Carr at this new number is certainly more tolerable.

But you have to chuckle that you've heard that the Cowboys were looking to upgrade the secondary this offseason and heading into the draft we just brought back the exact same secondary.

LOL.

Well, we haven't had the draft yet. I'm not sure anybody expected them to sign an expensive FA. They got Mo back, Carr renegotiated, and they're getting Scandrick back. They're looking hard at Ramsey, and if they don't get him, you can bet they'll bring in a DB or two elsewhere. That's a fair amount of work for one position group in an offseason.

There were cheaper moves to be made than just signing a high priced guy.

Two rookies is not a fair amount of work upgrading the secondary especially if one isn't Ramsey or even a 2nd round pick.

Two rookies, extending a vet, and getting a vet who missed last year back, but who's counting. Agree to disagree in general re: DBs.

Now, if you'd have said 'QB,' I'd have agreed with you. No matter what they add as a rookie. They've done nothing, and it's a bigger position of need.

in my mind ramsey is a better safety than corner. I will take earl thomas at safety then morris claiborne at corner. I would draft ramsey if u think he will be a dynamic/game changing safety like eric berry was or earl thomas is.

A couple of ways to take this news...1) Dallas doesn't expect Ramsey to make it to #4 or 2) should Ramsey drop to them he will be paired with B. Jones at Safety.
Or, this has absolutely no impact on our draft.

Is there some secret that nobody's told me? Perhaps an asteroid is due to destroy the Earth right after this football season?

The pay cut was necessary just to maintain credibility with everyone else....you can't play hardball with every player and then let a guy like Carr walk with 9m a year and be ranked 80th at his position...esp after Free, Hardy, Melton and Claiborne...

I wonder if at all affects a Ramsey choice.
IT SURE SHOULDN'T, but you never know...some back room agreement not to take him in exchange for a pay cut. lol
Tin foil cap firmly in place:laugh:

The 1m roster bonus payable May 1st is interesting though...to me that says if they cut him before then he gets nothing but if they keep him after the draft they probably will keep him all year....

Theyre not going to cut Carr now regardless. The Cowboys had leverage before the draft knowing many teams would fill cb needs shortly. Carr looked at as there is a possibility dallas gets Ramsey makes him expendable, then hes stuck accepting a 2 to 3 million a year deal. Good move by the Cowboys and Carr to insure hes here atleast 1 more season.

The timing is perfect. Leave teams wondering. Makes it a tad harder for San Diego to trade out.

So many on here have been pretty nasty when talking about Carr. But he's always been a stand up guy. People tend to dehumanize players/coaches/celebrities.

No one is nasty for his off field stuff. On field stuff is a different story.

To me, there isn't a doubt in my mind that Ramsey is who the team really likes. If the Chargers don't snap him up, I think he's a Cowboy.

In the draft press conference today, Garret made a point of saying that he "leaps" off the tape and (unprompted) that they believe he can play corner and safety just as well.

Seems like CB has been lowered on the need list.

Which to me means we are dropping back in the draft and not using our #4.

At least not on a DB.

Think they are going DL but back around middle of the first.

As long as we get something decent to add to the defense..that's fine.

What if those two rookies are 4th and 6th round picks? You think that's an upgrade?

Extending a vet from what was a mediocre secondary isn't something I would be celebrating as part of improving the secondary.

I agree

To go 1-11 without Romo and then proceed to do absolutely nothing to upgrade the position seriously makes me question their intelligence

Maybe Garrett really is as dumb as 90% of this board thinks

I would expect Frederick extension soon. Maybe right after draft.
