Zack Martin update - based on Jerry Jones comments

Again unless Martin and his agent are idiots, there is no way they are asking for a deal where Jerry pays him a crap ton of money next year but that they dont extend the contract beyond 2024.

Last week it was they were dug in and he needed the money to sign other players. Now it's we can pay him but want a certain length of contract.

I can firmly state if Martin doens't play in 2023, we have little to no shot at the SB. He's that important to the OL, especially helping Steele and Biadasz. He's that valuable to the offense. They have literally built their entire OL around him and the hope that Tyron can stay healthy.

I don't need to. The belief that a player could demand and get a massive pay increase for just one more season and hit FA is unprecedented in the NFL. It's illogical to think that Martin and his agent think they could get a huge pay increase under this current contract AND THEN get to hit FA after 2024 and get another massive deal.

Your flaw here is that you are swallowing what Jerry is telling you. And that's your first mistake. Jerry is very well known to just spew BS in the media and try to control the narrative on various situations. Don't fall for it.

not sure I agree with extend and show him the $$$$$..... is he great? yes, but can we go out and get two top 15 guards for the price of one great guard? probably. you don't go to the superbowl because you have the best guard in the league.

You are already taking a massive cap hit on him next year anyway and have dummy years beyond the end of his contract. So you are going to be eating cap hits for Martin regardless of what you do. So you could give him more cash, extend his deal and still have fairly manageable cap hits.

It's what I find funny about all of this - claims of you don't need an OG eating up that much cap space because it's not that important a position, somehow forgetting Martin already will eat up a huge chunk of cap space in the future. You could lower his cap hit next year, blend those dummy year cap hits and make Martin content. And yet................... here comes Jerry.
