It's amazing how people are freaking out over this. Look at several threads where it's mentioned time and time again how Dez isn't worth the trouble, how they need to cut him, how he a selfish player, ect...
Everytime I ask anyone what incidents in the past are they talking about they have no good answers. The media blows anything with Dez up. Some Cowboys fans actually have bought in and have convinced themselves that Dez is this diva WR that is a younger version on TO. They forget all the good things Dez has done. They freak out over missing a meeting yet they have no idea how many players on this team and others have missed a meeting. There are not many players that love this game as much as Dez does. He cares more about winning than any player on this team. He got hurt fighting for every last yard he could. He rushed himself back from a broken foot last year. He played 90% of last Sunday's game with a broken leg bone. It's a shame to see fans ignore the heart Dez has and just get so worked up over this.

Fans can certainly appreciate what Dez brings on the field and still be rightly concerned/bothered by his actions off of it.

More important is how his teammates view one of the longest tenured vets and supposed team leaders deciding to go AWOL for half a week because he "got scared".. while they are all there busting their butts preparing for Sunday's opponent.

You can make a blanket subjective statement like " Dez wants to win more than anyone on earth! " but things like this don't reflect that.

Here's the Mo reaction thread from 2014, if you're curious. Pretty much exactly what you would expect. The "realists" not being very realistic, calls for cutting him and calling him a baby. The fallout from him leaving camp after hearing he was benched that season was almost nothing, of course.

People really really want to fit in on these topics. They know a bashing is coming and so they pile up to bash first without really thinking through the consequences of what they're saying. The reaction here to Dez's Big Day Out is really people just knowing the board is going to explode and trying to get ahead of it. The actual upshot of this on the team is almost nothing. Missing Dez this week is a much, much bigger issue than the fine and the decision making problems, but we're too worked up to even really realize that.

Dez does not care more about winning than Tyron, Witten, Lee, etc.. That's just fantasy.

Dez complained after the season saying that the team forced him to come back too soon.

My guess is that you have more in common with Dez than most of the other posters around here and that clouds your judgement.

so he went AWOL because he wants to be out on the field and fears the bad news of testing and would rather play injured than not at all...why is this an issue again?

Because he's a professional being paid to conduct himself as one? Suppose the injury had turned out to be something that might have allowed him to play this week if the team had been able to start treatment on it right away. Would you still think this was no big deal?

Dude needs to grow up.

This cyber-world is certainly amazing and cool but I have grown tired of the snap-judgements and beat-downs that are part of the daily discourse. It's like we're living in a massive Jerry Springer episode where everyone's missteps are paraded in front of the posturing mob for ridicule and shame.

Minimum-wage employee misses three, unapproved days of work? Fired and nobody cares.

Multimillionaire employee misses three, unapproved days of work? Fans line up to defend him, because "he was scared."

Only in 'Merica and the cult of personality.

false equivalence

and nobody is defending him, just stating the truth that no matter how much you guys want to moan on your high horses, it's a non-issue. It's not bothering the team not even the locker room leader, Jason Witten.

You're delusional if you think "nobody is defending him."

Truthfully, I don't give a rat's behind that he missed those days…I'm not his boss, so it's not my problem.

But, as a Cowboys fan, it just appears that there's always something with this guy. Always.

He's just another prima donna WR and man-child.

As long as he catches TD's for the Cowboys, I'll cheer him, but I assure you that I won't shed a tear when he's no longer on this team.

Because you're replaceable. Stocking shelves and flipping burgers is not a high skill job. Sorry, welcome to reality.

Football players that play at a high level are high demand. Also, the NFL doesn't have to run their business (Which is made up of entrepreneurs anyways) like other companies. Don't like it? Stop supporting. Still don't like it? Leave your low wage job. Still don't like it? Take initiative and open your own business where you can fire someone for passing gas near a customer.

But you won't, you'll stay here *****ing about how NFL players are privileged and feeling you are owed something because you didn't end up at some spotlight career.

LOL…I own my own company, but good try.

Romo doesn't do it, Witten doesn't do it, Tyron doesn't do it, Martin doesn't do it, Jones doesn't do it, Lee doesn't do it.

Dez does it, because he's been coddled his entire life without anyone keeping him in check.

Again, he's a man-child, and right now, he's irreplaceable, but I assure you the team is tiring of his act and will be looking to take his leverage away by finding a replacement WR as soon as possible.

You can't keep making noise without repercussions, and eventually, unless he changes his ways, he will be replaced, sooner than later, and he and fans like you will have to deal with that reality.

Sure, dude. What those other players do is irrelevant, stick to discussing the situation. Dez hasn't had any real incidents since 2011, this "man-child" stuff needs to stop being thrown around.

What "noise" has he been making since 2011? He was screaming on the sideline, and when the audio was released, turns out he was trying to pump everyone up and get their heads in the game? That noise? If you have some low down on an incident we don't know about, do share.

Until then, stop making false equivalences.

This is just one more incident from Dez that fans know about. No telling how many more have been quietly swept under the carpet.

You can sit on your couch, puff your chest and tell me the team's not growing tired of him, just like I can sit here and say they are.

Time will tell my friend…time will tell.

If Dez is still here in three years, I will admit I was wrong. If he's not, will you?

So, you have nothing. Just guessing there is something we don't know about. Okay, I'll get my tinfoil hat. Seeing as how in 3 years, that'll be the end of his contract and he'll be 30, he might not be here. I would say declining play and injury history would play a bigger part in that.
