You get beat when you're not talented, you don't beat yourselves, which is what the team did causing them to not make the playoffs.
In 2011 we went 8-8.
In week 1 against the Jets, we were in total control of the game in the 4th quarter, driving to take a 2 possession lead and fumbled near the goal line, then gave up a blocked punt for a TD, then throw an interception to give NY good field position for the game winning FG attempt. That game was in the bag. Simple ball security and we easily win that game. The Jets had no offense.
In week 4, we were in total control of the game. Had a huge lead in the 2nd half and a couple pick 6's later the Lions are back in a game they shouldn't have been. Simple ball security would easily win us that game.
Arizona game in week 13, kick the GW FG and we win that game. Arizona
NY game in week 14 - connect of the wide open pass to seal the game and put the nail in the coffin of the Giants.
We didn't even try to win in week 16 against Philly because that outcome didn't matter anymore, the week 17 game against NY would determine who made playoffs and whose season ended.
That is 4 games we had easy opportunities to seal the victory and 1 throw away game. That's 5 of the 8 losses on the season. I'm sorry but that isn't lack of talent.
We had strengths and weaknesses like every other team in the league had. The reason why we were in some of those games (like the Patriots) is because the team had the talent to compete. What they needed is better decision making and better execution at key moments, but the talent was there to be a playoff team.
not sure what the first sentence means...when you are not talented, ou don't beat yourselves?...that's exactly what not talented teams do. that's the difference between talented and not talented. talented teams make plays.
and I am as frustrated as you are. but whose fault is it that we fumbled near goal line in Jets game? and gave up a punt for a TD and throw an interception. that's the players with bad execution, like the fumble. I don't fault Garrett for that unless you want to say he coached them to fumble
and then the lions...yes, the pick 6 and another turnover and yes, 4th quarter we were awful.... yes, ball security would have won. why throw when you don't have to...you win with Romo, you go down with Romo
and I don't disagree, the AZ game was bad, took some bad risks, some bad clock management. yet I still am mad that we gave up 200 yards in 4 quarters...yet gave up 65 in one drive in over time....
and I am sorry, some of those losses is on the players. interception. fumble. punt return for TD. int return for TD....you don't think that's on players? not sure what the logic is there....
