That's the excuse A&M is giving, they are scapegoating. The truth is that very powerful people involved with TAMU have wanted to do this for a long time. Frankly it's the best move for them. They are gonna say it was because of the LHN but it goes WAY beyond that.

If this was untrue OU wouldn't have turned down the SEC just a few weeks ago to stay.

What would A&M gain from going to the SEC really, though? The SEC is an even TOUGHER conference and even though A&M is a pretty decent team, they will NEVER win anything over there. The only real explanation is the LHN. The LHN is basically a giant "**" to all of the other Texas state schools. It gives the Longhorns a huge advantage in coverage and recruiting.

All about the all mighty dollar and getting out of the shadow of Texas. My point is they aren't leaving just because of Texas or the longhorn network. They are leaving because it's the most prestigious college football conference with the richest TV contract. I doubt they would go to the big east or MWC just because of texas

This whole post is full of

In my head? Only you decided to mention Texas and use it to make a potshot at Nebraska, in reply to a post that did not even mention, nor hint at Texas. So really, who is in whose head? You got it twisted, bruh.

I mean, like you said, we have accomplished nothing for a decade, and you have dominated us for over a decade. But yet you decided to respond to me when I even mentioned a team that should be irrelevant to your school and their greatness.

But you're in my head. :laugh2:

Nebraska IS in my head, much like if I had a girlfriend who was rich and gave me lots of money and she broke up with me! I miss you guys and beating you guys constantly even after embarrassing "red around the world" and "beat Texas" crap from last year!

COME BAAAAAACK TO ME BABY!!!!

Well, they did! The Longhorn Network has everyone in the conference hopping mad. That's really the catalyst driving all of this IMO.
you mean the network that all the schools voted to let happen?

They are saying Texas A&M AND Missouri to SEC west, and Clemson and Florida State to SEC East.

Anyone hear this?

A couple years before the tea sips started up that network they went to tamu and asked them to form a shared network....

Yes, Dodds drove to BFE Bryan/College Station and (assuredly had Dixie Chicken and banged a sheep or two). Tamu declined to participate.

The tea-sips are undoubtedly greedy but tamu is clearly run by complete dolts.

They finally field a quality Big 12 football team, plus excel across the board in sports iand academics in 2010 and want to run off to the dirt poor south east and play teams who live for nothing but college football? They want to recruit in Texas with 5 and 6 win seasons and no games against Texas opponents? They want to maintain a tu rivalry game PLUS play a SEC schedule? They want to compete with SEC schools that allow football players on campus that can barely read and write? Are these guys just plain mentally challenged? Did anyone bother to tell them they have lost 6 games in a row to SEC foes and haven't beaten a single SEC foe in football since 1995?

Let me start off saying I am not an Aggie per say. I don't really have a team I am devoted to in college as I graduated from a school that didn't have a football team. I'm just a fan of the sport in general.

To the folks that are saying that A&M is going to get crushed... you are right. They will be demolished the first couple years, but that's not the point.

They are moving for two reasons. 1) Stability 2) Future growth.

The Big 12 is going to fall, one way or another. A&M can jump ship now or let the SEC ship sail and hope someone else picks them up out of the water when the Big 12 finally sinks.

4-5 years down the road A&M, with their influence in the state of Texas and the exposure the SEC will give them, will definitely become a force in the SEC. I'm not saying they are going to destroy Alabama or Florida, but they will compete faster than people think.

Also - the Longhorns have a long history of looking out for themselves... and the Longhorn Network is no different. A&M going to the SEC isn't them 'sticking it' to Texas, it's them looking out for their own. The 'sticking it' to Texas is just an added bonus to Aggie fans.

The problem with your statement is none of that is true.

The Big 12 will fold when other conferences can and will offer more money.
Right now none can or will.

The Big 12 has the 2nd richest tv contract of all the conferences ---and allows teams to keep their own tv rights. In fact for the SEC to offer anything more than the 2 mil per year LESS than TAMU gets now they have to add 3 teams and restructure tv deals. Those deals run thru 2023/24 just like the Big 12 deal.

TAMU is like a mean little brother. They really have no purpose without the big brother to harass.

TAMU is NOT going to compete in the SEC.
You do NOT lose for 3 or 4 years and recruit BETTER. You do not play less games in Texas and recruit better. Yes, they can probably keep an SMU game. But why would any other Texas school play them? Why give them any mention at all once they leave. Treat them like the outcast they want to be and tell recruits how many games they lose each year. It would be over.

TAMU is a solid financial institution. They actually require decent academics to enroll. Anyone ever checked how hard it is to get into most of those SEC schools?

If a kid wants to play in the SEC tamu just gives them another victory. They will assist the non-texas teams in the SEC while killing their own recruiting.

I do not mind them leaving but I do hate faulty logic and this will hurt them.

So aggie getting crushed in the SEC is going to help them steal recruits from OU and Texas?

When A&M is getting crushed by teams like Florida, Alabama, and Auburn and Texas is playing teams like Baylor, Rice, and Iowa State.... yes.

I agree they are too obsessed... I live in Austin and I like both of them. Two great Universities that can both thrive on their own...

I wish A&M would drop the first line in their fight song... It's very petty...

So is Texas petty as well?

"Texas fight, Texas fight, and it's goodbye to A&M"

The majority of the "big" Texas recruits that don't stay in Texas or go to OU go to SEC schools. LSU, Alabama, and Florida's national title teams of the last five years were all made up of rosters that contained at least seven players from Texas. Auburn had six Texas players on their team last year. Every single SEC school except Vanderbilt started at least one Texas player in a game last year. What do all of those schools have in common? None are a flagship institution of the state of Texas. To think that a Texas school in the SEC won't have pull with Texas recruits is insane. Will A&M pull in top 5 classes every year? No, but don't be surprised when Mack Brown is forced to lie and deny that he ever offered a few more recruits tha normal in the coming years.

Texas A&M's best recruiting class of the last 10 years was in 2005, after winning a total of sixteen games in the previous three seasons. Florida had a top 5 recruiting class immediately following the Ron Zook years. Notre Dame has had numerous top 10 recruiting classes in the last 15 years despite being virtually irrelevant for the majority of that time.

It is cute to see all the Horns fans chant about how the Aggies won't compete and need not go to the SEC. You think competing actually matters right now? The Aggies haven't been able to compete in the Big 12 since it started. They will be trading OU and UT in the Big 12 South for Alabama, Auburn and LSU in the SEC West. They already cannot compete for conference titles so nothing is changing. In basketball they trade Kansas for Kentucky. In baseball they will get stomped. They aren't winning any national titles (in those sports) as it is so I don't mind the change so long as they get into the post season and win a few games.

not only that....but they also leave the Big 12 for a conference with low academic standards, except for Vanderbilt...

a monkey could get a Ph.D at an SEC school.

i guess now the Aggie War Hymn and Texas Fight will be a farewell instead of a I just kicked ur butt now go home and wait till next year.....

Goodbye to Texas University...so long to the orange and white

And its goodbye to A&M

Wow, dirt poor? Maybe in real life but not in college football. Everyone knows the SEC is the best league in the country.

Better to have a smaller house in the best, most exclusive neighborhood than the biggest house in an average one.

I hate to think about what will happen to Tech and Baylor and even Oklahoma, but this will be good for A&M for all the reasons others have posted.

Florida and UGA have high academic standards as well.

So it looks like Texas A&M to the SEC is NOT going to happen.

SEC says it is sticking to 12 members for now. I imagine this is mostly just to cover butts, though.

The Southeastern Conference says it's sticking with its 12-school membership for now.

A statement from University of Florida President Bernie Machen, the chairman of the league's presidents and chancellors committee, says the group met Sunday and "reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment."

Machen says no action was taken regarding Texas A&M or any other schools.

However, Machen didn't close the door on future growth. He says the group talked about the criteria and process associated with expanding should the league choose to grow in the future.

The Aggies are reportedly seeking to leave the Big 12. The Texas A&M System board of regents has a meeting slated for Monday that includes an agenda item about conference alignment.
