How would you feel about an 11-5 no playoffs season?

That's what happens when you remain competitive during a rebuild and never bottom out.

Believe it or not but the Cowboys have had very few premium high draft choices over the last two decades.

Talent wins in this league.

Ask Bill Beli about his time with the Browns. He might punch you in the throat for bringing up those horrific memories.

Billy hasn't had a losing in a long time. He never has high draft picks, either.

I think with a 11-5 record and no playoffs heads are going to roll on the coaching staff, considering how hard the team would have had to play to achieve that record, break the 8-8 and still miss the post season. Just my thought on it

In a perfect world. There are about two teams that would probably tolerate missing the playoffs 4 straight years though. Cincinnati and Dallas. Not surprisingly they're two clown franchises.

He plays in a horrible division...no seriously....that matters. When was the last Jets/Bills/Dolphins team that would have won the NFC East in the last decade? Not an excuse. Just facts.

Also he has one of the top 5 greatest QBs ever. That also matters.

Oh and a better GM.

It would be easier to swallow if you didn't have to worry about losing Marinelli, Linehan, Murray, (I doubt Dez but his contract's on the table), and Romo's age/health..... who knows what this team will look like next year? Seriously. Maybe you upgrade talent on D but lose Marinelli and maybe your O doesn't run as efficiently because of missing parts. Who knows? That is what SUCKS. If I knew we could keep the coaching staff and O intact AND Upgrade the talent on D and Romo would play at his optimum level next year... then yes, it would be easier pill to swallow.

That's along my thinking and I'm torn as well because I like the positive vibes finishing 11-5 gives a team who hasn't been able to get past 8-8 but beyond that, 11-5 and no playoffs strikes me as one of the worst outcomes.

No playoffs but they'll still get a lower draft pick throughout all rounds in the draft, a theoretically tougher schedule next year, a waste of what appears to be a record setting year from Murray which might lead to us losing him and another year or wear and tear on our 34 year old QB.

Its like there is nothing but downside in this scenario unless those positive vibes give the team the confidence they can win and missing out on the playoffs after finishing 11-5 serves as a massive motivator for the team next year to prepare and play balls out every week next season.

Regardless of the ramifications, I'll be rooting for them to win each and every game.

According to CZ, Garrett and Will McClay are co-GMs though. So Garrett's not a good enough coach OR GM? Why is he here?

Are you one of those weirdos who thinks this team hasn't improved from a talent perspective since Garrett became HC? Also this was Will McClay's first draft in charge.

But hey don't ever let the facts get in the way of a good rant!

The team has improved, but it doesn't take 4 years to get a team to the playoffs. Improvement is not enough. Results matter as well.

I'm not much of a thread starter but I really am interested in the responses.

Obviously nobody is going to be happy about missing the playoffs. That's not the point of this thread. I'm talking about how you would feel about the state of the team and it's immediate future.

Let's say the Cowboys win 2 of the next 3 games. Beat the Eagles, lose to the Colts, beat the Commanders. Or whatever way you want to do it. But they lose the tiebreakers for the division and wild card. They sit at home at 11-5. This is a pretty rare happening in the NFL.

What's your reaction? Is this the same team that can't close the deal and just misses the playoffs? Like every other year in recent memory? The record doesn't matter, all that matters is they came up short again?

Or was it just a flukey season, the team went 5-2 down the stretch, clear progress has been made and this is merely a case of some bad luck? No 11-5 team should ever be sitting at home watching a 7-9 division winner? This was a clear step forward towards 2015?

I say 11-5 and no playoffs. You say?

I ask because I really don't know.
It would suck royally, but it would indicate progress and Garrett would deserve to be extended. A coach who can win 11 games consistently is going to be in the playoffs a lot.

It's happened two times in 40 years. Won't happen this year ... We hit 11 and we are in...

It does when your suspect defense is killed by injuries. Teams that put several street free agents in the starting lineup don't make the playoffs.

As long as the one loss came from the Colts, I wouldn't feel too bad.

Seriously. You can't blame your coach for a weird season that sees a sub 500 team in over an 11 game winner.

I am not trying to blame Garret, I just would be shocked if coaches go after a season like that. Its just a wait and see game at this point

Good teams don't make excuses like this. The Cardinals are going to make the playoffs using 3 starting QBs. The Eagles are going to win this division using 2.

Your whole brain-addled argument revolves around the idea that because some team in a totally different situation does something, then every other team should be able to do it. I would ask you if you knew what logical fallacy that was, but then I'd have to explain what a logical fallacy is.

Not that any of that should be surprising coming from a troll using a Bill Parcells avatar posing as a Cowboys fan while proclaiming an Eagles win. Get lost.

The current playoff system needs to be totally re-evaluated. Top 6 teams get in ... regardless of division. No automatic bids. Create some tie breakers.

Then what's the point of divisions? This just reeks of butthurt.

How about this... same as is, but if a division winner doesn't .500, the playoff spot is forfeited to the next best record.

With this defense I would be ok and think it just wasn't their year. But the moves in the off season would be watched very closely.

The Cowboys can't succeed because they're coached by someone incompetent and according to CZ that same incompetent coach is a co-GM. So he has no excuses.

And what does Bill Parcells have to do with anything?
