Noah Spence has suspension written all over him. Reggie Ragland is a 2 down player at best and would get exposed in this new passing NFL.

Jones is an underachiever and Marinelli doesn't value the 1 technique as much as the 3 and this guy isn't going to be a 3 in the NFL.

Myles Jack isn't as good as Smith and his days are numbered.

I really think a lot of the talk about the injury was posturing to get teams to back off. Not that I would expect the Cowboys team doctor to do or say anything that would give his employer an edge.

That would be unethical.

I don't think a lot of people realize how good he was in college. Kid was unbelievable. If he ended up being half as good as he was in college we'd still be lucky

I find it comical that posters are behind this pick now, but they would have rioted if you told them that Smith would be the second round pick the day before the draft. He was not even in the conversation as the second round pick. A few posters said they would take a chance on him with a late round pick, but nobody had expectations of him playing this season. Now they are starting a countdown with the hopes that an inch a month is going to happen.

We can only hope for the best, whatever predetermined considerations your fan base has, is absolutely no factor at all concerning team business.
While I might not always agree with certain team decisions, I do, as a fan for several decades, feel a connection to this team, my team, and its uncanny how many parallels you start to come away with. As far as what you would have done and what the team actually does.
I think that's the evolution of being dedicated to anything in life for a very long period of time.

This kid woulda went top 3 if it wasn't for injury. Our doctors knew the best considering they did the surgery. If we didn't take him at that pick someone else was taking him in the second. Kid imo will be a stud and he's determined to prove it. and everyone will be satisfied.

You don't know if he would have been top 3. Guys climb and fall due to the combine. The combine is to minimize risk. You just don't know what measurables Jaylon would have put up.

I hear this more often than not from fans. It is common knowledge that teams work on every possible scenario leading up to their pick. Yes they might be a little surprised that a certain team took a certain player at a certain pick, but they have worked on every scenario of their player not being there or a player dropping to them.

For me it's not about immediate impact. You make great picks like Martin and Fredrick and Jones. You think the team is heading in the right direction. But then you hear about wanting to take Manziel and throwing away picks like for Mo.. Stick to the course. Bring in solid football players not splash players.

Jaylon Smith is far from a splash player, though I believe you mean "splash pick. The pick is a gamble that they took with some inside knowledge of his recovery chances. If he returns to health, he will be a solid player that you speak of.

I felt that way on draft day. But water under the bridge. Just hoping things fall into place and we see him on the field in the second half of the year.

I love the optimism. I hope you're right. I didn't know much about him while at ND. I saw some film of him playing and I have to admit I would need to see more to say he was worth the pick. Does anyone have any links to Youtube or something that would really show his worth? Either way, water under the bridge...but man I hope he's worth it.

Like the OP, I've been hoping to see something in the news about his progression, since a few months have now passed. Like if there were a way to measure how the regeneration has increased (its at the 4 inch point now or something), but I guess we won't be hearing anything like that, only when it starts to fire the muscle I guess.

The hypocrisy is... When Jaylon does come back and is a ProBowl caliber player.. Fans won't even mention Jerry. Certain butt hurt fans only want to beat up on Jerry... The fact is the Cowboys have the 2nd most Lombardi's in the NFL, three of them via Jerrys reign.. Of course, he'll get no credit for that. JJ has done a great many things for the NFL and will unfortunately only be recognized after he's gone. It's sad, bc Jerry would prob give up his fortune to bring a championship back to Dallas, but "so-called" fans only hate the owner of the team they root for.. Ridiculous. Folks always blame Jerry, but never give him credit.
