That type of hit has been illegal for a long time. All the league has done recently is added points of emphasis and changed how the rule is worded.

How long, because I remember Hines Ward making blocks like this quite often?

Not diving and leading with his helmet and hitting the other guy in the helmet. He would lay people out properly though, a lot.

Real football not welcome here at CZ

Don't confuse things. It isn't real football that isn't welcome here....ummm...it's you who isn't welcome here with that trolling behavior. Not only do you appear to troll just to troll and act all super Internet tough guy, you do not even understand the game.

So please, go learn the game and then come back and participate like a regular Joe and not King Iknowitall, like you want to come across like.

Is that really asking to much from you bro?

I like the hit.

Sorry, I guess.

I liked it when Hurd hammered the hell out of Archuleta against the Bears a few years ago.

He didn't look to go directly to the head.

I would have been jacked to see Dez or Miles put a hit on someone like that.

Maybe that's just me.

I'll give you the first one. That looks very similar. The other ones don't show him blatantly leading with his helmet. The rules have also changed since then. Do you know what years they are from??

I thought he was clearly leading with his head on the the Rivers block.

No, I don't know the years that they happened. This is Rivers 5th year in the league though, so it's been within the last 5 years.

I don't think that's what anyone is arguing against. I don't mind hits like that. I just know there is a rule against it and I'm not going to pretend it doesn't exist and say it was legal.

Not the debate at all. Glad you liked it. Fans like you crack me up. You like it...hey great hit...but it's illegal...so what right?

So what if Lee had seriously been hurt on that play? Tune change?

Let me answer for you...probably not. But it should.

Safety for the players...I get it. Some here obviously don't.

Agreed, but at the same time I can surely understand how someone might be confused by the rule or simply having a hard time accepting that it is now a rule.

This is inexcusable when facts and a former vp of officiating have been there to teach.

Everyone thought Tyron's tackle last week was great, although illegal. That rule is in place for player safety too. What if the guy he was tackling would have broken a leg? Still a great play to me.

Illegal or not, I don't really care. What was an acceptable hit 2 years ago is likely now a penalty.

Look at how the horsecollar has progressed. You used to have to fold the guy up and land on his legs. Now if you touch the collar, regardless of how the play ends you're at risk for being penalized.

These hits happen regularly. Punts are notorious for blindside hits.

They aren't called all that often and I really don't care to see them called anymore. I'm not going to pretend like this is the first block that has ever gone uncalled because I can't really think of another one that has been called.

Burress pissed on Mike Jenkins last year, no flag.

The real problem with the play is that Carter was flagged for touching a QB in the process of going out of bounds

If after hearing the facts they still believe it's illegal then yes of course it is.

It's rarely, if ever, called. Can you find me enough instances to where anyone can say that it's a consistently called penalty? Don't bother looking because we know the answer is a resounding "no".

Where were you yesterday with your illegal hit crusade?

So what if the roles were reversed, does your tune change?

Let me answer that for you, hell yes it does. You wouldn't care at all and neither would anyone else on this board.

apparently I'm a comedian for saying it.

"It really pissed me off if you want to be honest," linebacker DeMarcus Ware said of the hit. "Anybody that sort of retaliates on any of the other players on defense, offense, you sort of got to take that mentality back to them. That’s part of this game. It’s a brutal game, but we didn’t do that."

Nah my tune doesn't change. I'm one for the rules and player safety be it with the team or against it as I'm sure most here would be. I honestly don't want to field a bunch of cheap shot artists and rule breakers.

Sorry to see we differ in that.
