Interesting. I only see him portrayed as this superman guy with the same boring things to say. He actually looks embarrassed out there sometime but maybe I am reading more into that than really exists.

I do not understand why they don't make him a bad guy. Surely the bad guys sell tshirts too? Anything is better than the lame stuff he is made to do. He is in a huge rut & I just started watching!

They do sell him as a superman type guy and have since about 2004 or 2005 because he sells to the little kids. He was super popular in that gimmick at first but several years ago that got tired and stale and I'm sure he doesn't exactly love it all the time anymore because he gets booed a whole lot. I feel for the guy because he does work his butt off for them, and he loves that business, but he's stuck in a terrible gimmick because it works with their younger audience.

They ALL say that and then they ALL come back. The Rock is WAYYYYY wealthier than Punk. He comes back for some spots. Austin would come back for spots if it weren't for his neck problems.

The problem for Punk is he's not on that level of Lesnar (cross over MMA star), the Rock (cross over movie star) or Austin (arguably the most important wrestler in the history of the WWE). So it's harder for him to do just a WrestleMania since he doesn't quite have their popularity. I see more of a Roddy Piper after he left the company in the 80's. He'll comes back for a few months to build a feud, have a blow-off and then take some more months off before re-starting another feud. Maybe another title run.

YR

All good points.

For the Rock I'd point out that he was gone for something like 7 years before they got him to comeback for a handful of shows over a 2 year span in order to work his stuff with Cena. I don't know there is just something different about Punk to me that I could see that guy saying "I'm done" and actually not coming back.

I don't think it's this particular time, as I think he's taken the time off out of frustration and not because he's ready to be through with the business, but I can absolutely see a time when he'll walk away and not come back and I do believe it's going to be at a much younger age than most people in that business.

He's very boring. And if he's a good wrestler they don't showcase that because he is pretty one dimensional to me. The Superman stuff is bleh.

I think Rollins is a whole lot better & also Bray.

I am looking thru a new fan's eye now mind you.

He isn't a good wrestler. Just like Hulk Hogan he has about 5 moves and IMO his Attitude Adjustment finisher is WEAK.

Probably why people boo him. He's boring. I saw a video on something & Hogan was a bad guy once. So why not Cena?

Weren't those Shield guys bad not long ago & they had plenty of fan support.

I admire good guys in anything but these guys, to remain interesting, seem to be able to slip between the bad/good roles as needed to keep fans interested. Right?

Cena can't change his gimmick for 2 reasons. 1 - his merchandise sales are number one. 2 - his commitement to Make-A-Wish. I could throw in a 3rd possible reason - Daniel Bryan's career may be over. Cena's act is beyond old, tired, boring whatever word you wish to choose. But it is what's best for business I suppose.

Ok see this I do not understand. Surely some if not many of those guys & gals are "bad" guys & I am sure do a ton of charity work. So that part of it I do not understand.

I'd rather have a guy who is exciting & his act is not so stale. You know I have just started watching & I am already sick of him! I cannot imagine you long time fans like his act after years of that.

I just hope they continue to highlight guys like Rollins & Bray & reigns. I suppose I will wear out my FF when John Cena is on.

And you're right on the money with it as far as how they book him and use him now and for the last several years.

Bray is damn good. He should be the main heel, IMO.

I do not know why because he's nothing to look at but I liked Bray the first time I saw him. I like all those Wyatt guys. I do not care for that silly stuff they have his brother doing though.

If I was Cena I'd have a talk with their management & beg them to let him do something different. Unless he likes that boring Superman stuff. He may think he's really cool.

I don't mind the 5 moves so much as he at least does them athletically. :D I cheered my butt off as a kid for Hogan, but when I see footage from the 80's I cringe sometimes. And talk about a weak finisher. A leg drop? Was exciting back then, kinda meh now.

Lots of lame finishers from the 80s. Roddy Pipper's sleeper hold, Hogan's leg drop, Warrior's Splash and tons of other routine moves you see ever match like Elbow drops, DDTs, neck breakers, ect. Each generation tries to come up with these great looking moves, because after seeing the same ones over and over, lots of fans get bored

An interesting post and there's probably some truth to that.

The problem is that they (the producers, choreographers and the wrestlers themselves) can't take finishers any further. They went down that slippery slope in the 90's and here we are. And by having such elaborate finishing moves they've made wrestling look that much more choreographed.

Some guys could make a rather mundane finisher like a flying knee drop (Bruiser Brody) or a vertical suplex (Harley Race) or a DDT (Jake the Snake) or an abdominal stretch (Tony Garea) or a swinging neck breaker (Gene Anderson) look devastating.

But wrestling transitioned from a series of wrestling holds culminating in a finisher, to a series of old-style finishing maneuvers culminating to a new-style finisher.

I like Bray's "finisher" & also that Adam guy that comes out with all those people. I forgot his last name.

Adam Rose. He is getting booked very poorly by WWE Creative and it is just killing his value. Last I read he may get sent back down to NXT if they can't figure out something soon. I feel sorry for all the NXT talent they bring up and throw into the mix without proper storylines and booking.

You don't Bo-Lieve? LOL. Actually Bo Dallas is in the exact same boat Rose is. Terrible push. You just can't throw someone out there and expect them to be popular or people to root for them.

Bo is wavering on that bad/good line & he just isn't a good bad guy like his brother is.

I don't get why he comes out soaking wet every week. What's with that?

I like the silliness of Rose. I mean Bo wrestled a midget. That's pretty dumb.

Ironically, one of my favorite finishing moves from then has been since banned due to the originator being a Very Bad Person. I'll leave it at that, since it is one of those He Whose Name Shall Not Be Mentioned.

That was Daniel Bryan. BTW I still think there is a good chance his career is in jeopardy with his neck situation.
