Let's all just get it off our chest; Carp was a bad draftpick

Not really. The amount of picks we'd have to have given up to make it happen wouldn't have been worth it, IMO.

It would have depended on the slot but to get Ferguson for example, you would have swapped this years firsts, given up next years first and third, and then given up this years fourth.

Green, and Carpenter, and who knows what next year, for one of the best OL players to come out in a while. There were several LBs available in FA this season and you would have made an instant upgrade to your line for years to come. I am not sold on the guys brought in to be that much of an improvement over last years group at that spot.

I know this will go on and on and on and it seems, as always, people are either trying to thump chests or have an agenda. As said before we are building for the future and Carp, like it or not is part of that future. If there's on thing I DO trust in Bill its LB'ers. Its not fair to compare Ware and the excitement surrounding him to Carp, its like comparing a sports car to a pickup. Ware was/is touted ad the next LT where Carp is a projected as a bluecollar kinda guy, no flash no flare just gets the job done, just like he did in college. He's another bit player, a piece in the 3-4 puzzle. To have a 12st round pick sitting back and learing rather then out there starting SHOULD tell you a lot about our depth at LB. Pat watkins is a prime example of our LACK of depth at FS. See the difference????????/

Not every player can be a high profile guy. There are only so many LT's and beside each one is a Harry Carson or Pepper Johnson.

The season hasnt even started and people are already busting this kids balls. We all know you REALLY cant evaluate a draft until its 3rd year not 3rd month, get over it. Can we get over the skies falling threads, they're really staring to get old. If you think your such an expert judge of talent go apply for a GM position and show us all

Yeah, I was watching the draft and got hit by the double whammy of my guy getting snapped up by Green Bay a couple spots before us along with the tradedown for a TE in the same round. Considering I didn't know about the 2 TE rationale at the time, let's just say it took a few minutes before my wife could talk me down from that.

Well you just lost some points in my book.

Your wife, unless she is a big football fan, should have been out shopping or doing something else during the draft. :p: ;)

Robert Gallery was the sure fire thing a few years ago. Wouldn't the team who did what you suggested feel like a rented who-ah after pulling that trigger? The price is too high for a LT crapshoot. Too much depth and quality players would have to be given up. That's gonna be real important to our team. Plus, our developmental tackle projects are coming along nicely.

Ngata I would have been all for. Ferguson was too much.

My wife takes her little sister shopping and spends time with her parents on draft weekend.

She has learned.

I think she learned during the QC/Dixon draft :laugh2:

I'm not calling him a bust so calm down.
And don't give me this transition stuff.

Don't we have a few guys dressing and even starting from our 2nd round draftpick on?

Our 1st rounder looks like he may not even dress for some games early on.
And I didn't see ANYTHING from him in the preseason.

Let's face it, it seems like a bad pick.

THe only thing more ignorant than saying someone is a bad pick just because he isn't starting week 1 is assuming that everyone else shares your opinion but just doesn't have the courage to speak out about it... Players we drafted later than the 2nd are starting because they play positions that had huge holes (TE, FS).

I wasnt as high on Gallery as I was Ferguson, but thats just my opinion.

Ngata would have cost significantly less. Swap picks and next year 2nd. Something like that.

Ngata I would have loved. Honestly, I would have loved Wimbley, because I thought he was the best of the Lawson / Carpenter worlds, and would be a great compliment to Ware. Just a few spots too late for that, though. Our draft was still a good haul.

A few years back we took a player in the first. He got moved around a little. It looked like we didn't quite get our monies worth. He finally settled in on a great team and became one of the greatest Cowboys ever.

It's just too premature to judge someone from this year's draft.

Does anyone else think it's funny that there are only two threads on the front page with star ratings - and they were started by the same person?

:)

I think only 6 of the 1st round picks are starting this week. so all other teams must suck in their draft picks as well.

Barring Injury I doubt Carp starts all year, which isn't a neccesarily a bad thing, but should be considered when some of you guys point out how many rookies are starting now.

I personally wanted Marcus McNeill and Greg Jennings.

Right now, looks like both are starting for their teams.

The best part is that we don't HAVE TO have Carpenter start because we have a solid group of guys in front of him. Having rookies start is not always a sign that they are great, or having guys not start is not always a sign they suck. Coaches start or do not start guys for many reasons. I believe that BP is using him exactly the way he intended.
