DMN Update: Roy Williams has sprained left wrist...*results negative*

I am not trying to jump into your conversation, but...

By all apearances, it appears to be a one time affair, how does that now jump to HAS a drug problem...
If someone got caught for drugs, I believe that it is safe to assume that it was not their first time using, just their first time being caught. And, why would anybody do something like this knowing what possible punishment could be handed down.

So you thought the same about Michael Irvin, right, or is there a double standard involved because he was a cowboy so he gets a pass....
As for Irvin, I did think that he had a drug problem. I also believed that it was dumb for him to do it so that your team had questions about his commitment. Now, not saying that it is right, but at least Irvin produced at a high level. And at that time, Goodell wasn't in charge and attempting to make a statement with players. Again, not saying it is right, but it is the true.

No there is not a double standard. If we had drafted Jones I would be willing to give him a chance. But you do not bring known drug users on your team.

He is not exceptionally young (only 1 year younger than Roy) and seems to have exhausted his "upside" after 4 years in the league.

He is another teams version of Bobby Carpenter with a drug problem past (one time incident or not)

I would also say there were years where we did not have problems with Irvin and he was producing at a very high level. His work ethic was 2nd to none on the team. In the case of Matt Jones his work ethic since entering the NFL has been questioned and even Jacksonville was not looking to give him another chance.

That's the classic definition of double standard

He's 26, not 36, We drafted Newman at the age of 25. Jones catches were comparable to T.O's last year in four less games on a team that's a running team first. He had 65 catches, 47 were first down conversions, 47, that is a bigtime stat, that moves the chains and keep the defense off the field. He has more speed, ability and upside than the also rands and unprovens on the roster now.

I'm sure more cowboy fans would if signed Vick though, or the aging slower Holt or Harrison..

You think more people wanted us to sign Vick?

As far as Holt and Harrison ..... would not want them either .... but I understand why people would, they have done something in this league.

But I will say that I would prefer Matt Jones over Vick, Holt, or Harrison.

I don't care if all he did was run fly routes, post and post corner on every play... do you know what effect that would have for the safeties and linebackers in underneath coverage. This team has one deep threat in Austin, after that there's nothing but Standback, who might not even make the team. This team needs more speed outside..

Matt Jones is not a deep threat, sorry to burst your bubble on this. He doesnt run by or away from anyone.

He is not worth wasting a spot on.

I can't think of a receiver less deserving of cult-like adoration.

Its scary isn't it. I think they are just trying to convince themselves.

It's because he's 6"6 and 26 years old and caught alot of "play from behind passes" when the coverage was soft. He's pretty garbage.

It's more like a 'fact' finding, any-excuse-to-discredit-Roy-as-the-#1-receiver, mission

I do not think he is garbage ..... like bb said he is not deserving of his following but I think he does have some nice skills.

I just do not understand switching out projects of our own for new already failed projects.

The guy did have nearly as many catches as Dallas' entire receiving corps did last season - in 12 games.

If he's 'less deserving' what does that make our group?

inexperianced and will never get that until we get them out there playing.

Can't be 'out there playing' when you're always hurt.

I agree they need to get these injuries behind them but I don't see guys improving if all you are going to do is bring in vets and bench young players. Dallas showed a commitment to Austin and I think they are going to give this group every opportunity they can. I think with RW and Crayton likely to be the #2 with Austin and Hurd getting the opportunity we will be alright at WR. Add to that Dallas will be running more 2 TE sets and hopefully running the ball more will help lead to a more balanced attack instead of becoming Air Garrett

In all honesty, I'm happy with what I have seen and heard from the team's top 4 receivers - Williams, Crayton, Austin, and Hurd. As long as those 4 remain healthy, the team should be fine.

I'm not even chanting about signing Jones at this point (shocking, I know!)
