth.
Moore was attractive becasue he could play both guard spots. If he somehow still had enough in the tank to start, all the better.
I suspect that is the same logic being applied to any of the older, washed-up vets.

I just hope Waters has kept in shape if he expects to be handed a starting job at the end of preseason.

Exactly, hope isn't a plan!

not that it matters or anything but hope is a big part of pretty much all plans.

When a team drafts a new QB to be their franchise guy they do so hoping that he'll be what they're looking for.

Look at the Chargers with Leaf. You think they drafted him thinking he'd be like that? No, they hoped he'd be a star. He wasn't.

You go into every season hoping you don't get destroyed by injuries. That's a hope. You can't control it you just hope for good things.

So, yeah, essentially hope plays a lot into plans with sports because you just never know whats going to happen.

I don't know what's so special about Waters. I really think people are overreacting about the RG position.

I couldn't disagree more. That line of thinking is why the O-line is often over looked and goes forever without being upgraded. Cause people think it's an overreaction that the line simply isn't good.

Moore would have easily beaten out Livings or Bernadeau for a starting spot, don't kid your self into thinking what we already have is just as good because he chose to retire

That's why they are trying to upgrade the RG position, right?

The reason they are going after these aging vets is because the alternative, (Arkin, Berny, Livings, etc) totally suck!

No, the reason they are going after these vets is because almost all of the alternatives are currently injured. Livings, Bernadeau, Dominguez, and Kowalski are all hurt, which is part of why we were playing our first-round center at guard well into the fourth quarter against Miami. We would still need to add another player or two even if Arkin was a Pro Bowler.

Nobody said what we have is good enough.

Cowboys just released that TCU guard Jeff Olson they signed last week. I don't expect a roster spot to stay open very long, the question is if it's for another guard or not. The Brian Waters talk seems to have cooled in the last 24 hours.
