IMO, the Cowboys have enough pieces in place now to afford the luxury of trading two #1's and a #3 for a great RB. It's a steep price, but the Cowboys have a lot of talent and, IMO, can absorb the cost without losing their edge.

For me, the question isn't whether or not the Cowboys can afford to make such a trade (I think they can afford it).

I think the question comes down to impact - Would McFadden make a truly huge impact on the offense?

That's a tough question. He'd likely split time with MB3. It's possible that Garrett would find a way to have them both on the field sometimes, but it wouldn't be often.

But if the Cowboys are convinced that McFadden is a truly special player and significantly better than Rice and the others, I'd go for it.

Again, in the age of free agency. The draft is the life blood of the NFL. You trade them away, you mortgage your future. If you want to return to being the Cowboys of the late 90s and early 2000s then start trading draft picks. Once players start leaving via free agency and you don't have any talent ready to step in and take over. You my friend, begin your downward slide back into NFL obscurity

I'd give our highest pick this year, our first next year and a third for McFadden in a heartbeat.

Oh my god, get out of here. You are ugly taint. I would start a coup if Jerry did something so foolish! :bang2:

Nah. In the hands of Jerry & Son, free agency is now mostly a helpful and friendly resource which, in fact, lessens the impact of the occasional draft bust or traded picks (see Owens, Henry, Davis, and so on).

Everybody relax.

Jerry Jones is going to listen to Jeff Ireland, who won't let him waste valuable draft picks on flashy, sentimental favorites.

If Wade Phillips instead of Parcells had been in Dallas two years ago, Cromarte would be on the team instead of Carpenter, I believe.

It will all come out in the wash.

:)

That makes me fell a whole lot better.. Skylar Green turned out great!

Not trying to pick on you, but do you still think Jerry is going to regret passing on Quinn?

Surely Romo has won you over by now.

Good post NYC! I don't agree w/ mortgaging our future to chase one, albeit great (potentially), player when we could put those picks to much better use. Those 2-3 picks that it might take to get D-Mac can be used to secure future starters @ WR, CB, or FS (true areas of need)! Look at teams like KC, SD, & Minn, they're all playing .500 ball with STUDS @ the RB position. What do they all have in common...passing game deficiencies! It takes more than a good back to win in this league, and even though Dallas has a pretty good foundation to add a stud RB to, it may not be worth what it's going to take to get him.

The Agenda will not allow that.

I agree. When the thought of Cleveland having a bad season and a possible top 5 pick chances are I would go after McFadden because his talent in my view justifies the pick plus I think having an elite RB can really boost a team to another level if you have the QB to go along with him and the fact there are no CB that are rated that high. Middle of the 1st is when I think you will see the 1st CB taken. Looking at how things are going the Cleveland pick is going to be much lower than what was hoped for

I do have some Man Love still for Quinn since he is a domer and I think he will a future Pro Bowl QB...

But Romo had me at Hello and I am onboard....

I'm with you, Doomsday! If the Cleveland pick was a top 5 as we all assumed, then it would be a no-brainer to pickup D-Mac if he was available. But since that's not the case, and we don't have any DIRE areas of need (meaning immediate help), Dallas has the luxury of drafting someone who doesn't have to have an instant impact with their first day picks.

I hear ya.

I am a University of Houston graduate and really liked Kolb. Got to see him play in person...well after I graduated though. I liked him a lot, but rest assured not anymore. He has Philly stink all over him.

True but I still think that RB is in the cards for Dallas because I don't think Jones will be resigned to a big FA contract and I don't think Jones will stay because I think he will want a bigger role than he has right now. Depending on who all enters the draft this could be a fairly deep draft at the RB position. Right now though I'm just enjoying this season and will worry about the draft when that time rolls around.

He always picks the home team.
Quit making things up.

He started that after picking against us like 3 weeks in a row and we were sitting there undefeated. He is defensive about it because he is an idiot and now everyone knows. Rather hard to come off as the "expert" when you can't even get the local team's games correct.

For the season he has the lowest percentage of all the DMN reporters at .560.

The next closest losers are at 62%.

I think a stud ILB could start ahead of Ayodele, and those usually *can* be found at the bottom of the first.

Also think that a RB (not McFadden) could be co-#1 with Barber. No one expects Julius to be back, do they?

I agree, ILB needs more speed. Posluszny would have been nice but James "Manimal" Laurinaitis would be nicer. He may fall to the 2nd first, stranger things have happened.

As for the WR & CB spots everyone is so concerned with, FA is the best answer. There have been WAAAAAY too many WR & CB "busts" in the first rounds as those postitions do not traditionally produce immediate dividends.

Not the case with RB, usually the position that allows for the best and most immediate transition to the pros. I would have preferred AD, but Run DMC is a no-brainer. He is a special talent. Head and shoulders above any CB, S or WR coming out.

Also, Dallas may have a willing trade partner in the Dolphins. They need a ton of help (i.e. more picks) on both sides of the ball and one player is not going to fix the mess they have there.

I wonder how much hide will be chapped around here if the Patriots select McFadden with their #1 pick?

Before you say "they just drafted Maroney", I would say if there was ever a team that could draft BPA it is the Patriots.
