Are we in a better place with McCarthy?

My concern is we could easily get someone worse than MM as our next HC.
We haven't been to a Super bowl for 28 years.
Is that MM's fault??
Well McCarthy's team did knock the Cowboys two best teams of the past decade out of the playoffs in 2014 and 2016 so .. uh yeah.. a lot of it IS his fault! At least the last 4 years plus 2014 and 2016. So he is to blame for 6 of the years of failure!

In his last 6 years of coaching he's won one playoff game.
The Tampa one.

Let that sink in.

McCarthy groupies are funny.
Not as bad as Dak bots but close.

At this point It's like either one is interchangeable.
Mike Prescott or Dak McCarthy.
Take your choice.

They both suck at playoff football.
Period.

Yeah I have never been a change just to be changing kind of guy. If you can improve then improve.. and it's going to be pretty damn had to improve on three straight 12 win seasons and a couple of division titles.. Not saying it can't be done.. but there is not going to be a ton of guys out there who will be a step up from McCarthy.

He had Aaron Rodgers who knocked the Cowboys off those two years. Had he had a lesser QB, the Cowboys would’ve likely won both games. They went down to the wire and Rodgers pulled the rug right out from under us in the final minutes of both games. Most of what’s going on is the Joneses fault. We’re seeing the same problems under McCarthy that we saw under the previous head coaches. Our last six head coaches haven’t won a divisional round game and have a grand total of only four playoff wins. Every time we change head coaches it’s the same results in the playoffs. Penalties and the defense has been a problem under every head coach we’ve had the past 20+ years.

I remember when he beat a Romo-Garrett team with Matt Flynn, who was awful.

Matt Flynn wasn’t awful that day. When you looked at the stat line, you would’ve thought Rodgers was the QB. Flynn had almost 300 yards and 4 TD passes. To this day we still make average QBs look like Hall of Famers. Joshua Dobbs had a 120.0 passer rating against us last season. I’ve lost track of the average QBs that had career days against us. Flynn, Colt McCoy, Mitch Trubisky, Josh McCown, and Sam Darnold all lit us up. Nothing changes regardless the head coach we have. Even when we had Parcells, our defense sucked in the playoffs.

Hard to be in a better place with any head coach when Jerry undermines everyone of them.

He's a better coach than the RHG for sure. But thats not enough to overcome the Jones factor. As a lame duck this year I expect a major collapse.

Sounds like good coaching to get that out of Matt Flynn.

Agreement, in degrees... he is much more than competent and middle of the pack. He has made a very good turnaround from the Red days. Mostly, he's figured a way to deal with a mostly incompetent GM and son - while building a solid team that performs for one another and performs well. 12-5. 3 times. Enjoy the journey.
Grossly underrated by the fans.

Yeah.

Jason Garrett was beyond awful. I can’t believe I actually had to argue that point on this forum.

He is single handedly the worst thing that ever happened to the Cowboys franchise and easily Jerry Jones worst decision as an owner and he’s had some doozies.
Wellllllll, 2nd to Jerry taking over as GM!!!!

One thing we can be sure of is that MM will be given 2024 to demonstrate what he can do with a team that's cursed with our FO. Stay tuned to get yet more info as to what to expect with what we have w/MM's coaching skills or the lack thereof. Be aware that his FO support is highly inexistent.

Absolutely.

We actually outcoach teams and Dak is clearly better for being with McCarthy.

But

Dak or McCarthy should’ve been gone after the playoff debacle.

The Cowboys have a big problem about being terrified of change.

Continuity is not a good thing in the NFL unless you’re actually winning.
Absolutely. Why? Because Jerry does not possess the NFL brainpower to change anything and rebuild back bigger and better. He's NFL dumb.

It was a result of him going up against a defense that routinely falters against average QBs. The Packers didn’t even have a good team that year they were 8-7-1. Flynn was 2-3.

4 years out of 28. Got it.
Blaming MM for Jason Garrett's losses in 2014 and 2016 is skewed reasoning in my book.
No way will jerruh hire someone better.
Hope you enjoy less than what we have now.

Yep, indelibly linked. Then again, Mike did try and incorporate this TCO to overcome what he must of seen as a weakness in the offense/Dak's implementation of the offense. But again those pesky 9'ers created the near perfect counter punch, reverting to a press secondary and yet again Dak's composure went as he had to get out of the arm chair.

That’s always the best measurement of a HC or any Mgmt or leadership. Are we in a better place than when you arrived?

There’s probably an argument to be made for both sides .

When MM came in most fans felt anything would be an improvement from Garrett. And an experienced proven SB winner was definitely what many ordered or had hoped for .

In many ways we are in a better place . 3 straight 12 win seasons. A couple division titles and first time since 90’s 3 consecutive playoff appearances. But only 1 playoff win and still no championship game appearances .

It appears we have built an overall better or more talented team. But the disappointment and frustration in playoffs continues.

So, what is your take. Are we in a better place with McCarthy than 4 years ago?
Three 12 - 5 seasons in a row, yet you have to ask, G?
