WWE contracts are usually saddled with low guaranteed money and stockpiled with bonuses. The NXT guys often don't make more than $25K a year.

The contracts are a bit better now because they are based more on royalties and it is more organized as to how much royalties the performer gets. Every quarter or so they will give the performer a book that tells them how much of their likeness was sold thru various sales channels and their cut of the money.

So for somebody like Punk, he can still make money without being on TV, but it's going to be significantly less that he would be making if he was on TV. It's almost night and day difference.

He's a guy that paid a lot of money out in his career. He paid off Joey Mercury's mortgage. He had his own Tour Van with his own driver. And he has a multi-million dollar mortgage in Chicago.

YR

From what I understand, even with all of that, he's not going to have to ever worry about any money problems. It's my understanding, again from what I've read and heard about him, that he's been extremely good with his money over the years of his long career and has done so specifically so he could retire at a younger age than the rest of the guys.

I agree with you that I think at some point he's going to be back cause I don't think he's done with wanting to be in the business but if there was ever a guy who I believe could walk away at that age and not look back it would be a guy like Punk. He's one of those guys who loves wrestling, enjoys doing it, but he doesn't need it the way guys like HHH, Cena, Flair, and Hogan do.

I just watched the RAW from last night. It wasn't very good. I do like Jericho.

They had Bray doing nothing really.

I just thought overall it was sort of boring!

Sounds like I'll be zipping through my DVR'd RAW from last night at light speed tonight... :D

You may like it! I am such a new fan I am sort of fixated on certain guys & some of them I have not grown to like yet. I just thought it was a blah show. I don't like Cena. They were saying last night he was the greatest champ ever!

I have 30 minutes left to watch and so far I as very unimpressed. Very little new stuff just rehashing more of the same old stuff. But hey, we do we a free week of WWE Network!

I'm not interested in their channel. I like it ok but not enough to pay for it.

My son got so bored with Raw last night he watched the Money In The Bank replay. Sometime this week we will rewatch WM from March. I'm going to watch it while it's free.

I guess I should clarify before I get chewed up & spit out on here.

Technically I do pay for it with my satellite but I don't want to pay extra for their channel.

I think I read where that network is the reason for their recent money issues.

I have a question to ask the wrestling experts here.

How do you guys think the Wyatt tag team guys are doing?

For huge guys I think they are great. Particularly Luke. His facial expressions kill me.

They're a solid tag team that the WWE will wind up completely wasting. The fact that they're having them struggle to get the titles off the Usos, who are boring as hell, is just stupid booking on the part of the WWE. Unfortunately that is the standard formula for the WWE to use. Stupid booking.

Thus John Cena now being a 15 time champion. They went right back to the old, tired, and over played Cena crap the moment that Bryan was hurt. It's disgusting. The guy will wind up with more reigns, by a pretty large margin most likely, than Ric Flair and he's about 1/3 the wrestling character and champion that Ric Flair was.

I hope they don't waste them as a team!

Maybe it's just me but I don't find Cena even a very good wrestler. I see lots of guys on there that seem to be better wrestlers!

Maybe that Punk guy will come back & save the show. You guys have me curious about him. I'd like to see the reception he would get.

Cena in his gimmick with the WWE is a terrible wrestler. But make no mistake about this Cena is actually a damned good wrestler. I've known about Cena since his days in the indies as The Prototype. He's actually a much better wrestler than the WWE allows him to showcase under his current gimmick.

He's also much better on the mic than his stupid little hero gimmick allows him to be as well. If they'd unshackle the guy and let him be a bad guy and just really go he could be damned entertaining. Unfortunately all the 4-9 year old children love their superhero so they keep Cena in this played out, boring, and confining gimmick.

Interesting. I only see him portrayed as this superman guy with the same boring things to say. He actually looks embarrassed out there sometime but maybe I am reading more into that than really exists.

I do not understand why they don't make him a bad guy. Surely the bad guys sell tshirts too? Anything is better than the lame stuff he is made to do. He is in a huge rut & I just started watching!

Btw guys did WWE almost go out of business due to another wrestling company?

I saw that DVD advertisement on there & they said well we either got better or went out of business. Huh?

Is it that company that is on that put the scare in them? TNA I think.

No, WWE's (or WWF back then) main competition was WCW, but really outside of 95-99, it wasn't really a competition. WCW, has a stretch from 96' to 98' where they won the ratings battle on Monday nights more often than not, but WCW fell off sharply around January of 1999

Ok. Thx. Competition is always good. It doesn't seem like they have any which may explain why they are so up & down with good shows then a bad one.

I don't know what that means but from a female prospective Fandango is kind of cute. I don't get why they make him so silly but ok.

And the 2 girls chasing him are pretty for you guys.

They ALL say that and then they ALL come back. The Rock is WAYYYYY wealthier than Punk. He comes back for some spots. Austin would come back for spots if it weren't for his neck problems.

The problem for Punk is he's not on that level of Lesnar (cross over MMA star), the Rock (cross over movie star) or Austin (arguably the most important wrestler in the history of the WWE). So it's harder for him to do just a WrestleMania since he doesn't quite have their popularity. I see more of a Roddy Piper after he left the company in the 80's. He'll comes back for a few months to build a feud, have a blow-off and then take some more months off before re-starting another feud. Maybe another title run.

All that is true but he is still white hot....for now. The longer he waits to return the cooler he will be. In other words, I think he has a short shelf life unless he comes back full time.
