DMN Update: Roy Williams has sprained left wrist...*results negative*

That's what his cap number would have been with Detroit last year. He wound up counting less than $3.9 million for Detroit and less than $400,000 for us last year.

Adam, are those USA Today numbers even remotely accurate? Do they incorporate the spectrum of incentives, like to be earned, unlikely to be earned, in their cap numbers?

Each number was accurate at some point, likely the start of the season. But anything that happens after that (signings, renegotiations, etc.) isn't usually included. And it looks like it includes LTBE incentives but not NLTBE incentives.

By the time USA Today posts the numbers (usually at the end of the season), they're far outdated. I suppose they might be useful for something, but I'm not sure what.

Should of gotten Vet Depth a longggggggggggggg time ago!

Well we had depth but yahhh whatever.....man I posted about this back in the summer, having just ROY as a proven WR was and IS a badddd idea........very bad. Even if he's fine this time, this will loom on us like a bad cloud, it's gonna be a very interesting year.:bang2:

:bang2::bang2::bang2:OK what are we waiting on? Roy has sprained his wrist(eventhough the results are negative), Isaiah Stanback can't stay healthy, Austin Miles stays hurt, and Sam Hurd is questionable. So instead of waiting until the season starts, or someone signs him, lets sign Matt Jones please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really doesn't take a rocket scientist. Why is it we always wait until the last minute to do anything.

Except right now, nothing is really wrong with any of our WR's...RW has a sore left wrist, Austin's healthy and had a great camp, Hurd is healthy and had a great camp, and had a great preseason game last week....and who the hell is Austin Miles?

JC people.

Do you watch football games? Have you seen how slow Matt Jones is on the field?

Yes, apparently its another instance of somebody thinking because a guy once ran a fast 40 time in shorts, that he must be uncoverable on the football field.

For people like that, LAST TIME HERE. Just because you run fast on a track, doesnt mean you will be the fastest guy on the football field in full pads. Matt Jones does not have good foot quickness. He does not make sharp cuts without losing speed. He has build up speed. Matt Jones caught 65 balls last yr, his longest play was 35 yds. His longest play in his career is 49 yds. He averaged a paltry 11.7yds per catch last yr and he has basically no run after catch skills.

I watched him since he was in college- your wrong Slate

beening 6-6 his stride is much longer than people think

people have misjudged his speed for years

and yet, he almost never makes a big play or ever runs away from anyone on the football field...

I'm so tired of these threads. Nobody knows whether or not Roy is going to live up to the hype until this season plays itself out. He could be a 1200/12 guy or he could be a 800/6 guy. You could point to his ups and downs in Detroit, but who wouldn't have them there? Let's just give the guy a chance to prove himself and save your breath.

Bring on the season, please....

What 6.6 foot player is known as quick....long speed is different than quickness. When Matt Jones had 47 of those 65 catches last year convert to first downs, that blows the argument that he doesn't run crisp routes. Jacksonville isn't a down the field offense, it's a time consuming ball control offense.

I know he was selected in the first round, too high in my opinion, but the guy has shown progression in his four years after converting from a college QB, certainly more advanced than Stanback, who is like glass, he's injured so much. Cowboys are full of number three receivers(Crayton,Hurd and Austin), they don't have a true number two, although Austin has shown glimpses, but he's shown he can't stay healthy over the last two years, just like Stanback. After Austin and Stanback, where is the field stretching speed on this offense, besides Felix Jones. This offense is void of outside quickness and speed, ala Terry Glenn.

Hurd,Crayton,Austin and Stanback, if he makes the team, one or two will miss time because of injury, all are like glass.

Always great to see some making a mountain out of a mole hill and it tends to be the same people. RW has a minor injury nothing more than that Dallas is not going to run out and start looking for other WR because of this.

And Matt Jones is the answer?

NO NO NO NO! His fate will be determined right here and now in this thread!

I don't care if all he did was run fly routes, post and post corner on every play... do you know what effect that would have for the safeties and linebackers in underneath coverage. This team has one deep threat in Austin, after that there's nothing but Standback, who might not even make the team. This team needs more speed outside..

RW can run a 4.38 I think that is enough to consider him a legit deep threat.

But you are just trading off one unreliable project with another.

Matt Jones has a drug problem .... that makes him as unreliable as someone who is injury prone.

Bingo...and therefore more unreliable IMO.

By all apearances, it appears to be a one time affair, how does that now jump to HAS a drug problem..

So you thought the same about Michael Irvin, right, or is there a double standard involved because he was a cowboy so he gets a pass....

A quick note. His ups and downs as a Lion are almost purely based upon the games he missed due to injury. That's the thing. Some continually harp on his productivity in Detroit and rarely (if ever) acknowledge how his numbers were offset by injuries.

If there is a main concern about him, that is it. As a midseason addition to the offense, his performance was atypical of his receiving abilities--not typical as some would like to promote.

He's a very good receiver, but he is not Terrell Owens. That's completely (quite literally) irrelevant. If there is an irrational fear, it should be centered on whether he's not in the game due to injury because if he is in the game, he is quite capable as a number one receiver. Perhaps some will one day refrain from comparing him to other player(s) whom he isn't and start paying attention to the player who he actually is.

Why do you think Orlando Scandrick fell to the fifth round, he had character issues, I liked that pick and thought he was steal at the time, how has that worked out, many want him now starting over Jenkins..

This team loses Williams or Felix Jones again, this offense will slow to a crawl.
