They could have but there wasn’t a need to. He wasn’t being pursued as a hot commodity.

Thats the only thing that’s turning up the dial now.
True, I just think he has to earn his spurs over time. He certainly is doing better each year.

I’d agree . But unfortunately about 25% of the league each year is looking for a new HC every year .

And they often are looking for an up an coming coordinators. It becomes more about supply and demand than readiness.

Ultimately the decision is are we willing to let Moore walk. And the answer might be yes. We shall see.

I think it will depend more on what our future is with McCarthy.

I think you are making assumptions here.

I am not pushing for hiring Moore or keeping McCarthy.

I created this poll because I thought it was a perfect time to gauge the opinions of the community right now on a six game winning streak because I felt it was the best time for a level playing field of fan emotions between the two coaches.

If I had waited until the Cowboys lost a game (or more), then it would have influenced the results because of those losses.

Right now, it is a fair question to ask and, more importantly, an interesting question for everyone here.

When the season is over no matter the result, I will likely post the same poll again so we can see how fan sentiment changed or if it even changed at all over time.

My thoughts is if we were just totally pooping the bed, yes, I would think about canning MM and promoting Boy Wonder but if they continually do what they're doing and winning (even if we lose 3 or 4 or 5 games), why would we get rid of MM? just because a fan as a personal feeling about him? It makes no sense.

Equally true. I hope we can keep him.
Does he really want to go somewhere and do that?

Because we’re looking down the road. And we must also feel that Moore’s presence is a major factor to our success and development of Dak and his success on offense which is our strength and force leading us to where we are.

I’m not sure what we credit McCarthy for specifically at this point . It’s not his offense . He doesn’t call the plays . All we’ve seen thus far is questionable 4th down decisions , poor time clock Mgmt and unbelievable analytical maneuvering.

Basically we’ve overcome him thus far .

Probably but he seems to be good at managing things from a higher level. If all he does is keep Jerry out of things so the culture of the team is good then that is more than any coach has done since Jimmy.

Nope. While he is an important cog in the wheel, the offense is so loaded with talent it would be hard to not find productivity with that unit. Sticking big picture.

Jerry has been showing some restraint this year and last. Some...

Everyone who voted no is correct in my opinion.

The HC is such a huge part of what formulates this team on the roster, the locker room and the front office.

Great HC live in all three realms.

No way KM is ready for that. He is great coordinating. We have no clue on the sideline mgmt, the locker room nor the front office.

Let's not go down rabbit holes we have before and failed. Campo, Phillips and Garrett.

Just sigg him to a contract he can't walk away from, and try to keep him in the building for the next three years. Maybe MM can give him more responsibility as the assistant HC and give him parts of the HC portfolio to manage.

Moore is one of the better OC's we've had in a very long time. If he is our HC, does he promote someone already on the staff who keeps his offense? If so, then ok...make him HC. If he brings in someone different with a different offensive style, then no, I don't want him as HC. Ideal scenario is keeping BOTH McCarthy as HC and Moore as OC.....but not sure that will happen.

Kellen Moore is Tom Landry like in innovation.

The offense is predicated on his inventive and adaptive playcalling and the players do not just trust him but would run through walls for him.

Dak has become MVP candidate last 2 seasons running KM system.

Continuity on #1 offense is critical to maintain ongoing team success. Dak relies on KM, their relationship is special.

Jerry needs to keep KM and even DQ at all/any cost.

MM is important but not critical to any of the units.

I thought it would be the best time to ask this question because the team is on a six gaming winning streak and satisfaction levels with McCarthy and Moore seem to be strong.

So the question is ..

If after the season, Kellen Moore receives a head coach (NFL or college) offer that he plans to accept, would you want to fire Mike McCarthy and hire Kellen Moore as the Dallas Cowboys head coach or would you keep Mike McCarthy and let Kellen Moore leave?

If our success keeps up, which it is going to, I'd make McCarthy/Moore/Quinn all Assistant Head Coaches and pay them all equally with a nice raise since their salaries don't count against the cap. They can rotate talking to the media. It's never been done before and my idea is a stupid idea, but damn, I don't want to lose any of them. This team is special.

But that doesn't answer the question. Before I vote, is there a rule that you can't run the EXACT same offense from a offensive coordinator who left for a another team? I'm sure Mike's been keeping notes.

I just don’t see how you can fire MM if this team is in the playoffs and at least wins a game and no chance if he makes it to the nfccg. I get the argument will be that “kellen will be the guy that gets us over the top” but how can you really say that? he’s never coached before even if I love his potential.

im not even a huge MM guy but if the team wins 12-14 games out of 17 even if Moore looks very promising how do you fire the head coach off that? to me that screams typical cowboys.....always meddling and never building that continuity. Yes, it’s always about the post season but it’s really really hard to win in this league and even more so in the post season and the nfc this years looks stacked.

It will hurt to lose kellen and if we had a terrible year this year or just average I’d be the first to send Mike out but I just don’t see it happening, don’t think it’s a sure thing promoting kellen as it’s a different animal being a head coach than oc and I don’t see the Jones’s pulling the trigger on that- remember they hired MM they wanna be right.

Kellen Moore as a head coach would bring in Jason Garrett as his OC .......

I guarantee it.

I cannot see MM retiring any time soon :D

it would be like St. Louis Rams pushing out D. Vermeil even after winning SB, ..to put in place the engineer of the Greatest Show on Turf - Mike Martz as HC.
(who rumor had it Jerry was showing interest at Senior Bowl, before deciding on (sigh) ..Dave Campo :() .

yes, even if McCarthy "retire" ..with this winning season it would greatly improve his stock upon his next HC hiring.
Like Vermeil, he still has coaching in his blood and wants to lead his team. He's making 18 million but what's that to extreme billionnaire Jerry ?

I voted no. I'm not the biggest MM fan, but the team is rolling. I don't think you can fire a guy who has the team noticeably improved and replace him based on Moore's potential. I hope Moore sticks around a few more years before we're faced with this scenario.
