Didn't mean effort in the way you are taking it. I think timing, communication, etc., all improve with practice.

Last year, Lamb had his worst game dropping the ball in the opener after not playing in the preseason. This year, Pickens had a bad game dropping the ball. I think those are bugs you get out of the way under the lights when you play in the preseason. Let's say you have a drop on the first possession of a preseason game. That can cause you to examine yourself to make sure you are not just assuming the catch. It can cause you to spend more time on the JUGS machine, etc.

The energy expended in real games is different than what they get in practice. Those things can show up as drops and other mistakes. As someone else stated, if a team who's largely dominated the past 7 years can trot out MEGASTARs & multiple time champions for preseason work, really not any valid excuses for any other teams.

I agree. To me, not playing in the preseason needs to be earned. No-Schott withheld his starters last year and they failed in the first game. That alone should have been reason to get them some playing time.

3 preseason games. If the D starters had just played just 1 series in each game, this complete D breakdown would not have happened.

It didn't affect the Giants and a number of other teams who held out their players in triple games preseason. I think it also comes down to new coaches and inexperienced players as well. I think how we lost was worse than losing on the road against the Giants.

Preseason is an excuse for them not being on their game but I do notice Chiefs year in and out play the starters including Mahomes. I’d follow that blueprint whether it works or not. Certainly wouldn’t follow Cowboys.

I don’t care who started it I’m just saying id rather copy what winning teams do than loser teams. Pats or whoever. You cannot convince me that MORE series played by a group isn't beneficial. I'd take the risk myself. They looked completely lost.

Agreed. In this case, we had a pile of new starters on D who desperately needed some snaps. We did not give them those snaps, and this was the predictable outcome.

According to this, both Wentz and Dart played preseason game 2. I am game by game destroying the narrative that other teams do not play starters.
(note...I've not proven (YET) that helps oer not. Just sayin other teams DO...in fact...play starters and stars preseason. But I put more faith in THEM than Jerry)

That’s just something we’ve got to tighten up. You know things are a little different when things are flying around on Sunday night as opposed to it being in practice or camp. First week is never clean. There are obviously going to be mistakes. I, mean, during the preseason, a lot of the starters didn’t really play.”

This team needs to give up on the never playing starters in the pre season thing.

I get not playing the aging QB, but starters in their early 20s? Get them snaps.

You take on some level of injury risk, but that’s better than dropping a few games at the beginning of the season because you have no idea what’s going on.
