Wow...Zeke was underwhelming...he averaged 6.7 yards on 1st and ten..I mean, he got 100 yards just on 1st downs.

This is his 3rd NFL game. He has the 8th best start for rookie in NFL history. He is 2 yards away from 6th place.

He has had a better start than Adrian Peterson, better than any other Cowboy RB before him.

But he is underwhelming.....I can only describe this perception as bizarre.

For the fourth pick in the draft, I would like to see a few more wins when he is one-on-one. He has just missed breaking some twenty+ yard runs because he has not been able to do that consistently. It seems that maybe he is not trusting his instincts because he is still adjusting to the scheme and the speed of the pro game.

Having said that, it seems obvious to me that he is improving each week and he is starting to see things better on the field. There was an astronomical jump between what he did against NY and what he did last night.

I think he will become what everyone was hoping for pretty soon.

Yup he's still adjusting, he's just going to get better and better. He's 21 years old , you can see he's being more patient, he did get tripped up but he also got some tough yards.

Elliott had a good game last night. And he was shoestring tackled a few times.

Both are true statements.

And some people -like you - are knowledgable enough and mature enough to realize that.

And some people aren't.

No, it isn't. It happened plenty of times when there was the potential for such huge plays. It's not a criticism of Elliott, just an unfortunate occurrence. But, again, some people can't understand the difference and the kids feel the need to lash out if it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

Honestly, I agree with you- Zeke wasn't "great" last night.

There was one or two running plays last night in particular- one was a stretch play right that he had a huge crease but minimal contact to his foot caused him to slip just a touch and lose balance. There was also a dive play up the middle where had he kept his eyes up he would have seen an opportunity to his left at the second level, but he was already in crash mode. He would have scored easily had he maintained upright.

He's still got to tweak his game a bit, but it will come. Zeke probably could have gone for 200 last night had Williams not fumbled. If we score a TD there or FG- he gets numerous carries to the finish line. He needs the reps still- but he is a good one. I'm not concerned- he's plenty of RB.

I also feel playcalling late failed him a bit... the sweep left play that he almost got the first was an odd choice on short yardage- He's usually going to get one yard up the middle no matter the stacked box.

Repeatedly tripped up when the potential for huge runs was there. Call it 'shoe string' or whatever else you want to, but there were several plays where if he had only kept his feet, there was the potential for big yardage. It's not a criticism of Elliott, or saying he did something wrong, but pointing out a few 'what might have been' plays.

I think he needs different cleats or something. I've noticed him slipping a lot when cutting.

That's simply called getting tackled. He made some tough hard runs. Maybe I need to rewatch and see what you guys are talking about.

You guys have high standards if you think 140 yards is not great. You guys have become far too spoil d.

After 3 games as a rookie AD had 271 and Zeke 274. Zeke has played 3 games and is doing a good job and showing improvement week to week. Anyone expecting a finished product at this point in his career is just being foolish he will continue to improve as a player as he gains more experience in the NFL

Emmitt started out with 76 yards on 25 carries (3.1 per carry). It's too bad Elliott hasn't gotten off to that kind of start.

Smith started to get a feel for the NFL game around the fifth game when he carried 23 times for 121 yards (5.3), but he still had five more games averaging less than 4 yards per carry and ended up at 3.9 for the season.

The only thing that shows is that we're quick to judge around here. If we had had these message boards in 1990, many fans would have been saying that Smith was a waste of a first-round pick.

Elliott's production is great for this early in the season and hopefully will continue to be great. There's no reason to expect more than what he has done at this point. We'll see where it goes from here.

It isn't being spoiled.......they decided a long time ago that drafting RBs early in the first is a no-no....they need EE to fail to look good in the mirror because no one else cares.....real Cowboy fans have to be pleased so far....if the biggest complaint is that he almost broke like 6 runs then that is awesome

That's pathetic to me then. But I've seen it. People have done it with Dak too. They will do anything to discredit this team.

He is averaging too many carries right now...23 per game. Maybe it's just early in the season and they want him to get reps since he didn't have much of a preseason. As the year goes on though, I'd like to see that decrease to averaging about 18 per game, which tends to be more of the average for a starting RB. Keep those legs fresh for December. Would have liked to have seen Morris get those late 4th quarter garbage time carries.

We all get so locked into our positions that we fight harder for them than the truth ........we do it in sports, politics and even our entertainment with American Idol and shows like that

We just can't sit back and enjoy the ride....the same people poo-pooing 1500 yards from EE were pumping up 1000 from DMC last year......but the difference each has on the Offense is huge

McFadden could've done just as well last night.

Not impressed.

The production is really good.. It doesn't take a top 5 pick to get good production. We need special for that investment.

Well, what special talent was there at pick #4 ?
Besides of Wentz, who went #2, I can see nobody doing smth special right now. Zeke is getting close and he will get there.

You should have read the gameday thread here.
If Zeke needed a break and waved himself out of the game people say he isn't in shape.
Its crazy really. This guy cant win in the minds of certain fans. He could go for 1500 yards this season and people will say "so what, McFadden went for 1000 in less games".

Its so predictable.

Yeah, like I said, it's not criticizing him, but lamenting the huge run that might have been.

But he has already improved leap sand bounds from his first game....... he is using patience and letting the holes develop...... soon he will be busting the huge runs, not just 10 -15 yarders on the reg
