Agreed. If they pass on a guy who turns out to be a "franchise" guy then it would not be good.

But right now it looks like one guy– and not three.

One of the three will be gone by pick #4.

One of the others is falling like a rock.

So it will come down to one guy and does he look like he's "It"?

We'll see.

Honestly, if both Goff and Wentz are seen as franchise players, they won't be available at 4. The Cowboys will have to move up to get them.

For all of the conspiracy theorists... Jerry has been at this for more than 25 years and is always blabbing to the media, so can someone give me a rundown of all of the mind games, smokescreens and blatant lies he has executed in order to throw off other teams draft strategy? 'Cause I sure don't remember any...
I don't even think it qualifies as conspiracy theory. Some people actually believe Jerry Jones is capable of manipulation. He is a salesman capable of praying on fans, but the next time he pulls off a plan with his peers in the league will be the first time since Herschel Walker.

Goff was the top QB... correct, but he has not been a consensus #1 overall guy. Nor has he been looked at with the same reverence as Aikman, either of the Mannings, Rivers... and several other top-5 picks (some of which panned out and some of which didn't).

That's good, because we're not picking at #1 overall either.

Production... can't go by that... not gross numbers. Aikman was in a different era.

Do you realize the irony of what you just typed? "Production...can't go by that"

Should we instead go by how he looks in the shower? Or a "gifted passer" who is a "thing of beauty throwing the football"?

Right now Ourlads has Goff the 10th rated guy of the draft. Good prospect? Yeah. A consensus franchise guy? No.

Since you have access to Ourlad's list, how many of the positions listed above Goff as the "10th rated guy" cannot be had via free agency? How many of positions 1 thru 9 can't be had elsewhere?

He doesn't even get credit for the Herschel deal. We know who the architect of that deal was and we know who the guy going along for the ride, learning his way was too.

I was trying to indulge the lunatic fringe that believes the rhetoric about that trade.

Look doesn't matter this year or next whether we draft a new QB. If Romo goes down at any time, the season is hosed and we
know that. Jerry has said several times that no matter what, Romo is his QB for the next 3-5 years so why spend a 1st round pick
on someone who's gonna ride the pine. I think they will bring in a backup experienced QB to stand in for Romo should he
get crunched on the field. From the news, it looks like the Cowboys are courting McCoy.

Are you trying to make me feel better? lol We've already tried that. McCoy isn't any better than Cassel even though he can beat us.

You can't go by production.

It would be like comparing Aikman to Roger Staubach and coming to the conclusion Staubach was a piker because he didn't have the production Aikman did.

It doesn't matter to me if those players above Goff can be replaced via free agency.

What does matter to me is if the over-riding opinion is that Goff is a franchise-QB... if he is then you draft him. If not then you don't.

Simple.

"Those same NFL scouts that really like Wentz and Goff all agree that Ramsey and Jack are two of the draft's best players. Be sure to give them a call and discredit them for such analysis. "

Your quote. If the same scouts you're using to justify your defensive players are ranking the quarterbacks high as well, that's not justification of your position, at best it's a wash. If you think otherwise, it absolutely is a double-standard.

Did you not read the context and conversation it was placed in? When someone rides high on QBs in this draft but claims Ramsey isn't a playmaker at his position and shouldn't be considered with the pick but will discredit the NFL scouting department on their talent evaluations... That is a double standard.

When the same individual wants to use NFL scouts and execs as a supporting argument for drafting a QB but neglects th fact that the same NFL execs and scouts saying Ramsey/Jack could very well be the best overall players.... That is a double standard.

I like all 4 of those players, but I think in a day where defenses are getting spread out we need speed at D. Ramsey and Jack would be very valuable against teams like New England, Carolina, Arizona and Green Bay who will spread you out.

Ramsey and Jack could easily make life harder on a scrambling Cam, or Edelman/Gronk in the slot. Scandrick is our only reliable player with speed. This must change if we want to sniff success in the playoffs.

Lunatic fringe...a mom and pop who have 12 kids and relegates the oldest boy and girl to being the de facto mom and pop...when they are kids. Talk about coo coo land.

Discuss the why's not whether it is valid or not, based upon setting oneself up as king or queen of the area.

In orther words, on concepts and values, there has to be some love shared with other fans. A loving home is always superior to a gustapo informational zone.

Hey, someone might believe in the concept of trading down and expanding the level of selection going into supporting roles. Even if the exact cost isn't yet known...and if any one thinks they have a handle on the money soon to be paid out for free agents, I'll contently listen. They don't, but those things affect how things are selected following the free agency.

First off, BPA is a selective process...just like family planning.

But that is dependent somewhat upon team's needs. But the purpose of a top of draft pick, is brutally obvious...blue chippers. That trumps positional need.

I very sorry that I made you feel bad. Jerry is the boss that makes things happen not me.
I am just the humble purveyor of opinion and I might agree but, you know the Cowboys
organization and coaches want experienced players playing especially QB. Maybe McCoy
or Moore will surprise us this year but, I'm still saying if Romo goes down for any length of time
the season is over...!

I was pretty much of the belief that Dallas would skip on a QB with their 4th and now Jerry has come out and said it. So if Tunsil and Wentz will go 1-2 and Dallas can't trade back, that would leave one of the following guys available:

DeForest Buckner, DE
Joey Bosa, DE
Jalen Ramsey, CB/S
Myles Jack, LB
Ezekiel Elliot, RB

Who are you picking?

What did Stephen say? I'll take his word more so than Jerry's.
