You are right. We may have to grab the best available in the 3rd. Late 5th (expected Comp pick) may be too late.
At 87 you are likely looking at names like Irving, Estime, maybe Corum slides there, maybe Benson?

People in here are still absolutely clueless on how important it is to run the football

All you data needs has a heart attack when SF traded for CMC. How’s that working out for you bozos?

They have to bring in a vet TB and not a Ronald Jones type. That's stupid. You also don't go and pay out the *** for Josh Jacobs either.

But if the plan is to roll with Dowdle, some Ronald Jones type and a mid round pick in what isn't the strongest TB draft.......... whew boy.
so which is it???? lol I agree with the first line of yours

let me take it somewhere else real quick (don't get mad at me like you usually do), the RB position is de-valued in terms of what they want to pay them. If you were a runner, would you want to run really hard for a team, KNOWING that your pay won't be as great as others have been. I mean if you're not worried about all that and have a career like CMC they have to pay you!!

And to do so you need a run blocking OL and a good RB. Starting quality. We have neither.
like the good running teams have, let me ask you this. On all those GOOD running teams, are they paying their Qb's a lot of money, in dallas if you're being paid a lot of money the ball is yours. In other words are we paying dak lots of money to hand it off (YES we know it would benefit him tremendously to keep the ball out of his hands)

Good. There are plenty of good RBs in this draft.

Guys like Brooks, Benson and Allen could walk in and instantly transform this backfield.
Really? Ever check the stats on rookie RBs and how many make it? There is no guarantee that any of those 3 will make any kind of an impact and if people think they are so destined for stardom then why are they all rated as late day 2 or day 3 draft picks. Can they help, sure I would hope so if we choose to draft one or even two but if the OL doesn't open holes then they are just ordinary backs which they might be anyway.

It's actually very simple. Get a power back, the short yardage pounder type. They don't cost much. And are instrumental to super bowls. Why do you think Bellychickens kept signing Legarratte Blount? And when he wanted too much money, bye.

Latavius Murray, there's one. In 2019, signed for 3.6 mil/season. He's getting old so I don't know if he's still effective, but there's an example of what they cost.

Remember Jerry is "all in" this offseason even-though no one has a clue what Jerry is really going to do. The simple fact is we need better OL play especially in run blocking and pass blocking since Dak was sacked 39 times in 2023 and that doesn't include QB hits which was 46 knock downs (6th most) and 26 hurries.

Do we need to draft a RB? Sure we do but right now only 2 have a low second round grade and frankly both and all the rest will most likely drop a round or two by the time the draft arrives. This is not a great RB draft with scout ratings for any of them is just as a complementary back. If we draft OL in the first and possibly 2nd round then we need to address RB in free agency whether is resigning Pollard or Dowdle or both or looking at guys like Henry, Moss, Dillon, Ekeler or Singletary. Most of those are going to be plus or minus $5 million a year guys. I like the idea of Henry/Pollard combo or Henry/Bucky Irving out of Oregon combo. Then possibly sign a UDFA like Isaiah Davis South Dakota State.

Still comes down to fixing the OL and DT1/ILB, to run the ball and stop the run. That should be what all in should mean this off season.

That's fine, but we also need a big play every once in a while right???

Forget McCaffery. He's a freak

Kansas City
Isiah Pacheco---7th rd

Baltimore
Gus Edwards--undrafted
Justice Hill--4th rd

Detroit
David Montgomery--3rd rd
Jamyr Gibbs--1st rd

Buffalo
James Cook--2nd rd

Green Bay
Aaron Jones--5th Rd
The majority of starters in the NFL at RB were taken in the top 2 rounds. You're pointing out the exceptions. Last time I checked, 26 of 32 starting RB's were taken in rounds 1-3. This "you can find a RB anywhere in the draft" trash is just that, trash. You can find good players all up and down the draft so stating that is simply stating the obvious. However, if you have a need there, throwing darts at mid/late round RB's to fill a starting position is beyond foolish.

Not at RB. If you want a pounder who also makes big plays you have to pay dearly, w/ either a high draft pick or a big salary.

Knowing this franchise they'll find the next Joseph Randle talent and then in 2025 draft a RB in the first round.

Do you remember that streak of Zeke not having a 20+yard run for how long, I guess that's what haunts me, but if we can find a guy that can do it all, that's great. Or as you're saying get a big guy, but i'd want someone that can give us a big play

Yup. After ignoring the scouting reports that tell you what's wrong w/ a player, they take him anyway, he fails, and then we go high in the draft. Rinse Wash Repeat.

That's your 2nd RB, the Pollard type.

You can have the big play type or you can have the grinder type. To get both in one player costs a ton. Use your receivers and complementery back for the big plays. Use the pounder when it's 3rd and 2.
