I didn't really pay much attn. to Aggie football. Were these guys really that good or is it that they were starters?

Briles of course was on Leach's staff.
So was Holgerson and most of the guys running this fast-break spread.

It's been tweaked to add tempo(KK/Sumlin) and the power run game(Briles).

OU's Lincoln Riley is from that tree too.

Murray 4-star, Allen 5-star.

Murray was 42-0 at Allen HS, won 3 straight state championships, and was the Gatorade POY in 2014.
Also is a top prospect in baseball.
His dad is Kevin Murray, who played QB at A&M from '83-'86.

Kyle Allen was ranked the #1 pro-style QB in the nation coming out of HS in Scottsdale, AZ.
Interesting that he competed with Kenny Hill his freshman year, but was beaten out initially, then replaced him halfway through the year; Hill subsequently transferred to TCU.

So, their last 3 top QB prospects have now transferred out.

Methinks the QB coach is on thin ice, if not the OC and HC.

There's obviously a big story over the A & M stuff but I've always thought Sumlin was a good coach. Maybe it's not something he had any control over?

They are kids after all.

And is it just me but does Sumlin look like the Steelers HC?

Well, BFF........3 years in row A&M landed top QB recruits. Imagine how giddy the fan base was. Now, they've all voluntarily transferred after the offense imploded.
That fan base has been historically loyal and hesitant to utter a discouraging word, but they now want answers and changes.
WR and OL talent has not been lacking, so it must be a problem with the scheme and coaches.

The real story behind these transfers will come out soon.

In the meantime my Tide will continue to roll with our great coach! :)

The OC and QB coach are one and the same - Jake Spavital.

Most Aggies on A&M boards think he should have been fired long before either Allen or Murray decided to transfer. He simply hasn't done a good job calling plays this season.

The back and forth with starting Allen, then Murray, then Allen again didn't do either one of them any benefits either, so I can understand why they were mistrusting of the coaching staff.

What does surprise me is that Murray chose to leave, after Allen had already left. Murray had the reigns at this point, had excellent wide receivers (that are arguably better as a group than any other place he may transfer to), and the offense would have been tailored to his Manziel-like skills, which were different than Allen's (who's more of a traditional NFL-style drop back passer).

That he left anyway suggests either discord between him and Spavital or him and Sumlin. Or another possibility is that he has decided his long-term chances are better focusing on baseball rather than football, so he's leaving to do that elsewhere.

Two sources close to the situation said Texas A&M chancellor John Sharp is very concerned about the internal direction of the Aggie football program under Kevin Sumlin, 51, and is looking into the possibility of terminating Sumlin’s contract, which has a $20 million buyout.

One source said Sharp would then seek to hire Houston’s Tom Herman, 40, who went 12-1 in his first season coaching the Cougars and won the American Athletic Conference. Another source said North Carolina’s Larry Fedora, 53, who is from College Station, would also get strong consideration.

Of course...

The Cougars coach just signed a new contract right? Surely he would not stab them in the back like that.

That's just cruel.

I bet Coach Sumlin keeps his job.

Ha. I think he's a good coach.

IF they do fire him he'll get another job quickly.

biggest fraud in college football, looked good with Manziel pulling plays out of his *** and Sherman's oline full of 1st round draft picks.

various:

Sumlin: is a good coach and great recruiter but he did lose a lot of the offensive system when Manziel/KK left.

Murray and Allen were both top overall QB prospects. Landing both was absurd, losing both is unfathomable. TAMU had one "theoretical" edge in the SEC, QB play. Losing that is a deathknell because the perception changes and now they are losing recruits to Baylor/OU and Houston. It is a weird time for TAMU but they gotta get it right. The SEC is no place to flounder around.

If they do fire Spavital he may well end up in Lubbock. He was the main recruiter for both those QBs and his brother happens to be in Lubbock already coaching.

Herman: He isn't going to Aggieville this year. His buy out plus the Sumlin buyout and a year 1 salary for TH would be almost 50m in 1st year cost. Not gonna happen. They could get Chip in easily enough if they want proven (collegiate) offensive genius. And he recruited Texas very well while at Oregon.

I don't agree!

Because you have good sense:)

Sumlin was very good at Houston and was a large part of winning staffs for a decade.
He likely isn't some genius, but he is a good coach.
He's coached Drew Brees, Case Keenum and Manziel.

He's been coach of the year for his conference 3 times.

He was asst head coach to RC Slocum and Bob Stoops.

No coach is as good as they are perceived amidst a Heisman campaign but they aren't as bad as they look when a freshman QB bombs either:)

So much is about momentum with college football. High School kids have 10 minutes worth of awareness.
Aggies need to make home run hires for any departing coaches.
