The problem is most fans look through the prism of their own emotional preconceived ideas. If you're a Garrett "hater", it's unlikely you'll see anything he does in a positive light. And, vice versa, if you're a Garrett "lover", you're unlikely to see anything he does in a negative light. The reality is he is not the best coach, but neither is he the worst. He is probably capable of leading a team to the SB given the right circumstances; I mean even Brian Billick was able to do that.
The reality also is that 2016 was an outstanding coaching job. And that's not just based on the 13-3 record, but on things like the adjustments they made in the SF game early in the year. The SF defense was confusing the heck out of Dak pre-snap and that game was about to go south big time, but the coaches responded by going hurry-up offense to prevent the defense from shift and changing pre-snap.
