According to the nfl “Splash” play is defined as a run or pass play for 20 or more yards. Zeke still has 2 so far this year.
Is this not a splash play? I loved it.

Absolutely. I'm not a Z fan and I haven't been impressed. I was simply laughing at the ones who used Cook as the counter. Really funny stuff!!!!
I must have missed all of this . I’ve never seen the “ splash” language used before. It’s just a way to classify big plays. It usually indicates a player’s ability to be explosive. Zeke had 30 SPs in 3 years. This year, 2. Doesn’t mean everything about a RB, but as a RB ages, you always see the SP numbers decline.
Bobhaze is one of my favorite posters, but I'm having trouble believing that the NFL offically recognizes the term "splash plays".I must have missed all of this . I’ve never seen the “ splash” language used before.
Maybe I should clarify...I don’t know if the NFL “officially” uses the term, but it is used all the time by coaches and football writers. I googled it... NFL splash plays . Only thing came up relative to NFL was a Steeler site about defensive plays. I messaged a couple friends. They hadn’t heard of it either.??Bobhaze is one of my favorite posters, but I'm having trouble believing that the NFL offically recognizes the term "splash plays".
Fair enough!!!!!Maybe I should clarify...I don’t know if the NFL “officially” uses the term, but it is used all the time by coaches and football writers. Here is a link to NFL.com team stat page- http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst..._PASSING&d-447263-s=PASSING_20PLUS_YARDS_EACH
You can see the column for 20+ Yards and 40+ yards. Those are usually called “splash plays” by many of the football people I listen to....Bob Sturm, Josh Sharp, David Moore.
I read Moore’s column Fairly often . And watch him on Garrett’s Sunday morning show. Don’t recall hearing it. I don’t listen to Sturn often or Sharp.Maybe I should clarify...I don’t know if the NFL “officially” uses the term, but it is used all the time by coaches and football writers. Today on the Ticket’s Cowboys pre-game, there was a discussion of Zeke’s lack of Splash plays.
I don’t feel so bad now. My friends hadn’t either.Fair enough!!!!!
I had really never taken the term seriously. Interesting stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!
Few years ago several on the site had never seen the WR's referred to by numbers, as in a #1, #2, and #3 WR. And also didn't understand the difference between a #2/3 WR and a #2/3 option.I read Moore’s column Fairly often . And watch him on Garrett’s Sunday morning show. Don’t recall hearing it. I don’t listen to Sturn often or Sharp.
Thanks for enlightening us to new slang.
He was barely used as a pass catcher in college. Its still not an excuse not to use him in passing game
So Zeke can't catch right? Pretty sure that was one of his positives coming into the league.
Jones has a 67 yard reception this year.Dude tony pollards biggest run is like 2 yards longer than Zekes. The RB from Green Bay longest run is 16 yards. Y'all are delusional man.
One problem is our offensive line is no where near as good as people think it is.
In fact it's very overrated
Circular argument. That's what I thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Been there!!! Me too!!!!Kskboys - My apologies for coming across harsh in my response. I was having a bad day. All the best my friend!
Especially when they are fat!!!!!!!!!!!!!All RBs do not age the same . Its a brutal position and special care and training must be adhered to if any type of longevity is expected even then its a crap shoot
10yr careers are the exception not the rule 5-6 yrs is probably more the average
Splash plays are defined as a play of 20 yards or more. It used to be one of the defining parts of Ezekiel Elliott’s game as a RB. He used to always be at the top of the league in SPs.
In fact between 2016-2018, Zeke had 30 splash plays, averaging about 10 a year. In 2019 so far, Zeke has had a grand total of 2 splash plays. One run and one catch.
Why is this happening? Dak’s game has certainly improved. The overall offensive numbers have improved. On the other hand, Zeke’s big play production has fallen off the table.
Is it the OL not being as effective as it once was? Or has Zeke lost some tread on the tires?
One thing is certain. The way this team is built, if Zeke Elliott is no longer a threat to break one at any moment, defenses have a much easier job. This team’s future hopes for playoff time probably hinges on some Zeke revival.
Does it start today?
