Inside Texas reported that Alabama head coach Nick Saban will be announced as Longhorns coach

Yeah, I've heard of some names as well.

The short list I've heard are David Shaw, John Harbough, Urban Meyer and Mike Tomlin. I have to say that I like all of those names better then I do Nick Saban.

Urban Meyer would really shock me.
Ohio State is one the school with just about as much money as Texas and Meyer is an Ohio native who always dreamed of coaching there.

Your last part is the key, he is too old to leave Ohio, where he is rooted.

It is Saban or bust for Ut as far as big name coaches are concerned.

Be interesting if he does. I hope he did because I would rather Saban not come to Texas. Shaw on the other hand, he would be great IMO.

I am more of a college fan than pro but am kind of clueless about the coaches for the most part.

I really do not know what coach would be a good fit at UT. I do like Mack but they need to move on.

And I do believe he will. I didn't at first but I think it'd be best now.

Herbstreet and Shefter were already reporting on Twitter tonight that he'd signed an extention with Bama.

He isn't going to Texas.

That's not what I heard on ESPN yesterday. According to them, they thought Meyer was seriously interested in Texas. IDK.

Nick Saban is arguably the greatest college coach of his generation. (Actually there isn't really too much of an argument about it). Saying you would take any of those guys ahead of Saban really sounds like little more than sour grapes.

What an unfulfilled Friday night/weekend. First, looks like Saban is staying put and secondly, Mack is probably going nowhere. I got all worked up for nothing :(

I think Mack has worn out his welcome. They really should move on with a new coach.

if you want a NC at your school, only an idiot would pick anyone other than Saban

I think so too, but don't think they should change just for the sake of it. If they can't get who they want, might as well stick with the known commodity. Keeping Mack ain't the worst choice.

I actually do not know what to think. There are so many reports out there. He's going to do this, they are meeting, this guy will be fired.

Thru it out I have to say Mack is coming off looking like kind of a doofus. I think they need someone new. It's just time.

I'm guessing they are waiting until the season is over, to let Mack coach his last game and allow the new coach to finish his season as well. I really can't see Mack coming out of this with his job.

I've said all along that all of these threads about Saban going to Texas are making too many assumptions. Alabama is plenty wealthy enough to keep him and they actually have a richer history in college football. Plus they play in a conference that will probably get 1-2 teams in that final four every year.

The wilder question...and one everyone already seems to be assuming--is...will Mack Brown even be leaving at all this season?

As a Longhorn fan I can give two reasons why Mack will be gone after this season.

At Texas you don't have to win a National Championship every year contrary to what people think is expected, but there is really no excuse to not at least be in the top ten every year.

Count all the starting QB's in the NFL from Texas, 11 I think it is, and none of them went to UT. Then look at the quality of QB play at UT the past few seasons.

I'd like Texas to move on from Mack. Saban was obviously choice 1, but I truly think the better long term option would be Jim Harbaugh.
