Couldn't be further from the truth....Quinn was trying to stop the run with the dime package defense. And he refused to play Zach Evans....or Clarke in the middle. That's just piss poor coaching right there.

Like every coach, Zimmer has weaknesses, but his defenses have often been good enough to get the job done.

From an MSN article:

The Vikings' defense was top-12 in points allowed in each of Zimmer's first six seasons with the team, including a top-five finish in 2015, '17, and '19. Zimmer also anchored a top-10 defense in terms of points allowed in four of six seasons as the Bengals' defensive coordinator.

On top of his experience, Zimmer has produced more success against Shanahan-style offenses than most defensive coaches. As more play-callers from the Shanahan tree populate the league, Zimmer's experience in that department could be critical, particularly given the tough time the Cowboys have had with Kyle Shanahan's own 49ers offense over the years.

Yeah the Shanahan thing is nice. He's had a lot of good defenses. His personality won't like allow for the soft all show no go type of nonsense these guys have done repeatedly.

I thought so, but many here were wanting quinn fired and glad he left ! lol
Quinn gave us a respectable defense,for the 1st time in decades. It wasnt the steel curtain, or like the old dallas defenses , but it was pretty good
against most teams, but did crumble once diggs and the LB got hurt ,and towards end of this season , when quinn may have found out he wasnt
going to be hc here and jerry was going to keep MM instead.

I really think Jones boys did something to piss quinn off, so no way was he coming back for 24, and I think he likes being in the east so he will
play dallas, and will go all out to beat dallas.

Quinn’s defenses are to rely on pressure and induce turnovers. Any team that had a decent running game would run all over the Cowboys. Bend but don’t break and wait for a turnover. His defenses sucked.

I don't know if he'll be the right defensive coach here, but he's been a good one in his career. His fit here will depend a lot (like it does with all coaches) on what the front office gives him to work with. If they don't improve the linebackers and DTs, in particular, then Zimmer will look no better than his predecessor. The good news in that respect is that usually when you bring in a new guy, your offseason is more geared to giving him what he needs to succeed.

I think so much depends on what you have to work with. Quinn had safeties playing linebacker (after losing LVE), a first-round pick that was essentially worthless his first year, one great pass rusher that got overused as a pass rusher because he was the defensive catalyst and, in the playoff game, a starting corner playing through a shoulder injury (after losing his top corner during the season).

Sometimes these coaches have to work around the talent shortfalls/injuries, and it doesn't always work out the way that they want. All they can do is put what they've got in the best position possible to succeed. It's up to the front office to try to give them the parts they need. Sure, some coaches aren't good enough, but there are quite a few who are but just can't cover well enough for the weak links.

People are too caught up with his age. This isn't Marinelli who was stubborn and stuck with his system, Zimmer has evolved his defense quite a bit over the years.

I don't think I'll be missing DQ. His performance against Green Bay was the last straw for me. I'm ready to give Zimmer the controls and see if he can clean up some of DQ's slop.

Well if they get sharper with age, they better wait till Garrett is about 102! He's gonna need a lot of sharpening!
