Extending Dak with so much money the way Dak has disappointingly played in the past three playoff game losses would simply be irrational. The fact of the matter is and like I said before, Jerry’s trade to get Lance was the first indicator that holes were being knocked into Jerry’s confidence in Dak ship. Then Dak’s poor play in the playoffs knocked a few more holes into it. Dak chose to bet on himself with that big contract and had every opportunity to get that extension for himself and failed multiple times. If the most recent one was a back and forth shootout that the team lost, something 48-42 going into the last minutes of the 4th quarter, then he likely would’ve got paid that extension, or had stronger excuses to get it. But it was 48-16 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter and GB had pulled their starters, with him playing poorly in the first half (again). Logic simply says you can’t extend him for a lot of money and a long time if past history is any indicator of future success. There’s always that tiny possibility he could turn it around in year nine, but again that’s just not rational to believe in. And despite how raw Lance is, Jerry pulling the trigger for him was a calculated move and this chance at negotiation leverage and a possibility to fill that position for the future.
