That's Cobb's best year and he mostly played in the slot. It yielded him a 10 million / per year contract. Now do the math with Bryant and see that he's doubled Cobb in career TDs.

Also I still say Cobb took a discount, and people are using this number as a baseline?

If its based on talent, Bryant gets close to CJ deal. However, he still has things that crop up from time to time that scare the heck out a franchise wanting to invest long term money on a deal they can't get out of. Cobb is a boy scout.

My guess is Cobb could have gotten $11m..... maybe $11.5 or $12m had he left GB and took a deal from the Raiders and Jaguars -- both who have tons of cap space.

Sure he could have. But then he'll be playing just to have a .500 season and may never be heard of again because you just don't know how their QB will develop. They may also just cut you because production dropped off the cliff because you don't have a QB to getting you the ball.

Right and those guys I mentioned: Jackson, Maxwell, and McCourty aren't even superstar status but are getting paid no matter what. So I don't see why people are balking at the thought of giving Bryant more guaranteed money. Fans would love it if he took a home town discount, but I don't expect any player to do so.

All those players are free agents and by that very fact will be over payed. Dallas has leverage on Dez and should try to get a discount. He is making less than 13 per year right now, why pay him 14 or 16 million when we can franchise him for another year if we need to. I love Dez, but we are playing this the right way.

Would the cowboys ever pay 2 WR that much money?NO WAY. keep Romo all his weapons.meaning bring back both Dez and Murray.Jerry has the money to do it. and he needs to use some of that money.

7/88m with 28m guaranteed would be more than fair for both. He could probably see the whole deal.

Long term deal to reduce his cap number this year and maybe next year, and go after a free agent pass rusher or Murray... yeah that other guy we need as well.

We can get plenty of money towards free agency simply by restructuring Tyron's contract. We don't have to sign Dez to a long term deal. Also, when we sign a backloaded contract, it just increases the likelihood that he is released later.

And that whole thing affects the cap this year, right? I'm not a salary cap expert. How much usually affects the cap if he signs a long term deal? For example, a long term deal for $14 mil a year would have a $7 mil cap hit in 2015?

Dallas seems ready to go after a passrusher, even with Dez franchised.

yes once its signed it takes effect. But it hasnt been signed yet so they can still negotiate.

On a long term deal say Dallas gives him a 7yr deal with 35mil SB Dallas would have a cap hit on the prorated SB of 5mil. Dallas could give him a low base salary that first yr like a mil and his total cap charge would be 6mil in the first yr.

You are probably right. I would hate to have Demaryius Thomas drive the price up or Julio and AJ Green drive the price up next year.

Exacty,! Cut everyone and give Dez the entire cap and put him out there by himself, he's that good!

Stop it. they don't have to cut anyone to pay Dez what he has earned.give the man the long term deal. and give him 30 million up front.

I'm actually pissed . GB losing him wouldve really hurt them. I think it's them or us going to the Super Bowl .

That's one way of looking at it.

The other way to look at it is that the Packers panicked.

Edelman signed this past year for 4 years $19m ($4.8m per year). Welker signed for 2 years $12m ($6m a year) two years ago with the Broncos.

Yes, Cobb is a better player than those guys when healthy, however, is he twice as good as those guys, especially considering he has missed time 2 out of the last 3 years?

I personally think they should have stuck to their guns, let someone else pay Cobb $9+. They have Davonte Adams waiting in wings and they could have drafted someone.

You cannot compare Cobb's deal to Dez SMH... You people are hilarious. Dez is top 2 in the NFL, pay him his money. He won't sign for anything under $40-50 million guaranteed.

Cobb is not in Dez's stratosphere...

I'm afraid he is, especially in GB. He is one of a dozen top WRs in the League.

CJohnson, JJones, Dez, DThomas, ABrown, AJGreen, Jordy, RCobb, TYHilton, DJackson......etc and then there are the rookies

Dez is great and I love him in Dallas, but let's not pretend he is irreplaceable at any cost.
