He’s a lottery ticket. He’s an athlete who can throw the football a mile, with touch. He has an incredible arm.

Problem is, according to 49ers fans I’ve talked to, he couldn’t grasp Shannahan’s playbook.

Kyle’s playbook is super QB friendly. Lance not getting it after a couple years just doesn’t sound good to me.
so did Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, and Ryan Leaf. and he doesn't have a touch. he completed about 50% of his throws...yuck. he has thrown all of 318 passes in college. even in college he was very average. in a small school.

and if he can't grasp and NFL playbook, or read a defense, then he is toast.

When they cut Dak in March 2024, he will be the defacto starter.

Or Dallas can pay $60 million for Dak, who isnt even a Pro Bowl QB.
well, Dak was a probowler in 2022. but he passed on it.

so $60M for an NFL top 10 QB
or $25M for a bust. (that's how much lance will cost if we pick up his 5th year option)

hmmm,

Too early? He only played 10 games in HS.

Started 1 season in college. Has basically not played in 4 years.

He started 1 year. Sat the next due to Covid and entered the draft. Was drafted way to high based on being a great athlete.

He has played 8 games in the last 4 years since his last college start, with an average QBR of 38.0

Please explain what progress you are referring to?
the progress when he adjusted the settings in Madded NFL to make Lance a top notch QB. come on now. get with it.

Is Dak really a "Top 10" QB?

I think he's more of a Top 11-20 QB.

There's no shame in that.

He's never been All Pro and the Pro Bowl awards have been few and far between.

He just needs to win play off games. And big games in the regular season.

Something he hasnt been able to do.

That's why Jerry traded for Lance.

Why spend mega millions on Dak in 2024 when we have the kid?

He should have stayed another year in College.
says you he was informed he would go into first round so he took his shot, 9ers saw something gave up a king's ransom for him and hes already set moneywise. not everyone is set in life to stay another year when that opportunity comes knocking, you go.. now things have changed with the NCAA NIL giving out money to players now.. they can afford to stay another year kif they feel its best..but when lance came out that wasn't true.

Jerry didn't trade for Lance because of what you described. low risk approach and being forward thinking. its a long shot on a player that some thought was a top 10 talent.

so who are the QBs that are top 10?
Mahomes
Burrows
Allen
Purdy
Lawrence

hmmm, that's where it stops. I wouldn't say Hurts. although the team went to superbowl, it was more because of everybody else on the team. top 3 defnse. top OL in the league. top rushing attack. top 3 WR, top 5 TE....pretty nice surronding. some of that goes away and he is struggling a bit.
Jackson? I just do not like RBs playing QB.

so how is he not a top 10?

Let’s admit, in deference to the NFL, Trey Lance is as useful as breasts on a fish. Let’s “take a look” at someone who at least has been playing quarterback, at some level, before considering a known failure to take the reins of the Cowboys.

He broke his leg and his hand.

We are lucky. It worked out for Dallas.

I've tried to rationalize it, even in this thread, but I've run it though about 20 times but I still do not really understand this trade. Rush is 5-1 as a starter. Every time we get a new backup QB he is the last man standing.

I'd rank Dak after Cousins. Not even close.

I don't think you should rank an older QB with only 2 Pro Bowls in the top 10 of anything.

Its easy man.

Young Phenom QB replaces older expensive QB who can't win.

Its a common thread in the NFL.

Nothing wrong with his ability to play QB.

I am not talking about the Niners mistake of drafting him. I am talking about his development. A lot of QB's set and learn, but they have the experience of starting for 3 years in college.

Being drafted early, brings an expectation of starting and playing well early. Lance never had a chance.

Well...he beat out JimmyG.

But he broke his hand and his ankle.

Be glad that the 49er's are in love with Purdy.

We got a great deal for the kid.

Well at this point Trey Lance is a top 90 QB at best with little to no experience.

insert him into the 2016 Dak Prescott offense it was built on simplicity and effectiveness for mobile QBs. It limited reads, improved vision and separation. Then develop him slowly and keep expanding. I think the guy would be deadly.
It doesn’t get much simpler than a 49ers offense….

Throw him out there too early? This his 3rd season. He won’t be playing anyway this season, he’s not the backup. The only way he’ll have any chance of developing is by playing. The longer he’s on the sidelines, the less likely he’ll become a solid NFL QB. If he doesn’t get on the field until 2025 he’ll be stale. The Cowboys may look to trade him by then, because he’s not going to be happy as a backup. He wants another opportunity to be a starter and that won’t likely happen with the Cowboys.
No joke....this organization is simply beyond repair, short of two (2) people with the same last name leaving the earth.
