As an outsider, I think this is actually a good call. Kudos Jerry. (Not even a Brer Briarpatch comment, actually mean it.)

1. You had a good team in 2023 and were expected to be very competitive this year. Things didn't work out in 2024, but no reason to blow things up.

2. Dak is not Tom Brady (but who is). But he's an above average QB. And there are plenty of teams who would take him as an upgrade.

2. continued. Dak got the big contract because that was his free market value at that time. Agents are good at figuring out value and teams are good at figuring out the market value also. Yes, even if it never enters a formal auction stage. There's all kinds of illegal tampering going on, even just to get insights on price points. Smart people are looking at this stuff. "Cheap Jerry" didn't just do the big contract for no reason as a giveaway. (It's like buying mineral rights in the last undeveloped parcel of the sweet spot of Mountrail County, ND. You gotta pay for prestige property.) It was that or Dak walked. He had the value. Kirk Cousins has done the same over the years.

2. even more continued. Given he is a decent QB AND you are stuck with his contract AND cutting him would accelerate several years of cap hit AND you're not positioned for that...it makes all the sense in the world to stick with Dak for another couple years AND to keep a similar offensive system. Doesn't stop from drafting new QBs as low priced competition or insurance. But you won't be in the high end FA market for QBs. You already have that on staff. You don't have the money for two. So...stick with Dak and make it work.

3. Given all the above, sticking with known commodities makes all kinds of sense. Schotty will be fine. He has loads of experience (not just the continuity, but he's an experienced guy around the league). And if he has any of the genes of his dad, he'll be an above average coach, no problem.

4. Don't default to blowing things up and swinging for the fences. Super Bowl or bust. That is what the Browns have done for decades. Just try to get better iteratively. Occasionally more major changes are needed. But not as often as the linving-in-the-moment fans want.
Good take.

try to settle everyone down with logic.

Oh, I am not saying I agree with it at all. I do not like it. I think the entire process was lame, lazy, and possibly predetermined.

But I am not going to spend all my time whining about it either. I have better things to do. Life goes on, at least my life does.

I can care less what National Organization think. It is their job to be like some on here, be CRITICAL. National Organizations in the media have been crap for the past 20 years or more, led by BSPN. Heck they been crap longer than the Cowboys have been to their last SB.
Fans will love with them when they share the same thoughts. I just watched something on ESPN and they pretty much summed it up. A head scratcher from the fans POV.
And it is. Well, more head scratching. Fans have been doing that for quite a while.

But it doesn't mean I am going to sit here and post what they said in every thread, 5 different times in that thread.
Here is the thing.

Jerry. His dumb sons. Made a hire that 31 other teams wouldn’t have made, they hired a career failure who hasn’t called plays in his time here, hasn’t had a top 5 offense in his life, and is now going to have a FO who doesn’t spend money, and drags their feet on extensions so they can play broken peasant with the fans.

Jerry is hoping to catch lightning in a bottle when 31 other teams are trying to improve. Dallas is the only NFC team not to make a championship game in the last century.

Ya think he would wise up and say “maybe I’m the problem here”?

Nope he triples down on it and doesn’t even leave the star to interview anyone. Aaron Glenn was the perfect hire. Didn’t call him. Vrabel was there, nope we need to keep attention and deny the bears request.

This organization has turned into a joke for the media and the other teams in the league.

Where’s Moore ?
Will be interesting to see what happens. Reality is his current OC job for a top notch organization loaded with offensive talent is light years better than HC here where you are humiliated and undermined by the owner on a daily basis. I bet he gets offered an HC job somewhere in the next couple years.

The best thing that could happen for us fans is that 212 people tune in to the thing on Monday.

Dislike the move? Speak with your wallets and eyeballs, or just suck it up and enjoy the sad, cheap ride.
That number is oddly specific.

We all know this will never happen.
I have said for a long time.
They think they outsmart everyone, but they really out dumb themselves.
They think everyone buys into their sales pitch. And part of that is the media are afraid to ask the tough questions, and to openly criticize.
He has, not just the local media afraid, but some national media members also.

They fans do not buy it, and more and more are seeing the light. But fans are not taken serious, and the fans tough questions never make it to them, nor do they care.

I have times it seems I defend the FO. But only in certain situations. But overall, they are very disappointing and egotistical.

Ultimately the guy could be a great HC. Jeffery Lurie hired 4 less known guys that were not viewed as top candidates (Ray Rhodes, Andy Reid, Doug Pedersen and Sirianni) and one high profile coach (Chip Kelly). Kelly was the worst of that group but he was the can’t miss candidate.
In reality even if BS is great you may never know due to the GM.

The worst part is that its a 4 year deal.

I really want Schotty to do well. He seems like a good guy. Not qualified for the job and it's possible we'll have to stick it out for 4 years cause Jones is too cheap to fire someone.

Dallas hiring former players and coaches familiar with the team is pretty much what the Patriots have been doing.

So as an outsider, will you trade for Dak (we'll sort out his NTC).
Dak's extension and Schott's internal promotion just exacerbates this insular viewpoint.... interesting that you mention 'genes' because one of the biggest problems is that the gene pool is diluted due to continual 'love of our own'.
This just smacks of the ultimate rinse and repeat....made so much more infuriating because:
a) we had the chance to draw a line after the 2023 season, see out 2024 (where we reset) and re-evaluate.
b) there were many innovative/interesting you coaches with successful CV's available....and we go for the late night announcement of an insider. That doesn't give any encouragement....from the media seeking Jerry.

The same length as Dak's got left.

We all know exactly how this is going to play out, time after time after time. The issue is the owner, does not matter who coaches. I would of been nice to have some hope tho

This line cracks me up:

"Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant," Jones told ESPN. "He ain't Brian no more. He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys."

That’s akin to saying “I don’t care that everyone thinks you’re dumb. I still love you.”

Nothing has changed, guys. We still have the same GM, Coach, and assistants we've had for the last 28 years.

I said it before and will say it again. Ben Johnson was the only head coach hire that would excite me for next year. I am not surprised, but very disappointed. I already don't care about next year or the coming years. I have been passionate about this team my entire life, but a bet a lot of you are with me that we have taken too many years of blows with stupid decisions.
