I never said Tyler Smith is better. Where did I say that? I said Tyler Smith is superior and young talent who could easily start at Right Guard and not miss a beat. Easy replacement.
"Superior" meaning better.

Easy to replace martin? You need help

My issue is the timing…..
Timing is always based on what gives the player the highest amount of leverage. It has nothing to do with what fans want or even what the front offc wants. Players have an eye blink of time to earn their maximum value. Waiting for a guy who’s 32 would not be in his best interest.

I support Zack Martin’s position. He’s arguably the best G in the NFL has zero guarantees on the remainder of his current contract. He could be cut (sure he won’t) so the argument about “honoring” his current deal is mute in my book. The real value of any NFL contract is usually in the guarantees.

Lol a Martin extension may lower his hit this year and would certainly lower it next year, probably by close to $10m.

The idea that 6+ young bucks need contracts is a total misrepresentation of when those extensions are due, and when/how Martin's contract might impact them.
They don't need to lower his cap hit this year. What would you do with Martin at 33 years old with two years left on his current contract? How many years beyond the age of 35 should they pay him, and how much? Lets not make the mistake of paying a player for what he's done instead of what he will do.

BH, there is a salary cap in play, Martin still has 2 years left on current well paid contract, plus 6+ young bucks are due for new contract extensions, not including Dak. Cowboys can't afford to keep paying top overall league pay for their Olinemen. Cowboys of the 90s never did it, and yet, they found a way to build their Oline into one of the best in NFL history while winning 3 Super Bowls with it.
They can’t afford not to do this IMO. NFL contracts are not about how many years are on the contract. It’s really all about how much guaranteed money is in place.

As far as cap room, I have zero worry about that. Teams can flex how they pay guys. The Cowboys are in pretty good cap shape anyway.

I see Bosa is not practicing until he gets his extension. I wonder why Martin did not do the same?

Probably because almost all star veterans like ZM hate training camp. If he gets to miss two weeks and he gets his money, it’s “win-win”.

Silly- when he signed his contract he was the highest paid. Do you really expect players contracts to adjust every year so they continue to be the highest paid? I'm sure they will get him a bit more so he's happy but this whole nonsense that he is grossly underpaid is simply that.

In the NFL, I DO think if a player is top tier, they should be paid/adjusted pretty much accordingly every couple years as the contract if the market changes drastically. Dropping from #1 to #8 is a large downgrade especially considering Zack is considered still the best Tackle in all of football. I understand that people think a player should honor their contract but if there is a crazy market adjustments, the team should help him out. Agents should also build better null and void language based on certain triggers..

If you're worried about extending other players (i.e. Diggs) you do, though I agree you don't.

There's nothing to suggest he won't still be a top OG until he's 36-37. No injury history, no decline in play.
