Are we fooling ourselves hitching our wagon to Tony Romo?

No one in the NFL gets handed a job. If Ray was good enough the entire Jets offensive staff and players would have been squawking that he wasn't in ther einstead of Q.

I don't buy this spin control. Finding new ways to try and convince me are a waste of your time and mine.

I will watch him. As I said, I do pay attention to the CFL. I doubt he shows me anything this year that I haven't seen the last 2.

I can name 20 QBs I'd rather go with over him and most are college.
Fair enough, check him out this year in the new offense and see what you think.

I think you guys are misunderstanding phildo's point...

Checking out the NFL stats for Ricky Ray, you may or may not find out that maybe, just maybe he can play in the NFL. He has before, so his experience will help him if he comes back...

Check out his NFL stats...

or maybe not...

About the same as Romo's stats before he got a legit shot. LOL

Perhaps Ray can be coached up. He's getting a new offensive coordinator in Edmonton this year who is supposed to be great. He's coming over from the B.C. Lions. Look for a big year from Ricky Ray.
Last night when I went to bed this thread was dying. Threads do that. People get tired of the subject and want to move on.

This morning when I got up I made myself a silent bet that the thread was dead all night long, and that either you or The Prophet would revive it some time today.

Logged on early this morning. Still dead.

I get to work, you've revived it.

It's like clockwork. I can practically predict the next thread and topic.

Okay, to respond. Maybe he can be "coached up." I hope some other team wastes their time trying. If he ever gets a shot in the NFL again, which I doubt.

Romo has been competing for this job since he came to Dallas, he has seen guys come in and seen them leave. He has worked his tail off to get into the position that he has earned and when he got the starting job he performed better than many of the QB's with so called pedigree. Like it or not Romo is the starting QB on this team and other than his backup being added to the team Dallas is set at QB. Only question remaining is what kind of contract and length of contract are the Cowboys and Romo discussing. Romo paid his dues

Yes, I have seen him play.

No, I don't buy the Carter was handed anything nonsense.

At one time I was intrigued by him. That was 2 and a half years ago when he first dreamed of playing in the NFL.

I have seen him since he bombed out of the NFL as I do on occasion watch the CFL. I think he has too many bad habits ot ever do squat at this level. He throws too many interceptions in the CFL to ever give credence to him in the NFL.

And like I said, he couldn't beat out Quincy Carter. That told me all I needed to know.
Keep in mind that at one time you were intrigued by Ray, yourself. What was it then that got your attention? Nothing has really changed.

Nothing except being 3rd string to an injured Chad Pennington and Quincy Carter one year. The next year when both of those roadblocks are out of his way he wasn't even good enough to get hsi shot over guys like Jay Fiedler, Brooks Bollinger, Kliff Kingsbury, and Vinny Interceptaverde.

No thanks.

For variuos reasons the Jets weren't the right team for the guy. It happens. He requested and was granted his release. He wanted to play, not ride the bench. Plus, he signed the CFL's largest contract upon his return. Watch him this year for amusement, if nothing else.

I Love Romo but i sure would love some insurance in case this year for Romo was a fluke or defenses just figure him out...

Competition for Romo is not a bad thing either.

And it's not like he has a long grocery list of things to work on either. He mainly has to avoid the fumbles.

I'm certainly not advocating giving up on him or anything but I thought he seemed to struggle a little bit towards the end of the year when teams contained him to the pocket. Didn't always seem to be able to find a receiver, even a couple times when there was one open. Probably not a big deal though.

True but there is a difference in a team bringing in a backup and someone they feel is a starter. The money difference would be a factor between backup QB and starting QB

I think most QB's are going to have problems is they are getting pressure up the middle and the ends are containing them on the outside. That leaves very little for the QB to work with in terms of protection. Dallas needs to do a better job up front. Hopefully replacing Rivera will help in this

For me, Romo just doesn't have enough skins on the wall to hand him the starting job.

I bring in the best QB I can find that fits the budget, and open the competition, and may the best man win.

and isn't it funny he couldn't stick w/ the Jets, noone believed he could get it stick anywhere else, and that's why he landed back in the CFL? I'm sure if Ray was this highly regarded QB, as you say he is, he would have found a job somewhere else

Hand him the starting job? Romo took over the job because he earned it no one handed him the job. As for bringing in another QB there is a difference in going out and getting a backup QB and bringing in a QB expected to start and I doubt Dallas is going to make that type of investment and sign Romo to a new contract.
