Almost the same number of good snaps he's played at left guard.

Looney is MUCH better than him right now. I have no idea why Looney is backing up Williams. Looney is far better.

Looney isn't backing up Williams. He's backing up Frederick. I don't think he's played a snap at guard this preseason because his strong position is center. You say that Looney is far better, but we haven't seen that at guard. We can't automatically translate how a player plays at one position to another. They have different responsibilities.

Now, Looney will be the gameday backup at guard, but that doesn't mean he's even a better guard than Su'a-Filo. It just saves us a game-day roster space to carry only one tackle and one interior lineman.

I don't know where the myth that Looney is a starting-caliber guard got started, but I suspect it's because he did fill in well at center while Frederick was out. Saying because he played well at center means he'd play well at guard would be almost like saying any good guard can play tackle.

In the only times we've really seen Looney at guard, he was a marginal player, good enough to be a backup but not start. However, I will admit that that was apparently before he worked hard to get in better shape, so he could be better at it now.

On the offensive line, I wouldn't trade anybody because McGovern is still injured, but I wouldn't mind trading Taco or Crawford for an offensive tackle because with Smith's back issues, I am not at all comfortable with just Fleming as our swing tackle
I like this and agree.

Good point that we don't really know how good Looney would be a OG.

Looney did play the 4th quarter of the 49ers game at RG.

He looked OK but that was against 2nd/3rd/4th string DL.

I think the Cowboy want to keep Adam Redmond but don't want to give away Su'a-Filo

I would move McGovern to IR. He can return for game 9 but he can practice starting in week 6.

They could make a deal with a veteran like Alfred Morris where they cut him, move a play to IR, then re-sign Morris with 48 hours.

How many did Byron Jones play at safety before we moved him to CB?????
?

That's not a parallel question.

Shouldn't it be:

And how many snaps has Williams played at right tackle (before moving him to RT)?

And how many snaps has Jones played at CB (before he moved to CB in 2018)?

I hate this... over estimate near the draft. way underestimate all other times. I would rather keep the player. the return is a serious crap shoot.

I wouldn’t trade Taco for less than a 2nd. We s a first rounder on him, have developed him, and a team is getting a guy just starting to come on. No way I give up on that investment, an important backup player, for less than a second. Besides, isn’t Quinn on only a 1 year deal?

Trade a guy only if you are going to release him anyway or if the compensation is more than hay with to you.

Cowboys getting calls about their offensive, defensive linemen
Posted by Charean Williams on August 28, 2019, 4:13 PM EDT

The Cowboys are deep on the offensive line. They’re deep on the defensive line.

Thus, it should come as no surprise that the Cowboys have gotten calls from teams interested in trading for one of the team’s linemen.

“We do get calls on both offensive and defensive lines,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday. “We’ve made that a priority over the years, and it’s a strength of ours, and some teams are interested in it.

“Yeah, I think there’s a possibility for sure that we could move somebody.”

The Cowboys, though, likely will want a draft pick, and not a player, in return.

I wonder if they like Redmond enough to take an offer on Looney. Veteran starting centers don't grow on trees. Someone might want one.

We've got lots of DEs. I'd like to move Crawford, but I don't see enough DT pass rush for next year.

Trade guys if you're going to cut guys almost as good. I think we've more bubble players we want to keep than roster spots for them.

Why can’t we keep everyone?

bc there are only 53 roster spots....haha....

but in reality, there are guys that would be released that would be picked up....so if there is an opportunity to get some type of compensation then its better to get what we can then just let them go....

I think Collins is a real possibility of being moved in a trade soon. We cant keep him. May as well get something now.

i.e. "We in the front office are good and now the rest of the league now knows it" (patting myself on the back) :)
