Oh, wait.

Seriously though. In the year 2012, announcing one's sexual orientation does seem passe.
It's borderline narcissistic.

I wish to have a headline with my name in it announcing that I like mint choclate chip ice cream.
I mean, who the heck cares?

I expect that young men and women who are struggling with their own sexuality care. I expect that they care a whole bunch. Seeing someone in the mainstream who is like themselves can be very important.

Exactly

I never really thought about his sexual orientation. When I saw the announcement, I thought, yeah ok. Who cares?

How on earth are the "telling you what they are doing?" I don't think AC stood up and detailed the sexual acts he was engaged in.

Oh how funny, how naive, ... it doesn't take much imagination to know what two men do. He said he was homosexual, what do you think that means?

The idea that what they are doing is wrong is something you are going to need to get over.

No it's not, I will never change my thinking on that.

Evidently a few do. :laugh2:

Personally I don't care, now I admit I don't like hanging around flaming queens with their flamboyant ways, I don't hang around eagle fans either. :laugh2:

It many ways you're right.

But when are we going to hear of a professional athlete, while working in the profession, make an announcement like this?

Out of all the players in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL and we do not have one single person who admits they're homosexual?

We know they're not all heterosexual.

Did not say they were not unbiased only saying what true journalism is and it has become a lost art. Anderson Cooper being gay does not mean a thing unless he is now going to give us the news according to those who are gay.

There is much more to ones life than simply what their work is. He is now a well known gay person. This thread was started three hours ago and is on it's 6th page. Anderson Coopers simple coming out of the closet has already stirred up more debate on gay rights or the topics surrounding gay people. It is obviously not meaningless and is already having an effect as you can see. I'm willing to bet he has a political life he keeps separate from work as well. Hell, I bet you can find previous cases of Cooper supporting gay rights on CNN.

Actually, there is considerable variability in what "two men do" -- and, I hate to have to tell you, heterosexuals engage in the same sexual behaviors.

Your characterization of homosexuality as wrong is the sort of judgement that drives massively high suicide rates for young gay people. I'd sure hate to have that on my shoulders, particularly after all the "judge not" talk

Whatever floats his boat.

I just mind my business, I don't care whos pushin the cushin with who.

Which is yet another reason why we should not splash it all over the news as normal. No wonder kids are confused.

I don't judge, and I don't hate, .. but I will never compromise the Truth because some sector of society is accepting.

Again I don't care what he does I do find it troubling that when news people start giving news based on their own bias opinions.

Are you getting the news or do you think you are getting their own slanted view? If Copper wants to do this good for him does not mean much to me.

I know some people who are gay I could careless about that I like them for who they are not who they go to bed with. Now as I said I do feel uncomfortable with those who want to flaunt a life style be they gay or some other life choice

Kids are confused because people want to keep telling them that things that are normal are deviant. That's why kids are confused.

Also, confusing, why those who are not supposed to judge do so on such a regular basis.

So wouldn't this suggest that it is even more important to know what a newperson's "bias" is? That would allow you to judge the source of the information much more effectively. It isn't like he was any less gay a few days ago.

Haha I agree with you man; I'm just analyzing the situation. I think his decision will carry political weight in the gay world. I'm not questioning what you believe or anything like that. I'm just simply analyzing the situation. I like to get my news from multiple sources that way I can try and figure out my own view on the story if I am looking for an opinion; but I can recognize when it is slanted.

Uh oh. This things seems to be drifting into a religion thread.
Duck!

I hope not.

But it will be interesting when the first active Dallas Cowboy player annouces to the world they are homosexual.

Some will take it in stride.

Others...

Not so much.

No a professional would always make the story about the facts both sided of the fact and allow the reader or viewer to make up their own mind. It is about removing yourself from the story completely and any personal bias you have. His being gay or straight should play no role in it at all, if you truly are dedicated to your profession. If you are an architect should how you design buildings be based on your sexual preference? How about a doctor? Should he treat patients based on his sexual preference or his medical skills?

As for Copper personal life that is what I think it should be personal between himself and his friends and family.
