Yeah especially the Steelers D is very tricky and well disguised on who is blitzing. they mixed it up well and thats why they confused the heck out of Manning. thats a real 3-4 D not what we showed this last year with players on O knowing who was blitzing and not mixing things up
Plese do note that you need another OLB who can get to the QB if you are going to run a succesful 3-4. Ware was the only legit pass rushing threat off the edge, so please, how can you disguise the 4th rusher, the basic concept of the 3-4, if you don't have another guy who's a threat off the edge

Utter nonsense.

You want Capers?

Houston's defense gave up 348 FD, 5824 yards, 50 TD, had 37 sacks and 7 INT, with a TOP of 31:50.

Pittsburgh 275 FD, 4544 yards, 27 TD, 47 sacks, 15 INT, TOP of 28:44.

Dallas 256 FD, 4814 yards, 35 TDs, 37 sacks, 15 INT, TOP 27:36.

Something of note is Pittsburgh's LBs had 28.5 sacks compared to 16 for Dallas, we actually matched up very well stat-wise with the Steelers.

New scheme, a ton of new players, half our LBs end up on IR and we held our own.

Here's a clue...

THAT'S CALLED COACHING.

If we had Dom Capers as our DC you would not have to be makin these excuses.

BlindZebra. Just admit it. You think Zimmer can do no wrong and is the greatest DC the NFL has ever seen. Greg Williams and other DCs are not even worthy of bein mentioned in the same breath as Mike Zimmer.

28.5 and 16 is a BIG difference if you ask me. That's close to a sack a game from your LB's.

ANd more than that, theyt have the presence of another OLB who can pass rush. Porter finished with 7 sacks, Haggans had 6. Ware had 8, Fujita had 2, and no one ohter than Brady James had more than 2.5. That's a problem when you are trying to disguise where the rush is coming from...looks pretty much like Ware is the one who's coming.

Do you believe that Zimmer is a better coach of the 3-4 than Capers?

We are not talking just this year...But over a career.

Capers had ample time, high draft picks, and chances to build a somewhat decent defense. They sucked.
You honestly believe that Dom Capers could have turned Scott Fujita into a pro bowler dont you? Face the facts that we need another presence at OLB, regardless of who your DC is. You are so blind sometimes. It's absolutely ridiculous...you don't seem to notice how silly you look at times. I odnt really mind, since you are entitled to your oppinion online, but your agenda just get's pretty annoying.
I guarantee, regardless of who our DC is next year, this defense willbe much improved. We will add some players, and we will be more comfortable in our scheme.
You keep citing Gregg Williams as your only comparison to Zimmer, sorry, but guys like that don't just come around every day.

It doesnt matter if he killed them or not. Look at the carolina defense then. The moral is other defense get pressure and change games with BIG TIME DEFENSE. We do not or will not ever have with Zim.

How many times did you say Joe Smow beat us because we didnt make the guy feel uncomfortable in the pocket. See New Orleans game when some smuck made our defense look like crap. We looked like we were playing against Young or Elway that game.

Thank you: The Cowboys do not show there quickness, energy, motivation or excitement (even though they are) Look at attitudes of Ray Lewis, Keyshawn, Jake delehome, Charles hayley is there anyone on the defense that flat out scares the guy across the line..The Cowboys look studied, Poker Faced and scared to show excitment the majority of the time..in fear doing something wrong. Sometimes it just better to turn-em loose and play Football..Get aggressive, smash somebody. so you take a penalty. ,motivation can change a game.
Zimmer can't produce it..

Billy.

What you are missin is this. Some coaches are greate DCs or OCs but never make good HCs. Capers looks like a great DC but a guy who will never be a good HC.

Let Caper just worry about the D and he will give you a mad violent D that will scare the **** outta any team his D faces. He is just not a good HC.

Actually Porter and Haggans combined for 19.5 sacks.

We have one play maker at LB, in a LB dependant scheme, but it's all Zimmer's fault.

I agree that Capers is a better 3-4 coordinator than Zimmer, but you seem to be not watching the games, or not wanting to believe what you are seeing. We are missing the biggest part of what makes the 3-4 tick....another OLB who can get to the QB. That's the truth. The guy accros from Ware doesn't have to be as quick or good as Ware, but he's got to be a bit more intimidating as a rusher than Fujita or Singleton

Well pittsbrughs stat site sucks then. But that backs my point up even more. They have 2 OLB who can get pressure. We have 1. You can't blame Zimmer for not being able to get creative if the players don't work. Singleton isn't a 3-4 OLB. We just didn't have a better option.

No, I just feel the need to support a solid DC from the nonsense thrown out by agenda driven fools.

I'm still waiting for one basher with an intelligent, logical post.

This wait will last forever.

That soon, huh? :D

Funny how no one brings up how the Indy offense just shredded the Steeler defense after that Polamolu interception/incompletion. That drive took a whopping 1:29. Or how about the Indy offense schooling the Steeler defense just before the drive where Cowher went for it twice on 4th down. That Indy drive ate up a mind-boggling 2:17.

Yes, I liked some of the blitz packages LeBeau had going and they did apply pressure to Manning at times. The grass is always greener, isn't it people.

NFL.com has Porter with 10.5 and Haggans with 9.

Ware is the only play maker we have at LB, and to have the stats we did in a LB driven scheme, without the LBs, can only mean one thing.

Good coaching.

BUT HOW CAN THAT BE?!?!?!?! Zimmer is just so darn awful..he's terrible. My god, Wolverine must know more about NFL Coaches than Bill Parcells.

Yes it is amazing.....why our D can't put together a few blitz packages that work. It just boggles my old brain cells.

Cb, I think the problem is the S play and the inexperience of the LBs that hurt the defense this year. Look for improved play next year via more experience and if at all possible a veteran S like Chavous (wow) and at least one vet LB who can play the 3-4. Another FA CB like Glenn seals that deal. I'd also like Ellis to stay or at least replace him via FA or from within. Only the staff can answer that one.

Have faith ole friend; the defense will improve and we will have a better turnover ratio, less big plays given up and big plays at critical times.

I'm more worried about the Offense as I have been for the last ten frickin years.

Best. Have a Dr Pepper and relax.

Learn to read young one. I never, never claimed Payton was a bad coach, because he isnt. However, he is, to put this bluntly, Parcells b****. We need a guy who BP feels comfortable giving the playcalling duties to and not ordering them around with his ultra conservative approach.
