Astros still toying w/ Gerit Cole. I like him, but don't love him. His ERA the last 2 year has me worried, but man if he can get healthy, he's a stud. Not sure I'd give up close to what they're asking, but it'd sure be nice to have an innings eater like him.

They give up Whitely or Tucker for Cole and I'd snap.

Not sure about Tucker. They keep talking about potential, but his BA just isn't getting there. What was it last season, I haven't looked it up yet?

Whitely? No way. And for assurance, the Astros have also said NO WAY. He keeps getting mentioned, but the Astros won't put him in the trade.

That was a bargain........ I don't get the Bruce hate .....dude can hit.....95 HRs last 3 years
Low average, strikes out too much, terrible fielder, can't hit lefties.

He's OK, great power, but I wouldn't want him batting higher than 6th in my lineup.

Old school thinking.......Ks and AVG mean less than HRs and OPS

plus 13m is peanuts.......less than the Qualifying Offer for FAs.... 3year deal is fair

Yeah, there is definitely a lot of new stuff to wrap my head around. Still, .249 is .249.

And the real question I have is, can he hit good pitching. That's where the real value comes in. Playoff pitching is a whole new ballgame, and guys who feast on the 4.5 ERA guys but get handcuffed easily by the breaking stuff just don't do you any good when the chips are down.

Remember Tucker is only like 20 years old.

The kid is going to rake.

Yep.

Bruce had an OPS+ of 115, which is decent.

The guy isn't an "Allstar" but for $13 mil a year, he's a decent player.

I will say the Mets are desperate for a "table-setter". A guy who'll get walks, steal a few bases and get on base for guys like Bruce.

astros adding more pieces without giving up their best prospects

Gerrit Cole traded to the astros.

Sorry to see Musgrove and Moran go. Musgrove could end up being a decent #3 starter. No place to put Moran on the Astro team, but I think the guy would be a player. Feliz has tools but don't know if he'll put it together.

Happy that Whitely, Preston and Martes are still with Houston.

Bottom line, the Astros now have arguably the best starting staff in MLB.

It was a steal compared to what they wanted from NYY

They wanted Gleybar Torres and CAdams from what I heard

NYY also pulled 7/160m deal from Darvish after 48 hours

5 years ago Darvish would have received that money.

It appears major league teams are wising up when it comes to giving 30+ yo pitchers 7 year contracts.

I can't believe NY offered it and I can't believe he turned it down

Yeah shoulda jumped all over that deal. I heard Houston was only going to offer him a 4 year deal and darvish wants at least 5.

I was surprised because I thought ny really wants to avoid the luxury tax this year.
