Honestly, I am surprised this is just being posted and not a 10+ page thread.
He also seems confident they will be fine if Dak isn't extended. I'm sure posters/fans are noticing how much he has changed tune about Dak. As I often notice .........sometimes it is best to pay attention to not what someone is saying but what they are not saying. There was a time when Dak walked clouds through Jerry's eyes but you do not hear that tone anymore.

I'm going on a limb a bit hear and predict if they don't reach an extension agreement BEFORE the start of free agency, things can get dicey.
Yep, this seems to be more about, we have no problems moving on type of statement.

It amazes me how many people think that Jerry doesn’t care about winning.

He does more than anything, but not enough to let someone else pull that off while he has to sit and watch.

He let Parcells take them from awful to contenders, but he will not allow anyone to take us from contenders to champions. Has to be all him or no point.

That’s the sad and frustrating part. I signed up as a kid because of Coach and his class, and I’m left with a Jones family soap opera for a football team.
He had the stadium in his plans when he hired Parcells..

Landry was a special man. He was born and raised about 30 miles from my home. I never lost in the stadium named after him. They don't make them like that anymore, he was involved in every aspect of the game.

They're doing the good cop bad cop on inepto and his agent.
They have no real intention of extending Prescott and at best he gets one more prove it or lose it year.
I've said it before and I'll say it again there is no VALID reason to extend a need to be carried QB who can pretty much only beat teams below .500 mostly at home!
NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any QB for the Cowboys that isn't a bridge type will be top 10ish in jersey sales.

The other two have nothing to with Dak. In fact, whatever the Cowboys are 1st in could be by a wider margin if they had a competent QB.
Yep.. and Micah Parsons was actually the number 1 jersey seller among the Cowboys. Romo and Witten were there. Even Dez was and Zeke, when he had a bad image for “beating women”.

That def seems to be the tone he's sending Dak and Todd France. IF you think the cap issue/sense of urgency will force us to give you a blank check .........forget it. We will move on........

Also this is pure speculation on my part........but I have to believe there is some disappointment if Dak isn't willing to work with them on an extension slightly below market value.

When you don't care about winning titles it makes sense.
5th in jersey sales (thanks a lot stans)
Team #1 in attendance
Team #1 valued franchise

That's all Jerrah cares about no matter what he says
You’re welcome!! I am wearing my Dak jamies around the house right now.

I read that as Jerry sending the message that negotiations are open, but the team is under no
pressure to get something done, and are willing to roll under the current contract if they can't come to an agreement.

He gives McCarthy much credit for Dak's success this past season, which is another message sent trying to temper expectations from the Dak camp.

He has to answer the question about Dak's longer term future the way he did. Any other answer would create a firestorm in the media. Everything else points to that not being quite so solid as he seems to be saying here.

I actually take the tiniest sliver of hope from this, that this will be Dak's last season. Wishful thinking? Maybe, but I'll take my hope wherever I can find it.
You :hammer:there is no way the Cowboys are gonna make Dak the highest paid quarterback in the league. I also don’t think France will settle for less because he wants Dak to be a free agent. This could get ugly.

That’s the kicker…

And we all know McCarthy has ONE YEAR left on his contract. This can be taken as Dak is really on a short leash. Of it could be a negotiating angle, but I do think Jerry actually believes what he says.
Also sounds as if Mike has a lot of respect in that building (whether it means anything or not) but Jerry doesn’t sound like a guy who is ready cut bait on Mike at all. I do wonder if Jimmy has given Mike a endorsement to Jerry.

Extending Dak with so much money the way Dak has disappointingly played in the past three playoff game losses would simply be irrational. The fact of the matter is and like I said before, Jerry’s trade to get Lance was the first indicator that holes were being knocked into Jerry’s confidence in Dak ship. Then Dak’s poor play in the playoffs knocked a few more holes into it. Dak chose to bet on himself with that big contract and had every opportunity to get that extension for himself and failed multiple times. If the most recent one was a back and forth shootout that the team lost, something 48-42 going into the last minutes of the 4th quarter, then he likely would’ve got paid that extension, or had stronger excuses to get it. But it was 48-16 with five minutes left in the fourth quarter and GB had pulled their starters, with him playing poorly in the first half (again). Logic simply says you can’t extend him for a lot of money and a long time if past history is any indicator of future success. There’s always that tiny possibility he could turn it around in year nine, but again that’s just not rational to believe in. And despite how raw Lance is, Jerry pulling the trigger for him was a calculated move and this chance at negotiation leverage and a possibility to fill that position for the future.

Do you really think someone who is worth $12B+ cares about being #1 in attendance and valued franchise? There are no prizes or trophies for that.

Jerry and his family have more money than they ever could spend for generations.

So give Dak his $59 million this season, take the hit now. Or give him an extension for $60 million, though the cap hit would be lower this year. However then you are in the same situation 3 years from now.

I rather they take the hit now, then see what happens.
Stop misrepresenting the truth, please!
Dak does not get 59 million that's the cap hit.
He gets 34 million total which is a 5 million bonus in March and 29 million for the season.

Still a $59 million cap hit no matter how he gets it paid.

If Jerry decides to let it ride this year w/ no extension, Dak's mere 34 million total (Dak's opinion) payout for the season could be a reason to seek a trade.
I would think that France is whispering $ signs into Dak's ear and would rather get him his payday at this present time.
Next year adds age and wear to that future contracts consideration.

correct expression:
"Hit while the iron is hot"

If it falls this way, Jerry could get some draft capital to work with.
