By the way, reporting that a team and player are communicating is some of the most routine insider coverage you can get. It’s such a mundane and standard thing to be in on, not hard for tenured insiders to know when a team talks to a player. Especially when “talking” could be literally nothing more than a basic preliminary exchange.

You’re going out of your way to not believe it. Fisher has been in direct contact with Wright (proven by their interview and subsequent communication), multiple media outlets have reported the contact, and there are even details about what the talks are about.

How do you see all that and still say, “nah they haven’t even spoken to eachother in any way shape or form”. It’s not one obscure vague mention of both in a sentence, it’s a simple and again routine report about interest between a team and player. Nothing more nothing less.

And with the Reed thing, I really still do not get your gripe with that. Interest and communication do not mean deals. They literally mean interest and communication, nothing more. Reed signing elsewhere isn’t an indictment on Fisher saying they’ve communicated, it’s an indictment on the FO. Why do we get mad that insiders tell us when the team is in contact with people? Do you take that info and extrapolate that into “a deal is imminent”?

I’m just having a hard time understanding how something so run of the mill in the off-season is so angering. I get that the FO doesn’t make splashes in FA but that’s their fault, not the insiders for telling you inquiries have been made. If the cowboys and kj Wright had talks and the cowboys disagreed with how many years he wanted and how much money he wanted and it didn’t go anywhere......fish can report they “talked” he can report there’s mutual interest.

doesn’t mean it’s close to happening or that there’s ongoing conversations at all. If Dallas calls team x and makes an offer for a player and that team laughs them off the line - you can report Dallas is interested in trading for said player but it doesn’t mean it’s actually close or they are an actual destination for them.

I believe there is interest but as many other things this offseason I think fish does embellish exactly how much interest and how close things are to happening and that’s his job to create clicks and interest but fish’s track record has been bad this offseason and recently

And no time is wasted because I don’t invest in signing a FA based on “communication”. I take it for face value like everyone should and just note that they’ve communicated. Nothing more nothing less, no extra time spent or wasted.

However, if I was spending every second trying to dig deeper for validity and hinging hopes on a signing I probably would be wasting my time.
