@Frozen700 , you are reacting as people are saying NOT to re-sign him. No one believes that. Dez is an important part of the offense, a highly productive and dangerous player and very young. Every indication is that we will re-sign him to the club and have made moves to do so.

The desire is that the contract does not prevent us from other significant costs in the future. While Dez is important, he is not the only factor on the offense by any stretch. The offense has been relatively productive for many seasons before Dez Bryant arrived in Dallas. Regarding Dez vs. Tyron, remember 2012 when we couldn't pass protect to save our lives? How is Dez effective if you can't get him the ball?

My gut tells me they will both be Cowboys for the next 5 years so long as they retain their health. My hope, though, is that Dez receives a contract that does not hit cap numbers that are ridiculous, because no matter his production, I don't believe he is worth 4 wins alone in any season.

Did a quick google search:

Do you think he's going to get paid as a top 5 or top 6-10 WR? I think he'll be in the top 5 range and I can see people balking at that. That's the price of being elite.

Keep in mind, AJ, Demaryius and Julio haven't been paid yet either.

Not sure. I think he deserves a lot of money. He is a scary player to defenses, he is an excellent team member, works hard, etc. Everything about him makes him a valuable player. I am less concerned about the total and more concerned about the cap hit/amounts. I would like a contract that has plenty of guaranteed money and not too much temptation to continue to restructure it and push money to the back end. Ideally, a contract that we don't touch too much that takes him to his early 30s before we talk about this again.

Wow. Fitzgerald is going to have to have a monster 2014 for them not to really assess that contract next offseason.

Like Romo's contract?

If he looks at what inferior players like Mike Wallace are getting, do you blame him? The only real consideration is who will be throwing him the football during the meat of the new contract.

Yes, like Romo's, and Carr's, and Ware's, and Ratliff's.

The key consideration with Dez is that this would be his first contract after his rookie deal and he is still very young, so at the very least paying him is a smarter move.

Yeah that list posted earlier kills me. Such an overpaid position in the league right now.

I hear you. I still believe he is what makes the offense dangerous.

To me he's in the 10 Million club, he's better thatn Percy, Wallace, Bowe, Jackson, Jenning's, Cruz and White!

I'd say it goes
Calvin
Fitz
Dez
Marshall
AJ
Julio

And really after Calvin you can mix that order around and not have much complaint from me.

"Dez wants to get paid! wants the contract he feels he deserves, doesn't seem to be obsessing over it and mentions a hometown discount for the Cowboys".

no they have some young guys who need to prove themselfs. I have no issues paying talented ball players and yes I would consider Dez a very talented ball player not some so called dime a dozen type player. Vast majority of players on the teams have 6 or less years experiance and with only 3 players with more experaince who are full time starters.
I'm with you Dooms and for those here who are concerned about Dallas not paying Dez, can stop dreaming because he's not going anywhere he will get his money and definitely disagree that he's just a dime a dozen WR no average WR can give you top 5 in yards, TDs, and catches every year.

Dez is a top 3-4 receiver in this league. It's a passing league now and no one runs but lets not pay him big bucks and let him walk. Makes sense o_O

Not really surprised nobody wants to pay the man.

Half this board is trying to figure out ways to get rid of the guy.

Personally I'm trying to lock him up long term.

I suppose you wanted to lock up Sean Lee too!!!?
Dez is continually having back issues and in yesterday's OTA got up hurting from a catch. You could
tell his back was acting up on him again. Why sink huge money into someone who could go down
with major back problems at any moment next season. We still have the right to franchise him should
we desire. I think after yesterday's fiasco, we might begin to learn that football players are
diminishing commodities and getting new ones is only a draft away.
